READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS VACUUM CLEANER

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

To reduce the risk of electric shock, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any way.

Motor: Do Not Oil the motor or the brush roll at any time. The bearings are permanently lubricated and sealed.

How to Identify Parts of Vacuum Cleaner

Diagram Description: The vacuum cleaner is shown from the front and side. Key parts are labeled:

Maintenance Information

Make sure the vacuum cleaner is turned off and the power cord is unplugged before performing any maintenance. Moving parts require caution.

Replacing the Disposable Dust Bag (Style RR)

Replace the dust bag when debris reaches the fill line.

  1. Lift the latch to remove the front cover.
  2. Hold the lever to the left and pull down the cardboard collar to remove the old bag.
  3. Place the collar of the new bag on the back ledge and push up to secure it at the sides.
  4. Tuck the bag in at the bottom and along the sides, then replace the front cover.

The cover will not close if the dust bag is not in the proper position.

Cleaning or Replacing the Motor Filter (Every 3 Months or with Dust Bag Replacement)

  1. Lift the handle to remove the filter retainer.
  2. Lift the filter up from its pegs.
  3. Shake or brush dust off the filter.
  4. Press the cleaned or replacement filter onto the pegs, push on the filter retainer, and replace the front cover.

Never operate the vacuum without the motor filter in place.

Replacing the HEPA Filter (Style HF2 - Every 6 Months)

  1. Squeeze the door latch to open the HEPA filter compartment.
  2. Remove the old HEPA filter.
  3. Place the new filter with its rubber seal against the back of the compartment.
  4. Replace the door and push the latch until it snaps into place.

Brush Roll – Clean

Periodically remove hair and threads from the brush roll. Do not remove end caps.

Belt Style R – Replace a Worn or Broken Belt

Check the belt regularly and replace it if it appears worn or broken.

How to Maintain Your Vacuum Cleaner

Routine maintenance helps avoid unnecessary service calls. Check the bag, belt, and brush roll often.

Brush Roll Maintenance: Do not remove end caps. Remove hair and threads from the brush roll periodically.

Belt Check: Replace the belt if worn or broken. The motor shaft can become hot with normal use; avoid touching it when checking the brush roll or belt.

How to Replace Brush Roll or Belt

Steps:

  1. Move the brush roll control to the 'bare floor' setting and press firmly until it locks. [See Figure 1]
  2. Use the handle release to lower the handle flat onto the floor. [See Figure 2]
  3. Turn the vacuum over. Remove 3 screws and lift off the base plate. [See Figure 3]
  4. Remove the brush roll and belt.
  5. Place the new belt around the motor shaft and brush roll. Insert the left end of the brush roll first. [See Figure 4]
  6. Insert the right end of the brush roll, ensuring the end cap fits into the base. The new belt may appear loose; this is normal. [See Figure 5]
  7. Rotate the brush roll two turns to center the belt.
  8. Insert the four tabs on the base plate into the slots on the base. Rotate the base plate down onto the vacuum and replace the 3 screws. [See Figure 6]

How to Change Light Bulb (on some models)

Make sure the vacuum is turned off and the power cord is unplugged.

  1. Lower the handle to the floor and remove the HEPA filter. [See Figure 7]
  2. Unscrew the lens and remove the old bulb. Replace with a bulb rated 12V, 10W, Type 904.
  3. Push in the new bulb, replace the lens cover, and replace the screw. [See Figure 8]

  4. Loosen the hose end from the back of the vacuum.
  5. Place the tool on the end of the wand or hose.

Nested Extension Wand

Use to extend the reach of the hose.

  1. Grasp both wands near the ridges and pull apart.

  3. Place the wand on the end of the hose.

Crevice Tool

Dusting Brush

Use for furniture, blinds, bookshelves, lampshades, and vents.

Upholstery Nozzle

Use for draperies, cushions, and fabrics.

  2. Attach the Power Paw to the end of the wand or hose.

Make sure you turn off the vacuum before removing debris from the Power Paw.

Thermal Cut-Off and Problem Solving

Thermal Cut-Off

This vacuum cleaner has a special thermostat that protects the vacuum in case of motor overheating. If the vacuum suddenly shuts off, push the power switch to off (O) and unplug the vacuum. Check the vacuum for a possible source of overheating such as a full dust bag, blocked hose, clogged tubes, or clogged filter. If these conditions are found, fix them and wait at least 30 minutes before attempting to use the vacuum. After the 30-minute period, plug the vacuum back in and turn on the switch. If the vacuum still does not work, take it to a Eureka authorized service center for repair or call 1-800-282-2886.

How to Clear a Blockage

[info] Make sure vacuum is turned off and power cord is unplugged.

If vacuum has no suction, refer to problem solving, page 6. Low suction or poor pickup may also be due to a blockage in the vacuum cleaner.

Hose Blockage

  1. Remove hose end. Flex the hose to loosen any blockage. If little or no suction, check dust bag and filters.

Remove and Check Tubes

  1. Use a coin to turn the twist lock to 'unlock'. [See Figure 1]

  6. Twist to separate the tube from the hose. [See Figure 4]
  7. Check for blockage in both tubes and hoses. Flex the hose to loosen any blockage.
  8. Clean tubes with mild detergent. Do not put in dishwasher. Dry thoroughly.

Reassemble Tubes

  1. Re-attach both tubes to hoses. [See Figure 4]
  2. With the tube latch open, insert the large tube into the large hole. Push firmly to insert the tube all the way. [See Figure 6]

  6. Close the tube latch. [See Figure 2]
