- Open the film scanner by lifting the upper shell.
- Insert 2 AA batteries into the battery compartment of the bottom shell.
- Flip out the support brackets attached to the bottom of the upper shell.
- Place the upper shell onto the bottom shell, carefully inserting the support brackets into the corresponding holes. Ensure the orange arrow on the top shell points towards the light plate.
- Turn the film scanner ON and insert your film by sliding it onto the light plate. Use the cleaning cloth to remove dust or fingerprints from the film or scanner.
- (Optional) For extra stability, especially with larger smartphones, use the included magnetic phone plate. Place it between your phone and its case to magnetically attach it to the magnets in the upper plate.
- Place your smartphone onto the top plate with the camera positioned over the edge, aligned with the light plate.
- Minimize ambient light by turning off other lights and dimming windows. Reduced light improves scan quality.

Deinstallation Steps
- Ensure the power switch is turned OFF.
- To fold the scanner, gently pull the upper shell upwards from the bottom shell.
- Fold in the support brackets. Each bracket is numbered to indicate the folding order.
- Place the upper shell back onto the bottom shell.
Scanning
Types of Film
The KLIM K2 Film Scanner supports two types of 35 mm film:
- Positive 35 mm (color or black & white)
- Negative 35 mm (color or black & white)
Positive films can be scanned using your smartphone's default camera app or third-party apps offering advanced features. It is recommended to try different apps to find the best fit for your needs.
Note: KLIM is not affiliated with any third-party apps. Image rights belong to their respective owners. Availability of apps may vary by region/language.
Scanning Positive 35 mm Film
Using your smartphone's default camera application:
- Align your smartphone's camera with the light plate.
- Optionally zoom in for a sharp image.
- Take a photo to scan your film.
You can edit scans later in your phone's photo gallery, cropping borders or adjusting colors.
Using a 3rd party app: SLIDESCAN BY PHOTOMYNE
- Open the Slidescan app on your smartphone.
- You may be prompted to register/login; tap "Skip" to continue without an account.
- The app may show a demo or premium feature information; skip these to use the free plan. Continue until you see the "Start Scanning" button.
- Tap "Start scanning" and then "OK" when prompted to grant camera access.
- Tap the display to focus on your film.
- Press and hold the scan button for 3 seconds.
- To edit your scan, access the gallery via the cross icon (top left) or the image preview (bottom right) and tap the edit icon.
- Note: If a scan has an incorrect cutout (missing parts or too much background), use the cropping tool in the edit feature to adjust.
- To add more scans, press the "Add" button at the bottom center.

Scanning Negative 35 mm Film
Negative films require a special app to invert the image from negative to positive. Recommended apps include Filmbox by Photomyne and Kodak Mobile Film Scanner. Instructions for these apps are similar to positive film scanning, with the key difference being the image inversion process.

Using Snapseed:
- Open the Snapseed app.
- Tap the screen to select your scan.
- Choose from various color filters.
- Use the "Tools" option for advanced editing features.
- Export your changes from the bottom right corner.
