5.3 Brief Description of the Appliance Functions

  • MonoFridge: The freezer compartment operates as a second refrigerator or FreshBox. Relocate food that could be spoiled by freezing/defrosting before activating. It takes several hours to reach the new temperature; keep the door closed. Fast freezing changes to Fast Cooling MonoFridge. Food in FreshBox can be stored up to three times longer than in a standard refrigerator. Risk of freezing in FreshBox if temperature is too low; set higher if needed. Store animal and vegetable foodstuffs separately or covered to prevent germ transmission. Cold-sensitive items (tropical fruit, cucumbers, tomatoes) should be stored outside the FreshBox.
  • Fast Cooling / Fast Cooling MonoFridge* / Fast Freezing*: Allows faster cooling/freezing of larger food quantities. The temperature is lowered to the coldest value for a maximum of 12 hours (cooling) or 72 hours (freezing). The appliance operates at higher power, potentially increasing noise. Functions switch off automatically. Must be reactivated after a power failure. Activate several hours before loading food. Fast freezing must be activated at least 24 hours before freezing fresh food, or sooner if only storing already frozen food. (*) Depending on model.
  • Holiday Function: Freezer compartment operates at -18 °C. Refrigerator compartment and second refrigerator compartment (MonoFridge) operate at approximately 14 °C for hygiene. Keep doors closed. Duration can be set from 1 to 90 days or ended manually. Cannot be activated for FreshBox with MonoFridge. Remains active after power failure. Not intended for storing food in the refrigerator compartment.
  • Sabbath Mode: Turns off visual and acoustic warnings. Illumination is unaffected by door opening/closing. Ice-maker and certain functions are deactivated without acoustic signals. Doors must be closed firmly. No error messages or warnings are displayed. In certain circumstances, the appliance may switch to emergency mode or fail to maintain temperatures; check food quality. Do not eat thawed food. Risk of food poisoning.
  • Ice Cube Mode: For regularly making ice cubes. See 'Switching on and using the ice-maker' (page 26).
  • Water Filter Reminder: Displays remaining filter capacity and time until exhaustion. Resetting the reminder also resets the filtered water counter. Reset the counter whenever the filter cartridge is changed.
  • Cleaning the Water System: Recommended if ice cube mode is deactivated or the ice-maker is unused for a longer period. Place ice cube bin or a suitable receptacle under the ice-maker. Repeat cleaning until water is clean. Wash the bin/receptacle afterwards. Deactivate ice cube mode before cleaning.
  • Condenser Reminder: Reminder to manually clean the condenser every 180 days. See 'Care and Maintenance' (page 30).

6 Switching on and Using the Ice-Maker

Check that a water filter cartridge is installed and the water circuit has been flushed before first use. Discard the first full bin of ice made. Clean the water filter before using the ice-maker if the appliance has not been used for over a month. Ice cubes are only produced in the freezer compartment when MonoFridge is deactivated. The ice-maker continues to make ice cubes even if the ice cube bin is not in position. The ice-maker switches off automatically when the holiday function is activated. It takes 12 to 24 hours for the ice-maker to run automatically. The ice-maker produces approximately 10 ice cubes per cycle, with about 10 cycles per 24 hours, yielding roughly 100 ice cubes daily. Performance depends on freezer temperature, ambient temperature, and door openings. The appliance makes ice until the bin is full, then switches off automatically. The ice cube mode must be switched off if the appliance is not connected to the water supply. Ice cube size (medium or large) can be selected. PartyIce function increases ice production and switches off automatically after 24 hours. If ice cubes are not removed frequently, they may shrink, stick together, and become cloudy. Ice cubes can absorb odours. To prevent odours:

  • Clean the ice cube bin periodically with warm water and dry it. Ensure the function is switched off before cleaning.
  • Dispose of spoiled food in the freezer. Store food airtight to prevent odours.
  • Check and replace the water filter as necessary.
  • Check the quality of the domestic water supply.

