The Milwaukee M12 FDGA is a cordless angled die grinder designed for heavy-duty applications. It offers variable speed control for precision work and is part of the M12 FUEL™ system.
Device Description

Kickback and Related Warnings
Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating accessory. To avoid kickback:
- Maintain a firm grip and position your body to resist forces.
- Use auxiliary handles if provided.
- Use special care on corners and sharp edges; avoid bouncing and snagging.
- Do not use toothed saw blades.
- Feed the bit into the material in the direction of chip exit.
- When using rotary files, cut-off wheels, or carbide cutters, clamp the workpiece securely.
- If a wheel binds, switch off the tool and wait for it to stop before removing.
- Support oversized workpieces.
- Use caution in blind areas to avoid cutting pipes or wiring.
Safety Warnings Specific for Sanding Operations
- Do not use excessively oversized sanding disc paper.
Safety Warnings Specific for Wire Brushing Operations
- Be aware that wire bristles can be thrown. Do not overstress wires.
- Allow brushes to run at operating speed for at least one minute before use.
- Direct the discharge of the spinning wire brush away from you.
Additional Safety and Working Instructions
- Grinding metal produces sparks; ensure no persons are endangered and keep combustible materials away.
- Avoid flying sparks and sanding dust.
- Use properly fitting and undamaged open-end spanners.
- Ensure insertion tools run concentrically; replace if out-of-round.
- Never reach into the danger area while the machine is running.
- Do not remove chips or splinters while the machine is running.
- Immediately switch off the machine if significant vibrations or malfunctions occur.
- Ensure the insertion tool comes to a complete stop before laying it down.
Operating Instructions
Collet Insertion
The tool accepts 6 mm and 8 mm collets. Ensure the insertion tool is clamped at least 10 mm into the collet.
Step 1: Ensure the collet nut is loosened. Insert the accessory into the collet. Tighten the collet nut securely using the provided wrenches (15 and 17).
Step 2: For 6 mm accessories, use the 6 mm collet. For 8 mm accessories, use the 8 mm collet. Ensure correct collet size is used.
Step 3: Verify the accessory is securely tightened and the length of insertion (L1) is at least 10 mm.
Battery Insertion and Removal
To Insert Battery: Align the battery pack with the tool's battery compartment and slide it in until it clicks securely [click].
To Remove Battery: Press the release button on the battery pack and pull the battery out.
Speed and Mode Selection
The M12 FDGA features four speed modes:
- Mode 1: 0-10,000 rpm
- Mode 2: 0-15,000 rpm
- Mode 3: 0-20,000 rpm
- Mode 4: 0-24,500 rpm
Use the mode selector (2) to choose the desired speed. The selected mode is indicated on the tool's dial.
Starting and Stopping the Tool
To Start: Ensure the switch lock-off (6) [unlock] is disengaged. Press the paddle switch (7).
To Stop: Release the paddle switch (7).
Battery Fuel Gauge
The fuel gauge (3) indicates the remaining battery charge with four lights:
- 100% / 75% / 50% / 25%: Indicates charge level.
- <10%: Battery is critically low and needs charging.
- Flashing Lights (alternating pattern): Indicates the battery is too hot. Allow it to cool down.
Load-Dependent Motor Protection
If the motor is overloaded, the overload protection will trip. To continue working, switch the machine off and then on again. If the battery becomes too hot, the fuel gauge lights will flash in an alternating pattern, and the tool will not run. Allow the battery to cool down.
