Set up your device

How to insert Micro-SIM card and connect the battery

  1. Unscrew 6 screws counterclockwise located on the bottom of the device.
  2. Remove the cover.
  3. Insert Micro-SIM card with PIN request disabled, ensuring the cut-off corner points forward to the slot.
  4. Connect the battery to the device.
  5. After configuration, re-attach the device cover and screw it back on.
  6. The device is ready for mounting.

PC Connection (Windows)

To connect the FMB204 to a computer:

  1. Power up the FMB204 using a 6-30V DC power supply via the power cable. Observe LED indications for status.
  2. Connect the device to your computer using either a Micro-USB cable or Bluetooth:
    • Micro-USB Cable: You will need to install USB drivers (refer to 'How to install USB drivers (Windows)').
    • Bluetooth: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your PC. Select 'Add Bluetooth or other device' > 'Bluetooth'. Choose your device named 'FMBxxx_last_7_imei_digits' (without LE). Enter the default password '5555', press 'Connect', and then select 'Done'.
  3. The device is now ready for use on your computer.

How to install USB drivers (Windows)

  1. Download COM port drivers from the provided link.
  2. Extract and run 'TeltonikaCOMDriver.exe'.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts, clicking 'Next' and then 'Install'.
  4. Click 'Finish' to complete the driver setup.

Configuration (Windows)

The FMB204 comes with default factory settings. These can be customized using the Teltonika Configurator software. Ensure you have the correct version of the MS .NET Framework installed (version 4.6.2 or later is recommended for Windows Vista, 7, 8.1, and 10).

Table 2 MS .NET requirements

Operating systemMS .NET Framework versionVersionLinks
Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10MS .NET Framework 4.6.232 and 64 bitwww.microsoft.com

After downloading and extracting the Configurator, launch 'Configurator.exe'. The software language can be changed within the application.

The configuration process begins upon connecting the device. After connection, the 'Status' window will be displayed. This window provides information on GNSS, GSM, I/O, and Maintenance. The FMB204 allows for one user-editable profile.

Key buttons in the Configurator include:

  • Load from device: Loads configuration from the device.
  • Save to device: Saves configuration to the device.
  • Load from file: Loads configuration from a file.
  • Save to file: Saves configuration to a file.
  • Update firmware: Updates the device's firmware.
  • Read records: Reads data records from the device.
  • Reboot device: Restarts the device.
  • Reset configuration: Resets device configuration to default settings.

The GPRS section is crucial for server and GPRS settings, while Data Acquisition configures data gathering parameters. For more details, consult the Teltonika Wiki.

Quick SMS configuration

The FMB204 can be quickly set up using SMS commands. The default configuration provides optimal parameters for tracking quality and data usage. Send the following SMS command:

setparam 2001:APN;2002:APN_username;2003:APN_password;2004:Domain;2005:Port;2006;0

Note: Insert two space symbols before the SMS text.

GPRS settings:

  • 2001 – APN
  • 2002 – APN username (leave empty if none)
  • 2003 – APN password (leave empty if none)

Server settings:

  • 2004 – Domain
  • 2005 – Port
  • 2006 – Data sending protocol (0 – TCP, 1 – UDP)

Default configuration settings:

  • Movement and ignition detection: Vehicle movement is detected by accelerometer. Ignition is detected by vehicle power voltage between 13.2V and 30V.
  • Record triggers (On Moving): Device records when: 300 seconds pass, vehicle turns 10 degrees, or vehicle drives 100 meters.
  • Record triggers (On Stop): Device records if 1 hour passes while the vehicle is stationary and ignition is off.
  • Records sending to server: Records are sent to the server every 120 seconds. Also, records are sent if the speed difference between the last and current position is greater than 10 km/h.

After successful SMS configuration, the FMB204 will synchronize time and update records to the configured server. Time intervals and I/O elements can be adjusted via the Teltonika Configurator or SMS parameters.

Mounting recommendations

Connecting wires:

  • Fasten wires to stable, non-moving parts, away from heat-emitting or moving objects.
  • Ensure no wires are exposed; re-apply isolation material if factory isolation was removed.
  • If wires are exposed to exterior elements (heat, humidity, dirt), apply additional isolation and secure them to prevent looseness.
  • Do not connect wires to board computers or control units.

Connecting power source:

  • Verify that power remains available on power wires even after the car computer enters sleep mode (typically 5-30 minutes).
  • Measure voltage after connecting the module to ensure it has not decreased.
  • Connect to the main power cable in the fuse box.
  • Use a 3 A, 125 V external fuse.

Connecting ignition wire:

  • Ensure it is a true ignition wire that provides power even after the engine starts.
  • Avoid ACC wires (which only have power when the key is in the first position).
  • Check that power is still available when vehicle devices are turned off.
  • Connect to the ignition relay output or any other relay that powers on with the ignition.

Connecting ground wire:

  • Connect the ground wire to the vehicle frame or metal parts fixed to the frame.
  • If using a bolt, ensure the loop is connected to the end of the wire.
  • For optimal contact, scrub paint from the connection spot.

PAY ATTENTION! Power supply connection must be made at a low impedance point of the vehicle's network. Connecting GND to an arbitrary point on the car's mass is unacceptable, as it can lead to unpredictable potentials and unstable FMB204 operation.
