Step 1: Release Nitrogen Gas

Locate the copper tubes on the side of the indoor unit. Loosen the cap on one of the copper tubes. You should hear a hissing noise, which is the release of harmless nitrogen gas. Allow all the nitrogen to escape the line. Put the cap back on securely and repeat for the other connection.

Installation Requirements

These units are designed for installation into drop ceilings or recessed into flat ceilings with joists that are 24 inches on center (22.5 inches apart).

Maintain at least 39.4 inches of clearance on all four sides of the indoor unit. It is recommended to install the indoor unit 8-10 feet above the floor.

Units must be installed flat; they are not suitable for pitched ceilings. Accessible space above the air handler is required for installation.

Outdoor Unit Clearances

Maintain the following clearances for the outdoor unit:

If used for heating, it is recommended to raise the outdoor unit to allow for proper drainage and keep it clear of expected snowfall.

Step 2: Prepare for Hanging

Carefully inspect the indoor unit. Ensure no accessories are in the blower compartment.

Prepare the Hanging Support Structure

Above where the indoor unit will be installed, use unistrut or 2x4 lumber to create a solid, secure, level structure for the threaded rod. Not all hanging hardware is included with the system.

Key Measurements for Suspension

Note the spacing between where the threaded rod will connect to the indoor unit: 21.5 inches and 20.6 inches. Mirror this spacing when suspending the threaded rod.

Select Threaded Rods

Measure the distance from the support structure to the ceiling and add 12 inches. Select 3/8 inch threaded rods that match this measurement (x4). This allows flexibility during installation. Threaded rods can be cut to size using a hacksaw or sawzall.

Step 3: Hang the Indoor Unit

This is a 2-person job. The bottom of the indoor unit must be installed level, with a 0.9 inch gap between the bottom of the unit and the interior of the ceiling.

Attach Hanger Brackets

Attach the hanger brackets to the threaded rods. Secure them by using a nut and washer on both the upper and lower sides of the hanger bracket.

Position and Level the Unit

Adjust the unit to the correct position for installation. Verify the 0.9 inch gap between the bottom of the indoor unit and the interior of the ceiling. Ensure the unit is level; failure to do so can cause operational issues and condensation leaks.

Step 4: Route Tubing and Wiring

Drill Hole for Connections

Drilling a vertical hole and feeding the copper tubing, along with the 14/4 stranded wire, through the soffit is a common installation practice for these models. The hole must be free of electrical wiring, plumbing, or other obstructions.

Install Wall Sleeve (Optional)

A wall sleeve isn't typically needed if drilling a vertical hole into a soffit.

Prepare Copper Tubes

Flare the ends of the copper tubes. Use Nylog sealant on the flare. Secure the copper tubing to the indoor unit. Do not over-tighten.

Leave enough copper tubing and 14/4 stranded wire to easily connect to the indoor unit. Secure the tubing every 5 feet. Use a pipe strap to secure the copper tubing to the ceiling joist or support structure.

Step 5: Manage Line Set and Wiring

Manage Copper Tubing

Do not kink the copper tubing line set.

Expose Wiring Connections

Expose the wiring connections on the indoor unit. Remove the two screws holding the board cover and then remove the cover.

Identify Key Wire Locations

The 14/4 stranded wire connections are as follows:

Step 6: Wire the Indoor Unit

Feed Wiring

Feed the 14/4 stranded wire through the opening in the cabinet.

Connect Wiring

Connect the 14/4 stranded wire to the indoor unit terminals:

Step 7: Install Indoor Unit Grille and Panel

Open Intake Grille

Open the intake grille and remove it.

Install Decoration Panel

Align the indicator on the decoration panel to the indicator on the unit. Attach the decoration panel to the unit with the supplied screws (M5).

Verify there is no space between the unit body and the decoration panel. Failure to do so can lead to condensation issues.

Mount Intake Grille

Ensure the grille is properly seated in the groove of the panel. [Diagram shows correct vs. incorrect seating].

Step 8: Connect Decoration Panel Wires

Connect the 2 wires of the decoration panel to the main board of the unit. Leave the third wire detached. Connect to the five-pin connector (for optional WiFi accessories) and the ten-pin connector. Do not connect the third wire to the black 4-pin connector.

Reconnect the board cover.

Step 9: Connect Condensate Drain Line

Use 3/4 inch PVC. These models have a factory-installed condensate pump with a float switch designed to pump water up to 18 inches vertically. After the vertical rise, gravity drain is required. A minimum downward pitch of 1/4 inch per foot is recommended.

Use the included short drain adapter; discard the long adapter. Seat the adapter as far onto the drain connection as possible and secure it with the included metal clamp.

Connect PVC and Terminate Drain

Connect the 3/4 inch PVC using PVC cement. Add support every 3-5 feet. Maintain an 11.8 inch minimum horizontal run before going vertical. The water must terminate outside and away from the structure or into a drain.

Step 10: Electrical Wiring

[Important Note: Any high voltage electrical installation should be performed by a qualified electrician or contractor. Ensure electricity is turned off. Follow all local and national electrical codes. Always verify line and load lug locations on the disconnect prior to wiring.]

Connect Indoor Unit to Outdoor Unit

Connect the indoor unit to the outdoor unit using the bundled connection lines.

Connect Outdoor Unit to Disconnect Box

Connect the outdoor unit to the disconnect box with the electrical whip. Refer to wiring diagrams for specific connections.

Step 11: Connect Line Sets to Outdoor Unit

Connect the liquid (smaller) line and the suction (larger) line from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit. Use Nylog sealant, a wrench, and a torque wrench for connections.

Step 12: Pressure Test and Vacuum

Spray all joints with a soapy water solution and look for bubbles. If no bubbles are present, pull a vacuum down to 500 microns or lower.

After a successful pressure test and vacuum, reconnect the back corner of the cabinet of the indoor unit. Access the service port.

Step 13: Charge Refrigerant (If Necessary)

[Warning: Refrigerant handling should be done by a trained professional.]

Add refrigerant if the line set used is more than 25 feet in length:

Use a 5mm allen wrench (hex key) to fully open the lower valve, then the upper valve, releasing the refrigerant into the system. Replace valve caps over open valves.

Step 14: Power Up and Test

Power up and start the system.
