Whirlpool Side-by-Side Refrigerator Quick Start Guide
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT: Before operating this appliance, ensure it has been properly installed according to the appliance's Owner's Manual. For convenience, refrigerator controls are preset at the factory. Upon initial installation, verify that the controls remain preset. Both refrigerator and freezer controls should be set to the "mid-settings."

TEMPERATURE SET POINTS
Allow the refrigerator sufficient time to cool down completely before adding food. It is recommended to wait 24 hours before placing food inside. The factory preset settings should be suitable for normal household refrigerator usage. Correct settings are achieved when milk or juice is as cold as desired and ice cream is firm.
If temperature adjustments are needed in the refrigerator or freezer, use the settings in the chart below as a guide. Wait at least 24 hours between adjustments.
CONDITION: | TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT: |
---|---|
Refrigerator too cold | Refrigerator control one snowflake lower |
Refrigerator too warm | Refrigerator control one snowflake higher |
Freezer too cold | Freezer control one snowflake lower |
Freezer too warm / too little ice | Freezer control one snowflake higher |
The set point range is "1 snowflake" (coldest) to "5 snowflakes" (least coldest).
REFRIGERATOR
The refrigerator control adjusts the refrigerator compartment temperature. Each click on the "Temp Setting" button makes the refrigerator compartment colder. LED indicators show the setting: 1 snowflake ❄️ indicates Less Cold, 2, 3, or 4 snowflakes ❄️❄️❄️ indicate Colder, and all LED indicators illuminated indicate Coldest. Once the last level is reached, the system cycles back to the initial level.
FREEZER
The freezer control adjusts the freezer compartment temperature. Settings towards the front of the mid-setting make the temperature less cold. Settings towards the back of the mid-setting make the temperature colder.
Wait 24 hours before adding food to the refrigerator. Adding food before the refrigerator has cooled completely may result in spoilage.
NOTE: Adjusting the refrigerator and freezer controls to a colder than recommended setting will not cool the compartments any faster.
DISPENSER LIGHT
When the dispenser is used, the light turns on automatically.
Light On: To keep the light on continuously, press the "Light On" button.
Light Off: To turn the light off again, press the "Light Off" button.
The dispenser lights are LEDs and cannot be replaced. If dispenser lights appear not to be working, refer to the online "Troubleshooting" section for more information.
DISPENSER LOCK
The dispenser can be turned off for easy cleaning or to prevent unintentional dispensing by small children and pets.
NOTE: The lock feature does not shut off power to the refrigerator, ice maker, or dispenser light. It only deactivates the controls and dispenser lever. To turn off the ice maker, consult the "Ice Maker and Storage Bin" section in the Owner's Manual.
Lock: Press the "Lock" button to lock the dispenser.
Unlock: Press the "Unlock" button to unlock the dispenser.
The display screen indicates when the dispenser is locked.
