How Your e.life Bike Works

  1. Switch the battery to ON using the switch on its side. Then, switch the power on by pressing the top power button on your handlebar controller. (Refer to Fig.14 for controller details)
  2. As you begin to pedal, a sensor detects the effort required to turn the wheels.
  3. After one pedal rotation, the electric motor engages, making pedaling much easier.
  4. Your handlebar controller has 3 assistance settings (levels 1, 2, 3) to adjust the level of support you need. For example, use 'High' mode for hills.
  5. You can change the assistance level at any time.
  6. The motor assists pedaling; it stops when you stop pedaling.
  7. Applying the brakes also cuts the motor assist. (Refer to Fig.13)
  8. You can switch the assist OFF and ON on the controller during your journey to save battery power when not needed.

Battery life varies based on rider weight, terrain, and assist level usage. With normal use, expect around 20 miles per charge. We recommend getting accustomed to your e.bike and its assist levels to optimize your journey planning and ensure safe returns.

You can also ride the bike as a normal bicycle if the battery charge runs out.

Unpacking and Unfolding Your e.bike

Unpacking Your New e.bike

Your bike is supplied 100% assembled in the carton.

  1. It is recommended to have another person assist with unpacking, as lifting the bike out of the box is easier with two people.
  2. Remove all protective packing materials and dispose of them responsibly.
  3. After unpacking, check the bike for any damage that may have occurred during transit. If anything is missing or damaged, contact Ideal World customer services. (Support available at idealworld.tv > gb/self-service)

Unfolding Your e.life (Step 1: Frame)

  1. Unfold the frame by lifting the locking pin, then close the frame, allowing the pin to slot into its location hole. (Refer to Fig.1)
  2. Swing the quick release bar around into the slot on the front frame section as shown. (Refer to Fig.2)
  3. Close the quick release arm to tighten and lock the two frame sections together. (Refer to Fig.3)
  4. To fold your frame for transport or storage, reverse steps 1-3.

When unfolded, resting your bike on its stand (attached to the left rear chainstay) makes completing the remaining steps easier.

Unfolding Your e.life (Step 2: Handlebars and Stem)

  1. Unfold the handlebars and stem by lifting them until they are sitting vertically. (Refer to Fig.4, Fig.5, Fig.6, Fig.7)
  2. Raise the clamp arm up towards the stem to lock it in place.

Unfolding Your e.bike (Step 3: Pedals)

When replacing pedals, remember the right pedal tightens clockwise and the left pedal anti-clockwise.

  1. To fold the pedals for storage or transportation, pull the pedal outwards and fold it downwards. (Refer to Fig.8, Fig.9)

Photo shows pedal movement direction.

Fitting the Saddle

Ensure the seatpost is not raised higher than the minimum insertion mark clearly visible on the seatpost.

The saddle and seatpost are pre-fitted.

  1. Slide the seatpost into the seat tube and close the tension lever on the quick release clamp to secure your seat. (Refer to Fig.10, Fig.11)
  2. Adjust the saddle height to your preference by releasing the clamp, adjusting, and then tightening when at the correct height.
  3. If the clamp does not provide enough grip to hold the saddle position, release the tension lever, turn the wheel nut a quarter turn, and close the tension lever. Repeat as necessary.

The knurled adjustment nut may require a quarter turn until the required tightness is achieved.

Pre-Ride Checks and Getting Started

Pre-Ride Checks

Complete these checks before every ride:

  1. Ensure all nuts and fastenings are tight.
  2. Check that your tyres are inflated sufficiently (refer to the tyre wall for recommended pressure).
  3. Verify that the brakes are working correctly.
  4. Check your battery for charge. (Refer to Fig.12) Your new e.bike is supplied with a partial charge.

Getting Started

  1. Switch the battery ON by pressing the switch button. (Refer to Fig.17)
  2. Press the power button on the controller on your handlebars to switch on the system. The 'MODE' should be set to '1'.
  3. You are now ready to go!
  4. To start, simply begin to pedal. Once the crank turns, the motor will engage and begin to assist you.
  5. There are 3 levels of assist (1, 2, 3). It is advisable to try all levels to understand their effect on your riding.
  6. Remember, stopping pedaling or applying the brakes will cut the motor assist, ensuring you always feel in control.

Applying the brakes activates the brake sensor, which cuts power to the motor.

