Before Installation
Requirements
Verify TV and mount space meet these criteria:
- Screen Size: 44" to 80" (Diagonally)
- Mantel Depth: 18" MAXIMUM
- Wood Studs for Mounting: Studs Maximum 32" apart; Wall Covering Maximum 5/8"
- Weight Capacity: 20 to 90 LBS. (Including Sound Bar)
- VESA Compliant: Width: 200-700mm, Height: 100-500mm
Verify MantelMount will fit the wall space by measuring:
- Wall Space Height (Distance from mantel to ceiling/crown moulding)
- TV Height (Include sound bar height if placing below TV)
- Mantel Depth (Distance mantel extends away from the wall)
- Calculate Required Vertical Space: (Formula based on Mantel Depth and TV Height)
If Required Vertical Space is less than or equal to Wall Space Height, MantelMount will fit.

Installation Steps
STEP 1: Attach Braces to TV
1.1 Test-fit Brace components on back of TV. Place TV screen-side down on a flat, blanketed surface. Lay out components to check assembly configuration. If installing a sound bar, refer to STEP 1.8.
1.2 Determine if TV has a flat or irregular back. An irregular back will require Spacers {12} and longer Screws to fill spaces between the Vertical Brace {31} and the TV. The Braces must be parallel to the television screen.

1.3 Select Screws and Spacers. If Spacers {12} are required, choose one of the Screw combinations shown, using the maximum number of Spacers indicated for each VESA size (M5, M6, M8).

1.4 Hand-thread screw combination into the TV. Ensure there is adequate thread engagement without hitting the bottom of the threaded insert. CAUTION: Do not use screws that are too long for the TV's threaded inserts as it may damage internal components!
1.5 Attach the Vertical Braces to the back of TV. Install the Vertical Braces {31} so that their bottoms are between 3" to 10" from the bottom of the TV, centering the braces vertically as much as possible. Note: If installing with a MantelMount RB100 Recess Box, the bottom of the Vertical Brace must be 7"-10" from the bottom of the TV.

1.6 If the lower VESA holes are less than 3" from the bottom of the TV: Connect the Vertical Braces {31} through the UPPER VESA holes only. You must attach the Brace Extenders {30} to the Vertical Braces as described in STEP 1.7, and also attach the LOWER VESA hole through the Brace Extender as shown.

1.7 Attach the Horizontal Brace to Brace Extenders. Slide one Brace Extender {30} onto each end of the Horizontal Brace {55}. Align the Brace Extenders with the Vertical Braces {31} (already mounted to the TV) and position the Horizontal Brace so it extends equally on both sides. Attach Horizontal Brace to Brace Extenders with Screws {15}.

1.8 OPTIONAL: If installing a sound bar, attach the Sound Bar Wings. Use Screws {15} and Nuts {23} to attach the Sound Bar Wings {59} to the Horizontal Brace {55}. Position the Wings to fit the mounting holes of the sound bar. Arrange Sound Bar Wings and sound bar to work with the Heat-Sensing Center Handle {53}. The Wings may be positioned and rotated so the Center Handle will reach below the sound bar.

1.9 Attach Brace Extenders to the Vertical Braces. Slide the Brace Extenders {30} (with the Horizontal Brace {55} attached) onto the Vertical Braces {31}. Position so the Horizontal Brace will be hidden by the TV. Use Screws {18} and Nuts {23} to attach.

1.10 Attach Heat-Sensing Center Handle to Horizontal Brace. Attach the Center Handle {53} with Screws {15} to the Horizontal Brace {55}, ensuring the Handle is within one inch from the bottom of the TV or sound bar.

Protect the TV with Heat-Sensing Handle: The patented Heat-Sensing Handle turns red if the temperature above the fireplace exceeds a safe 110°F, indicating the TV needs to be raised or the fireplace turned off. Instructions for lowering the TV using the Handle are provided (Three-Step Pull Down Technique).
STEP 2: Determine Wall Placement
2.1 Measure the distance from the bottom of the Vertical Braces {31} (not the Extenders) to the bottom of the TV/sound bar.

2.2 Determine the minimum vertical position of the Wall Plate. Use the Look-up Table below to find the minimum distance between the mantel and the bottom of the lower Wall Plate {32}. This is determined by the distance measured in STEP 2.1 and the mantel depth.

