Device Purpose and Functionality

The main purpose is to play and store various types of text and graphic files. It also provides the ability to connect to the wireless information and telecommunication network "Internet". Video playback is not supported.

1. EXTERNAL VIEW AND CONTROL

1.1. Front Side

A diagram shows the front of the e-reader with a power button labeled at the top.

Power Button:

• A short press and hold (if the reader is off) starts the device.
• A long press of the power button restarts the device.
• A short press activates sleep mode.

1.2. Bottom Side

A diagram shows the bottom of the e-reader with the following ports:

• microSD Slot: For microSD cards (not included), you can save any files for use on BOOX.
• Microphone: Intended for recording voice notes.
• USB-C Port: The USB cable included in the kit connects to this port. It is used for communication with a computer and charging the e-reader.

2. GETTING STARTED

2.1. How to turn on the device?

1. Press and hold the "Power" button for about 3 seconds. Loading will begin.
2. Release the "Power" button.
3. Wait for the loading to complete.

2.2. How to charge the device battery?

Connect the USB cable to the device's power port and a USB port on your desktop PC. The full charging time depends on the voltage of the desktop PC's USB port.

2.3. How to connect the device to a personal computer?

1. Turn on the BOOX.
2. Connect the BOOX to a personal computer's USB port using the USB cable.
3. After the device is recognized, a menu of actions will appear on the computer screen.
4. Select: "Open device to view files".
5. You now have access to the files in the internal memory.

NOTE 1: The device cannot be used while connected to a PC.

NOTE 2: Before turning off, disconnect the device from the desktop PC.

NOTE 3: Windows 7 and newer versions are recommended.

NOTE 4: For Mac OS, Android File Transfer is required.

2.4. How to turn off the device?

1. Press and hold the "Power" button for about 2 seconds.
2. A shutdown and restart menu will appear.
3. Press the "Turn off" button.

3. GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF WORKING WITH READING PROGRAMS

The reading program pre-installed on the reader is used for reading text files.

Page turning is possible by default in the following ways:

• By touching the right part of the screen (to turn forward) and the left part of the screen (to turn backward);
• By sliding your finger from right to left (to turn forward) and from left to right (to turn backward).

You can access the reading program settings by briefly touching the center of the screen.

4. WORKING WITH THE DICTIONARY

4.1. Translating a word selected in the text

1. Highlight the word in the text with a long press.
2. Its translation will appear in the window that opens.
3. To use the online translator, slide the translation window to the left.
4. In the new window that appears, you will see the translation produced by the remote server in accordance with the selected settings.

4.2. Translating a text fragment

1. Highlight the word in the text with a long press. Without lifting your finger, move it further along the text until the desired fragment is selected. Release your finger.
2. In the window that appears, you will see the translation of the selected fragment, produced by the remote server in accordance with the selected settings.

NOTE 1: To work with the dictionary, you need to pre-install dictionary databases in Stardict format.

NOTE 2: To work with the online translator and to translate text fragments, a preliminary internet connection is required.

4.3. Using the Dictionary Application

To translate a word, enter it in the top window. As you add letters, words from the active dictionary base will appear. Select the desired one.

4.4. Installing Dictionary Bases

1. Find a dictionary base in Stardict format on the Internet, if necessary, unpack it from the archive.
2. The dictionary base should be presented as a folder containing three files with the extensions .dz, .idx, .ifo.
3. Find the "dicts" folder in the device's internal memory. If it doesn't exist, create it in the root directory.
4. Copy the required dictionary bases into this folder.
5. The "Dictionary" program will automatically detect the dictionary bases.

5. WARNINGS AND OPERATING CONDITIONS

5.1. A new battery reaches its maximum capacity after 2-3 recharge cycles.

5.2. To avoid loss of important data, we strongly recommend that you periodically save it to alternative media, especially before updating the software. Our company is not responsible for the safety of your data.

5.3. Please do not open the device yourself.

5.4. Do not twist or bend the device's body, or cause other deformations.

5.5. Avoid dropping the device onto hard surfaces.

5.6. Do not apply excessive pressure to the screen or hit it. The screen has a glass base.

5.7. Avoid getting water on the device. Do not use it near open water sources.

5.8. Avoid using BOOX in conditions of:

• Low temperature;
• High temperature;
• Strong magnetic field;
• High humidity;
• High dust content;
• Direct sunlight.

NOTE: Temperature and humidity ranges are specified in the Technical Specifications section of this manual.

5.9. Do not use concentrated cleaning agents. Use a dry cotton cloth to clean the device.

5.10. Do not replace parts of the device.

5.11. Use batteries, chargers, and other accessories recommended by the manufacturer. The use of third-party accessories may be dangerous and may void the warranty.

5.12. When disposing of old equipment, follow the rules and laws in force in the territory of operation.

5.13. If you encounter problems with the device, contact the nearest service center. Information about service centers can be found in the warranty card.

5.14. The manufacturer reserves the right to make changes to the device without notifying consumers.
