Product Overview

Congratulations on choosing the DigiTech® Eric Clapton Crossroads™ Artist Series Pedal.

DigiTech develops products to provide guitarists with the best-sounding, most creative tools. Our Production Modeling™ technology reproduces the studio and live sounds and effects of artists, modeling speaker cabinets, microphones, pre/post effects, and the recording engineer's techniques.

The Crossroads Artist Series Pedal was conceived with Eric Clapton and his guitar tech Lee Dickson. It models seven Clapton signature tones, spanning 30 years of his music, from "Badge" with its rotary speaker modulation to "Layla" (Unplugged) with its acoustic tone, and "Sunshine of Your Love" featuring his signature "woman tone".

Controls and Features

Knob Function Descriptions

MODEL 1: "Sunshine of Your Love"

Album: Cream – Disraeli Gears (1967)

This models Eric's "woman tone" achieved by running amplifiers hot, rolling back the tone control on his SG, and using a wah-wah pedal in a fixed position for midrange/treble boost.

MODEL 2: "Crossroads"

Album: Cream – Wheels of Fire, Live at the Fillmore (1968)

This models the electrified delta blues form of Robert Johnson's "Crossroads", as performed by Cream. Features Eric's famous soloing work.

MODEL 3: "Badge"

Album: Cream – Goodbye (1969)

This models the swirling guitar effect achieved using a rotary organ speaker cabinet. Connect both OUT 1 (AMP) and OUT 2 (MIXER) to two different amps or mixer channels panned hard left and hard right for the best stereo modulation effect.

MODEL 4: "Layla"

Album: Derek and the Dominoes – Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (1970)

This models Eric's iconic "Layla" tone, played on his Fender® Stratocaster® ("Brownie") through a tweed Fender® Champ™ amplifier.

MODEL 5: "Lay Down Sally"

Album: Eric Clapton – Slowhand (1977)

This models the country-style shuffle featuring Eric and George Terry in a guitar duet.

MODEL 6: "Layla" (Acoustic)

Album: Eric Clapton – Unplugged [LIVE] (1992)

This transforms your electric guitar signal into Eric's vintage acoustic tone heard on his MTV™ Unplugged performance, modeled from his 000-42 guitar. Connect both OUT 1 (AMP) and OUT 2 (MIXER) to two different amps or mixer channels panned hard left and hard right for stereo imaging.

MODEL 7: "Reptile"

Album: Eric Clapton – Reptile (2001)

This models the tone from Eric's title track "Reptile", featuring a Gibson® L-5 jazz guitar through a custom Cornell tweed combo, with added chorus and reverb.

Set Up Directions

  1. Turn the volume down on the amplifier/mixer you are connecting to.
  2. Connect the pedal output (OUT 1 or OUT 2) to the amplifier/mixer input.
  3. Connect your guitar to the pedal's INPUT jack.
  4. Connect the power supply to the pedal's AC Adapter Jack.
  5. Set the Crossroads™ pedal's LEVEL control to the minimum position.
  6. Turn up your amplifier/mixer level to your desired listening level.
  7. Turn on the pedal by pressing the pedal switch and gradually turn up the Crossroads' LEVEL control to the desired listening level.

Connections

The Crossroads™ pedal features a single INPUT and a pair of outputs: OUT 1 (AMP) and OUT 2 (MIXER). These outputs offer flexibility for various setups:

The OUT 2 (MIXER) output is specifically designed to faithfully reproduce Eric's studio guitar amplifier tones without requiring a separate amplifier.

Battery Replacement

  2. Remove the old battery from the compartment and disconnect its cable.
  3. Connect a new battery to the cable and place it back in the compartment. Ensure the battery cable does not interfere with the pedal's mechanism.
  4. Align one hole of the pedal over its corresponding pin.
  5. Push the opposite pin in and lower the other side of the pedal into place over the depressed pin. Release the pin. Both release pins should be flush with the outer side of the pedal when properly fastened.