Understanding Your Controller

Your controller is fitted to the left side of the handlebar.

Key Functions:

  • ON/OFF Button: Switch on after the battery switch is ON.
  • Lever Buttons (1, 2, 3): Easy selection of assistance levels.
  • Battery Indicator Lights: These lights are red and decrease as power is used.
  • Power Indicator Behavior: As you ride uphill, the power indicator may drop, showing increased resistance. On level ground, the lights will return to indicate available power levels more accurately.
  • Walking Mode: This bike features a 6km/h walking mode, allowing you to push your bike effortlessly over steep inclines. Activate this by holding down the minus button for 3 seconds.

(Refer to Fig.14 for controller layout and button functions.)

Understanding Your Battery

Security & Removal

  1. You are supplied with 2 keys to secure your battery to your bike. It is advisable to keep keys separate as they cannot be replaced if lost.
  2. You can unlock your battery to remove it for security or to charge it away from the bike.
  3. To remove the battery, push in the key and turn it to the anticlockwise position. (Refer to Fig.15, Fig.16, Fig.17)

Battery Operation

  1. Switch the battery ON/OFF by pressing the button on the side of the battery. (Refer to Fig.17)
  2. Remember to switch the battery OFF when not in use to prevent draining.
  3. The power indicator lights are on the top of the battery. Pressing the button next to them shows the charge level. (Refer to Fig.12)

Battery Charger

Only use the charger supplied with your e.life bike. The charger is set to 220/240V; never use a 110v setting.

  • Avoid dropping the charger, as this may damage its internal electronics.
  • The battery can be left charging; it will stop automatically when fully charged. However, it is not recommended to leave it charging for extended periods beyond what is required.

Charging Your Battery

Your Lithium Battery arrives partially charged and can be charged on or off your bike.

  1. Plug the charger into the mains; the LED light will illuminate GREEN.
  2. Connect the charger to the battery using the provided lead. The LED light on the charger will change to RED, indicating it is charging.
  3. Once fully charged, the LED light on the charger will switch back to GREEN, indicating the battery is full, and then turn off.

Your Battery Indicator Lights:

When fully charged, all 4 indicator lights on the battery will be GREEN. They will go out as the power is drained. Press the button next to the lights to check the power level (ensure the battery is switched ON).

(Refer to Fig.18 for charging port and charging time estimate.)

To fully charge your battery takes approximately 2-3 hours.

Basic Rules for Charging Your Battery

  1. Do not cover the charger with any material that restricts airflow; it needs to 'breathe' to stay cool.
  2. Charging your battery after each use, regardless of trip length, will prolong its lifespan.
  3. DO NOT leave the battery discharged for long periods.
  4. Never open the charger or change its settings.

Understanding the Gears

The gears function like those on a normal bicycle and are independent of the electric motor.

The Revoshift is located on the right side of the handlebars. It features a large shift lever: turn it towards '+' for HIGH gear and towards '-' for LOW gear. (Refer to Fig.19)

The 6-speed conventional gearing can be operated by thumb shifting up to low gears and using a simple release button to shift back to high gears. The lowest gear is the easiest to pedal, and the highest is the hardest.

The gears are pre-set at the factory and should not require adjustment initially. Over time, cables may stretch, necessitating adjustment, typically best performed during your 3-month service. Your local bike shop or specialist e.bike shop can provide this service. (See page 15 for more details.)

(Refer to Fig.20 for rear derailleur.)

Maintenance of Your e.bike

It is acceptable to oil the front and rear axles and the chain. The motor itself should not be lubricated.

1. General Maintenance

  1. Wipe your bike with a dry cloth or a neutral detergent.
  2. Use lubrication oil for metal parts such as the chain and axles.
  3. Wipe down plastic and paint-coated parts with a damp cloth.
  4. Increase the frequency of lubrication in wet or humid conditions. (Recommend 30SAE lubricating oil)

2. Weekly Inspection

It is recommended to inspect your bike weekly for any parts that may have loosened and require re-tightening.

3. Every 6 Months

A full service is recommended every six months to keep your bike in excellent working order.

Storage

When storing the bike and not in use, remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Periodically charge the battery, as it will discharge over time if left unused. Failure to do so may result in the battery entering a dormant state, rendering it unrepairable.

If you are not comfortable performing maintenance tasks, please take your bike to a local bicycle workshop for assistance.

(Refer to Fig.21 for motor area.)
