3. The Library

The library displays e-book files in a sorted view. Grouping and searching by authors, genre, and series are supported for formats like fb2, epub, mobi, and pdf. For other files, the file name serves as the title, and the document type is shown as the series and author (e.g., txt, doc). This feature eliminates the need to manually sort books into folders.

3.1. The "Now reading" section

This section appears when a book is opened for the first time. It shows the cover of the last opened book. Additional information displayed on the right includes:

  • The current page number and total pages in the book.
  • Reading progress scale.
  • Date and time of the last opening.
  • Book title (or file name if metadata is missing).
  • Author name(s) (if available in metadata).

An indicator at the top right shows the currently read book and the three previous ones. Swipe from right to left on the "Now reading" field to access previously read books.

4. Work with Books and Files

4.1. Getting started with the library

Upon first opening the library, scan the internal memory to extract metadata, add books to the catalogue, and sort them. Press the "SCAN LIBRARY" button to initiate this. Rescan manually after adding or deleting books to refresh the library.

4.2. Sorting and filtering

Books are grouped by authors, series, and titles, with item counts displayed for each group. Within groups, items are sorted alphabetically (series books by number). The number of books is indicated for authors and series. Items starting with digits or lacking names appear at the end of the list.

Filters can be applied on the main library page by language, genre, text, publication date, and file creation date.

  • After applying filters in "Authors", "Series", or "Titles" groups, books will display according to the selected filter parameters.
  • The "Text" filter allows sorting by part of the title, author name, or series name (requires at least two letters). It selects the element and related items if the entered text matches. For example, searching for a series name will show the series in the "Series" group, its authors in the "Authors" group, and all its books in the "Titles" group, even if the text isn't in the book titles or author names.
  • The "Clear all" option removes all filter parameters. To clear a single filter, select "Clear" within that filter or erase text in the "Text" filter.

4.3. Working with lists and books

A short tap on a list opens its content. To navigate up a level, use the arrow in the upper part of the list or press the BACK button.

A short tap on a book opens its description page, showing title, author, genre, and annotations, provided this information is present in the file's metadata. Fields may be empty if metadata is incomplete.

A long tap on a book brings up a menu:

  • Read: Choose a reading app.
  • Properties: View book information.
  • Delete: Remove the book from the device. If the book is in an archive, the entire archive and its files will be deleted.

To return to the main library page, press the BACK button multiple times or tap the "Arrow to the left" icon in the top tray.

4.4. The library view setup

Change the library view by tapping the [eye icon] and selecting "One column" or "Two columns".

4.5. Choosing the type of displayed information

Tap the "Information types" icon [three dots icon] to access the following menu:

  • Open File: Access the file manager (storage) displaying folders.
  • Favorites: View a list of favorite books.
  • Recent Files: See a list of recently opened books.
  • Sort: Order books (available in the file manager).

4.6. The file manager

Launch the file manager by tapping the "Information types" icon [three dots icon] and selecting "Open file". Only files compatible with reading programs are displayed.

Note: Folders with many files may show only a partial list. The current path is displayed at the top. The "Arrow" icon on the right and the BACK button allow navigation up one level.

Attention: The Library, File Manager, Favorites, and Recent Files are single-level views. Repeatedly pressing the BACK button in the file manager leads to the root directory. To return to the library, use the "Information types" icon [three dots icon] and select "Library".

Files and folders can be sorted by name, date, and size.

A short tap on a file opens it. A long tap on a file presents a menu:

  • Read: Choose a reading app.
  • Properties: View book information.
  • Delete: Remove the book file. If it's in an archive, the entire archive and its files are deleted.

4.7. Recent Files

Access the list of recently opened books by tapping the "Information types" icon [three dots icon] on the library's main page and selecting "Recent files". This list is limited to 256 books. Actions and view are similar to the file manager, excluding folder display.

To navigate to the library, file manager, or "Favorites", use the "Information types" icon [three dots icon].

4.8. Favorites

Access the list of favorite books by tapping the "Information types" icon [three dots icon] on the home page and selecting "Favorites". The view and actions are similar to the file manager, excluding folder display.

To add a book to Favorites, open its "Properties" window and tap the [star icon] in the top right. The star will turn dark.

To remove a book from the favorite list, briefly tap the book icon to open "Properties", then tap the [star icon] in the top right. The star will turn light. You can clear the entire favorites list by tapping the "Information types" icon [three dots icon] and choosing "Remove all". The files themselves remain on the device.

Use the "Information types" icon [three dots icon] for the "Files" list.

5. General Principles of Work with Reading Programs

The pre-installed reading programs support TXT, HTML, RTF, FB2, FB2.zip, FB3, DOC, DOCX, PRC, MOBI, CHM, PDB, EPUB, JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, PDF, DjVu, CBR, CBZ, MP3, and WAV files.

Turn pages by simply touching the sensor screen.

Reading programs allow adding bookmarks. In the AlReaderX app, bring up the menu and select "Add Bookmark". In NeoReader, go to the desired page and briefly press the icon in the upper right corner; it will change. Clicking it again deletes the bookmark. The menu in both programs allows viewing and navigating to added bookmarks.

Access settings by briefly touching the center of the screen.