Do not use the ice cube bin to store bottles or cool food quickly, as the ice-maker can get blocked and damaged.

6.1 Changing the Water Filter

The water filter ensures optimal water quality for ice cubes (up to 3,000 l or 12 months). A message appears in the display when the filter is nearly exhausted. The filter is located behind the glass panel at the top of the refrigerator compartment.

  • Pull the two levers on either side of the glass panel to release the lock.
  • Carefully pull out the glass panel.
  • Remove the filter cartridge from its holder with a quarter turn anti-clockwise. A small amount of water may escape.
  • Take the end cap off the new cartridge, insert it into the holder, and turn clockwise a quarter turn until it clicks into place.

7 Interior and Accessories

In the CombiCooler V6000 Supreme (51096), the vegetable drawer, freezer drawer, and ice cube bin are removable. Shelves and door trays are height-adjustable. (*) Depending on model.

  • Vegetable Drawer: The drawer is on guide rails. Lift, pull out, and remove the drawer.
  • Freezer Drawer*: The drawer is on guide rails. Remove adjacent fastening screws (2x). Lift, pull out, and remove the drawer. To remove the lower main drawer: Unscrew the locking nuts (4x).
  • Ice Cube Bin*: Located in the top freezer drawer. After pulling out, ensure the ice cube bin is put back in position correctly. Keep hands and fingers away from the ice-maker when in operation.
  • Shelves: Shelves are height-adjustable. To change height, release the safety cover at the back and raise the shelf at the front, tilting slightly. To remove a shelf: Raise and pull out.
  • Door Trays: To adjust or remove door trays, hold the tray at both ends and push upwards until it comes out of its fixture, then pull outwards. Reverse steps to reinsert. New appliances may require more effort to adjust trays and shelves.

8 Tips and Tricks

8.1 General Information on Using the Appliance

  • Ensure appliance doors form a proper seal all around when closing.
  • It takes several hours for food and beverages to cool from room temperature.
  • Extended door opening significantly increases temperature in refrigerating zones.
  • Ensure food on glass shelves does not tip over or prevent door closure.
  • Surfaces in contact with food and accessible drainage systems must be cleaned regularly.
  • Changing temperature settings does not affect cooling rate; fast cooling/freezing functions increase it.
  • Placing very warm or very cold items directly in front of a temperature sensor can adversely affect temperature regulation, leading to insufficient or excessive cooling.
  • Ensure air outlets are not blocked by food items.

8.2 Notes on Refrigerating and Freezing Food

  • Activate fast cooling/freezing before loading food.
  • High-protein and high-fat foods are delicate and have a short storage life.
  • Observe best-before and use-by dates.
  • Wrap or cover food in the refrigerator to prevent drying out and flavour transfer.
  • Transfer opened tin contents to sealable containers.
  • Store raw meat and fish in suitable containers in the refrigerator to prevent contact with or dripping onto other food.
  • Freezing fresh food may cause already frozen food to partially thaw. Freeze smaller quantities and avoid contact with already frozen food.
  • Suitable packaging materials include freezer bags, aluminium foil, or plastic boxes. Make packaging airtight to avoid freezer burn.
  • Do not refreeze food once defrosted, unless prepared (cooked or fried) first.
  • Blanch vegetables before freezing, except for aubergines, sweet peppers, courgettes, mushrooms, asparagus, and herbs.
  • Products not suitable for freezing: radishes, lettuces, cucumbers, raw unshelled eggs, boiled eggs, dairy products (yogurt, cream cheese, curd cheese), and mayonnaise.
  • Do not defrost frozen food at room temperature or on heating. Defrosting in the refrigerator compartment is slow; microwave or steam cooker are quicker alternatives.

8.3 Notes on Saving Energy

  • Leave drawers, glass shelves, and door trays in their original positions for ideal temperature distribution and efficiency.
  • Open appliance doors only when necessary and for the shortest possible time.
  • Allow hot or warm food to cool down before placing it in the appliance.
  • Store food that releases moisture in closed containers or covered in the refrigerator compartment, as moisture reduces cooling capacity.
  • For ideal air circulation, do not store food items too close to each other.

