With support for dual-band concurrent Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax) on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, the OWA0131 acts as a powerful and future-proof companion access point. It extends the main gateway's coverage, improving the in-home user experience and increasing overall throughput.
Wi-Fi 6 Technology
Wi-Fi 6 represents a significant evolution in wireless connectivity, enhancing gigabit-service delivery and providing reliable connections for a large number of devices. It's the first major upgrade for the 2.4 GHz band since Wi-Fi 4. While maintaining similar data rates to Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 improves signal robustness, accommodates more devices, and allows for better sharing of the wireless channel.
Key advancements include higher maximum data rates through advanced modulation (up to 1024 QAM vs. Wi-Fi 5's 256 QAM). It significantly lowers latency, reducing delay times for data transmission, which benefits applications like online gaming by improving load times and preventing disconnects. Wi-Fi 6 also includes mechanisms for reducing interference between neighboring routers, enhancing service quality in high-density Wi-Fi areas. The Target Wake Time (TWT) feature allows access points to put client Wi-Fi radios into a sleep mode until needed, conserving power and extending battery life.

Leapfrogging Performance
Equipped with a System on Chip (SoC) featuring a next-generation 1.5 GHz triple-core ARMv7 processor (8.5k DMIPS), the OWA0131 surpasses current extender performance. Combined with an increased Level 2 cache, this smart extender is ideal for running multiple demanding applications and services, including Wi-Fi services, security services, deep packet inspection, and powerful encryption algorithms simultaneously.
Flexible & Future-Proof Software Stack
The OWA0131 is powered by HOMEWARE, a reliable and managed middleware developed by Technicolor. This enables operator customers to access a thriving ecosystem of partners, bringing innovative services to subscribers.
HOMEWARE is open, built on Open Source Software extended for carrier-grade use. It is apps-ready, with a dedicated SDK allowing Network Service Providers (NSPs) to generate new services and improve Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) by integrating third-party applications. It also pre-integrates Technicolor's partner apps (via the Technicolor HERO Program) and offers full Application Life Cycle Management for improved broadband service availability by decoupling application upgrades and maintenance from the extender core software.
HOMEWARE is secure, featuring an overall software architecture with end-to-end security by design, from bootup to application installation via life cycle management.
HOMEWARE is interoperable, working with multiple network components. This allows for a shorter time to market and greater freedom for service providers to choose network components or deploy in multi-vendor environments. It also reduces complexity by providing a single software stack capable of handling diverse environments.
Highest Security
The OWA0131 supports robust wireless security mechanisms, including Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA, WPA2, and WPA3), along with the secure and user-friendly Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) connection and configuration mechanism for wireless clients.
Additionally, the OWA0131 supports multiple wireless networks (mSSID), allowing operators to set up independent virtual wireless access points, including controlled wireless hotspots. These additional networks enable other wireless users to enjoy high-performance access without compromising the integrity of the basic network, ensuring the original network access remains limited and secure.
USB 2.0 Port (Optional)
The OWA0131 is optionally available with a high-speed USB 2.0 master port to support devices such as IoT devices or other USB-connected services.
