eLife La Grande Owners Manual
POWER ASSISTED BICYCLES
Welcome to the World of e.bike cycling.
Congratulations on purchasing your new electric power-assisted e.bike. This manual is designed to be simple and easy to follow, explaining how your bike works and how it is maintained. For support, a technical helpline is available.
Technical Helpline: 01702208187 (weekdays 9am-5pm, standard call rate charge applies)
How your e.life bike works:
- Press the button under the battery to ON.
- Switch the power on by pressing the top left button on your controller on the handlebars.
- As you begin to pedal, a sensor will read the level of effort needed to turn the wheels.
- After one complete pedal turn, the electric motor kicks in, making pedaling much easier.
- There are 4 settings on your controller, allowing you to set the level of assistance you require. For example, riding up a hill may require 'High' mode.
- Change the level of assistance at any time.
- The motor assists pedaling; stop pedaling and the motor stops. Applying the brakes cuts the motor.
- You can switch the assist OFF and ON on the controller at any point, saving battery power when not needed.
The range of the e.bike can vary considerably based on rider weight and terrain. With normal use, you should expect around 20 miles before needing to recharge.
We recommend getting used to your e.life bike and its assist levels to determine your typical journey range. You can also ride it as a normal bike if the charge runs out.

Video tutorials are available online or on the Ideal World website.
Unpacking and Unfolding your e.bike
Unpacking your new e.bike:
Your bike comes 100% assembled in the carton. We recommend having another person assist with lifting the bike out of the box.
- Remove all packing materials responsibly.
- Check for any damage during transit. Contact Ideal World customer services if anything is missing or damaged. (Idealworld.tv > gb/self-service)
Unfolding your e.bike:
Step 1. Frame:
- Unfold the frame until the two sections are inline.
- Push the large lever towards the frame to lock together.
- Turn the black security clip clockwise to cover the pin on the lever, preventing it from opening.
- To fold your frame for transport or storage, reverse steps 1-3.
NOTE: When unfolded, rest your bike on the bike stand (attached to the left rear chain stay) to make completing the next steps easier.
Step 2. Pedals:
To fold the pedals for storage or transportation, pull the pedal outwards and fold downwards.
NOTE: When replacing pedals, remember the right pedal tightens clockwise and the left pedal anti-clockwise.
Fitting the Saddle:
The saddle and seatpost are fitted together. Adjust the saddle height by releasing the screw with the tool from your tool bag and tightening at the correct height.
NOTE: Ensure the seatpost is not raised higher than the minimum insertion mark.
Pre-Ride Checks
Complete these checks before every ride:
- Check that all nuts and fastenings are tight.
- Check that your tires are inflated sufficiently (see tire wall).
- Check that the brakes are working correctly (factory set and should not require adjusting).
- Check your battery for charge. (Your e.life battery is supplied with a partial charge).
Getting Started
- Switch the battery ON using the button under the battery.
- Press the top button on the controller on your handlebars. The 'MODE' should be set to '1' (default setting).
- You are ready to go. Begin to pedal. Once the crank turns, you will feel the motor assist you.
- There are 4 levels of assist; try all levels to understand their effect on your riding.
- Remember, stopping pedaling or braking cuts the motor assist, ensuring you feel in control. Applying the brakes activates the brake sensor, cutting power to the motor.
Understanding your controller
Your Module Controller is fitted to the left side of the handlebar and has many functions:
- ON/OFF Button: Press to switch ON/OFF.
- Lever Buttons: Use '+' to increase assist level (0-3) and '-' to reduce assist level (3-0).
- Battery Indicator Lights: These are red and decrease as power is used. The power indicator may drop when riding uphill due to increased resistance, returning to a more accurate level on level ground.
- 6km Walking Mode: This function allows you to push your bike effortlessly over steep terrain. Activate by holding the minus button for 3 seconds.
Understanding your battery
Security:
- You are supplied with 2 keys to secure your battery. It is advisable to keep them separate as they cannot be replaced if lost.
- Insert the key and unlock the battery to remove it for security or charging away from the bike.
- To replace the battery, reverse the unlocking procedure.
Battery operation:
- Switching ON/OFF is via a switch located under the battery. Remember to switch OFF when not in use to prevent battery drain.
Battery Charger:
- Only use the supplied charger. The charger is set to 220/240V; never use a 110v setting.
- Avoid dropping the charger, as this may damage sensitive electronics.
- The battery can be left charging; it will stop automatically when fully charged. However, it is not recommended to leave it charging for extended periods beyond what is required.
Charging your Battery
Your Lithium Battery arrives partially charged. It can be charged on or off your bike.
- Plug the charger into the mains; the LED light will illuminate GREEN.
- Connect the charger to the battery; the LED light on the charger will change to RED, indicating it is charging.
- Once fully charged, the LED light on the charger switches back to GREEN and then goes off.
Basic rules for charging:
- Do not cover the charger, as it needs airflow to keep cool.
- Charging the battery each time you use it, regardless of trip length, will prolong its life.
- DO NOT leave the battery discharged for long periods.
- Never open the charger or change its settings.
To fully charge your battery takes approx. 2-3 hours.
Maintenance of your e.bike
General:
- Wipe your bike with a dry cloth or neutral detergent.
- Use lubrication oil for metal parts like the chain and axles.
- Wipe plastic and painted parts with a quality cloth.
- Increase lubrication frequency in wet or humid areas (Recommend 30SAE lubricating oil).
Weekly Inspection:
Inspect your bike weekly for any parts that may have slackened off and require re-tightening.
3 Month Inspection:
We recommend a full service every 3 months to keep your bike in excellent working order. Take it to your local bike shop for this. When storing the bike, remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place, charging it periodically. Failure to do so may result in the battery entering a dormant state, rendering it unrepairable.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are unable to perform maintenance, take your bike to a local bicycle workshop for assistance.