9 Care and Maintenance

9.1 General Cleaning Instructions

For hygienic food storage, the interior must always be kept clean. Disconnect the appliance from the mains before cleaning.

  • Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or scouring cloths. Be careful not to press too hard on plastic surfaces. Do not use acidic or strongly alkaline cleaning agents on metal surfaces. Take care not to damage the refrigerant circuit.
  • Clean steel surfaces with the supplied microfibre cloth and special sponge. Dampen the microfibre cloth slightly to restore shine. Observe detailed instructions provided. Always wipe in the direction of the satin finish lines of the steel. Do not use the sponge on aluminium surfaces like handles or glass shelf trims.

9.2 Cleaning the Interior

Avoid direct contact between cold glass parts (shelves) and boiling water. Wash all removable accessories by hand, not in the dishwasher, to prevent damage or deformation.

  • Condensation may form in vegetable drawers and on glass shelves depending on food type and quantity. Wipe away condensation regularly with a dry cloth.
  • Ice may build up in FreshBox drawers if a low temperature is set. Set FreshBox temperature to +2 °C, wipe away condensate the next day. If ice layer is thick, switch off FreshBox to defrost.
  • Periodically clean the interior with a mild soapy solution and wipe completely dry.
  • Do not use water on electrical parts, light bulbs, or control panels.
  • If the appliance is not to be used for a longer period, switch it off, empty and clean it. Leave refrigerator and freezer compartment doors open.

9.3 Cleaning and Care for the Ice-Maker

Failure to follow cleaning and care instructions can affect ice cube quality.

  • Discard the first full bin of ice made when using the appliance for the first time and after replacing the filter.
  • Clean the ice cube bin regularly under cool, running drinking water. Ensure the function is switched off before cleaning.
  • The filter must be changed when the LED on the control panel illuminates or if the system has not been used for over 30 days.
  • It is recommended to disinfect the ice cube dispensing system with a sodium hypochlorite-based disinfectant suitable for food contact materials. Flush the system with at least 2 litres of water before use.

9.4 Cleaning the Condenser

The condenser is located behind the front ventilation grille at the bottom. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment on full power to clean the ventilation grille slots. If dust build-up is heavy, the grille can be removed for more thorough cleaning. A reminder appears every 180 days. Clean the condenser and reset the reminder.

  • How to reset the reminder: Use the functions and settings (page 14).
  • Switch off the appliance by holding the [ON/OFF] button for 3 seconds.
  • Wait approximately 30 minutes for the condenser temperature to reach ambient air temperature.
  • Remove the grille below the appliance door(s).
  • Remove all dust deposits from the condenser, taking care not to damage it.
  • Switch the appliance back on by holding the [ON/OFF] button for 3 seconds.

The fins on the condenser are sharp! Use suitable protective equipment for hands and arms.

10 Noises

The appliance can make various noises during operation. Although noise-optimized, some noise is unavoidable. This noise depends on appliance size, installation, cooling requirements (e.g., fast cooling), ambient temperature, and installation conditions. Operating noises are particularly audible immediately after the compressor starts but become quieter during operation. Unusual noises are often caused by improper installation; the appliance must be installed on a level and stable surface. In open kitchens or partitioned areas, normal operating noises may seem louder; this is an effect of design/architecture, not a fault.

13.2 Safety

Render the appliance unusable to prevent accidents caused by improper use (e.g., through children playing):

  • Disconnect the appliance from the mains. For a fixed appliance, this must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Then cut the mains cable off flush with the appliance.
  • When disposing of the appliance, ensure the appliance door cannot be accidentally closed.
  • Ensure the refrigerant circuit is not damaged during disposal.
  • The refrigerant circuit and insulation do not contain any substances harmful to the ozone layer.
