Installation Steps
Passenger Side: Rear Drive Linkage Install
Step 1: Locate the rear linkage position on the passenger side. Clean undercoating so any proud edges are knocked off and the mounting surface is flat.
Step 2: Set the template (23) up to the marked line. Center punch the holes. Pre-drill holes with an 1/8" drill bit and then drill to 17/32". Insert rivet nuts (15) into position. Refer to the install card in the rivet nut tool (18) bag. Then pre-thread M8 screws (6) and washers (7) into position. Warning: Rivet nuts not properly collapsed will not hold securely to sheet metal.
Step 3: Using supplied Flange bolts (12), install bracket (21) onto the Drive linkage Upper mount (2a). Do not tighten to allow for adjustment. Use shorter bolts to prevent bolt and linkage arm interference.
Step 4: Set the rear Drive linkage (2a) over bolts (6 & 7). Using a 13mm box wrench, snug up two bolts on the linkage.
Passenger Side: Front Idler Linkage Install
Step 5: Locate the front linkage mounting position. Location is approximately 11" forward of the tab in the unibody crossmember as shown. Tape template (23) in place and center punch holes.
Step 6: Pre-drill holes with an 1/8" drill bit and then drill to 17/32". Insert rivet nuts (15) into position. Refer to the install card in the rivet nut tool (18) bag. Then pre-thread M8 screws (6) and washers (7) into position. Warning: Rivet nuts not properly collapsed will not hold securely to sheet metal.
Step 7: Using supplied Flange bolts (12), install bracket (20) onto the Idler linkage Upper mount (3a). Do not tighten to allow for adjustment. Use shorter bolts to prevent bolt and linkage arm interference.
Step 8: Set the front idler linkage (3a) over bolts (6 & 7). Using a 13mm box wrench, snug up two bolts on the linkage.
Driver Side: Front Linkage Install
Step 9: Locate the Driver side front linkage location. Clean undercoating off so any proud edges are knocked off and the mounting surface is flat. Front idler linkage location is approximately 10" forward of the unibody cross member. Tape template (23) in place and center punch holes.
Step 10: Pre-drill holes with an 1/8" drill bit and then drill to 17/32". Insert rivet nuts (15) into position. Refer to the install card in the rivet nut tool (18) bag. Then pre-thread M8 screws (6) and washers (7) into position. Warning: Rivet nuts not properly collapsed will not hold securely to sheet metal.
Step 11: (For vehicles with Rear AC) If the AC line is present, gently shift the line to add clearance at the upper mount.
Driver Side: Rear Drive Linkage Install
Step 12: Locate the Driver side rear Drive linkage location. Clean undercoating off so any proud edges are knocked off and the mounting surface is flat. Rear drive linkage location is approximately 2" rearward of the unibody cross member. Tape template (23) in place and center punch holes. Drill and insert rivet nuts (15).
Step 13: Pre-drill holes with an 1/8" drill bit and then drill to 17/32". Insert rivet nuts (15) into position. Refer to the install card in the rivet nut tool (18) bag. Then pre-thread M8 screws (6) and washers (7) into position. Warning: Rivet nuts not properly collapsed will not hold securely to sheet metal.
Running Board Installation
Step 14: Install the running board onto the lower mounts. For the passenger side, measure 9 inches from the end of the board to the side of the linkage. For the driver side, measure 3 inches from the end of the board to the side of the linkage, as shown.
Step 15: Using light pressure, pull the running board from the inside edge to get the step in the level position. Hold the running board in position. Mark the upper hole location in the rear brackets.
Bracket Installation & Motor Attachment
Step 16: Remove bracket bolts on the side of the upper mount to rotate out of the way. Center punch, pre-drill with 1/8", and then final drill to 17/32". Install rivet nut. Install longer flange bolt and reassemble bolts on bracket at linkage.
Step 17: With the front bracket in place, mark the hole. Center punch, pre-drill with 1/8", and then final drill to 17/32". Install rivet nut. Install longer flange bolt and reassemble bolts on bracket at linkage. Note: 2 Washers are provided to space out multiple layers of sheetmetal.
Step 18: Install bracket into position and tighten using a 13mm socket or wrench. Once brackets are installed, attach the motor to the rear linkage. Refer to Page 2 for motor installation details.
Wiring Harness Installation
Step 19: Remove the fuse from the harness. Connect the positive terminal on the power lead using a 10mm socket. Connect the ground to a body ground in the bottom of the seat box. Run trigger wires up through the large rubber boot. The zip tie around the boot may need to be removed to route the wire through. If so, use one supplied zip tie (9) and re-seal the boot.
Step 20: Remove the driver's seat box cover. Be careful not to damage the Air Bag wire that runs across the cover.
Step 21: Remove all sill plate covers to route trigger wires under the dash.
Step 22: Route trigger wires (Solid Purple and Purple / Black Stripe) under the seat and out under the sill plate cover.
Step 23: Route 2 wires up towards the driver side kick panel.
Step 24: Using supplied Posi-Lock® connectors (11), connect matching wire colors together. Connect Purple wires and Purple w/Black Stripe wires as per instructions on the next page.
OBD II Installation
Step 25: Use supplied Posi-Lock® connectors to attach the Plug and Play Module to the Harness. Attach matching colors on the harness to the wires on the module. Plug the module into the OBD II port on the vehicle. Secure the harness with supplied tie wraps. Note: If the OBD II pass-through harness (76404-01A) was purchased, see the install sheet supplied in packaging. The pass-through harness allows for an open port for other accessories.
Diagram Description: Illustrations show the OBD II connector location below the steering column and two wiring options: "Direct to Port Option" and "Pass-Through Harness Option", detailing connections to the Powerstep Control Module, Powerstep Connection Module, and Vehicle Port.
Routing Remaining Wires
Step 26: Route remaining wires up and over the exhaust heat shield and back along each side to the motors. Connect the plug to the motors.
Step 27: Replace all dash panels and sill plate covers.
Step 28: Some vehicles may have a shield. Verify the board does not come in contact with the shield. If the board contacts the shield, bend the shield out of the way to prevent contact.
Step 29: Measure from the front edge of the door line on the pinch weld to the specified lengths below. Measure at 12" for the front LED Light and 60" for the rear LED Light.
LED Lamp Installation
Step 30: Drill a 9/32" hole through the pinch weld at marked locations. Debur all holes.
Step 31: Insert grommet (25) into drilled holes. Insert lamp wires through the grommets. (Silicon lube will help wires slip through grommets.)
Step 32: Affix lamp (16) to the rocker panel surface. Make sure the lamp is affixed to a flat, clean surface.
Step 33: Using supplied butt connectors (17), connect the lamp wires. Connect Red to Red, Black to Black.
Step 34: Use a heat gun to shrink the tube. Close and wrap conduit with electrical tape. Secure all loose wires with cable ties. Pull lamp wires upward to avoid any wire snagging.
Step 35: Reinstall the fuse to the wire harness.
Final System Check
Check that all doors activate the Power Step and the LED Lights work when doors open and close. Reinstall any remaining trim panels.
Normal Operation:
- When doors open, PowerStep automatically deploys from under the vehicle.
- When doors close, PowerStep automatically returns to the stowed/retracted position. There is a 2-second delay before returning to the stowed/retracted position.
Correct Operation of Lights:
- All four lamps illuminate upon opening any door.
- Lamps stay on until Power Steps stow or 5 minutes expire with doors open.
- If lights timeout after 5 minutes, they can be reilluminated by closing and opening any door.