Note: If installing with a MantelMount RB100 Recess Box, the bottom of the Vertical Brace must be 7"-10" from the bottom of the TV.
Most customers mount the TV as close to the mantel as possible. If this is your preference, proceed to STEP 2.4. If you want the TV higher on the wall (e.g., centered between mantel and ceiling), continue to STEP 2.3.
2.3 OPTIONAL: Determine a higher vertical position of the Wall Plate. This option is for customers who want the TV centered between the mantel and ceiling, or to allow space below the TV for pictures or a center speaker.
Option 1: Centered between mantel and ceiling/crown moulding.
Option 2: Specific distance above the mantel.
Calculation Description: Provides two calculation methods. For Option 1: (A) Wall Space Height - (B) TV Height = (D), then (C) Distance from STEP 2.1 + (D) = (E) Inches above mantel for lower Wall Plate holes. For Option 2: (C) Distance from STEP 2.1 + (D) = (E) Inches above mantel for lower Wall Plate holes.
2.4 Find the center of your mantel and the centers of two studs. Measure and mark the center line of the mantel onto the wall. Use a stud finder to locate two studs, one on each side of the centerline. Mark the center spots on the wall at the height determined in STEP 2.2 or 2.3. Lag Bolts must be installed into the CENTER of the studs.

2.5 Determine the positioning of the Wall Plates. Position the LOWER SLOTS of the Template at the appropriate distance from the mantel. Use a level to orient the Template. Mark the center of the four slots along the stud center marks. Correctly orient a loose Wall Plate {32} to the LOWER hole markings (slots down) and then the UPPER holes (slots up). Check for centering over the mantel and clearance. If no issues, skip to STEP 3.1. Otherwise, proceed to STEP 2.6.

2.6 Adjust Wall Plate Positioning.
A. Slide the Wall Plates {32} sideways on the wall until they reach two studs. The Lifting Arm {35} can slide within the Wall Plates to center the TV over the mantel. Mark the center line of the wall onto the Wall Plates. Ensure correct orientation of UPPER and LOWER Wall Plates.
B. If necessary, move Wall Plates to clear an outlet or other obstruction. Wall Plates can be moved left/right or up/down as long as they remain attached to studs and within the calculated vertical positions. If Wall Plates are moved vertically, adjust the Vertical Braces {31} on the TV by the same amount.

STEP 3: Attach Mount to Wall
3.1 Attach Lifting Arm to Wall Plates. If proceeding from STEP 2.5, attach the Lifting Arm {35} directly to the centers of the Wall Plates {32}. If from STEP 2.6, align the center of the Lifting Arm to the marks on the Wall Plates, ensuring correct orientation. Install four bolts {14} through the back channels of the Wall Plates into the threaded holes of the Lifting Arm. Tighten securely.

3.2 Verify positioning of the mount with stud(s). Align the mount to the lower marked spots on the wall and verify the upper hole locations. Fine-tune upper marks if necessary. If the Lifting Arm blocks a Wall Plate hole, temporarily install the Wall Plates with Lag Bolts {17} to access the hole for the Safety Bolt (STEP 4.1), then remove and reinstall the mount in the desired position.

3.3 Drill four pilot holes. Use a 7/32" drill bit to a depth of 2.5" (65mm), including wall covering. Wall covering (drywall) must not exceed 5/8" thickness.

3.4 Attach the Wall Plates and Lifting Arm (the "mount") onto the wall. Install Lag Bolts {17} with Washers {11} through the Wall Plate {32} holes, directly into the center of the studs, using the pilot holes. Tighten firmly against the Wall Plate. WARNING: Do not over-tighten Lag Bolts; it can cause property damage or injury. Tighten only until the washers are firmly against the Wall Plate.

3.5 Insert Cable Tie Anchors into Lifting Arm. Insert two Cable Tie Anchors {22} into the front holes on the lower part of the Lifting Arm {35}. Press firmly until flat.

3.6 Use the included Cable Ties to attach cables. Ensure Cable Ties {24} are sideways to the lower part of the Lifting Arm {35}, making a gentle loop. Cables must be long enough to accommodate the extension and swivel of the mount. Check all ranges of motion before tightening.

3.7 Attach the TV Brace to the Lifting Arm. Hang the TV Brace {33} onto the Lifting Arm {35} and ensure it's level when tightening the four Leveling Screws {15}.

STEP 4: Attach TV to Mount
CAUTION: Do not damage or scratch the rods of the Gas Springs while performing these steps!
WARNING: Do not put hands into Lifting Arm without the Safety Bolt and Safety Nut installed. The force of the Lifting Arm can cause bodily injury!
4.1 Insert the Safety Bolt and Safety Nut. Use body weight to pull down the TV Brace {33} until the Lifting Arm {35} is horizontal. A second person must insert the Safety Bolt {20} through the Safety Hole in the base of the Lifting Arm and install the Safety Nut {27}. Slowly release the TV Brace until the Lifting Arm rests against the Safety Bolt. The Lifting Arm should remain horizontal. The Safety Bolt will be removed in STEP 5.4.

4.2 Carefully hang the TV on the TV Brace. Ensure all hooks on the Vertical Braces {31} engage the TV Brace {33}. If the Lifting Arm {35} appears too close to the mantel, remove the TV and adjust the Bottom Stop positions (STEP 5.3). Do not allow the TV to drop far enough to hit the mantel.

4.3 Center and level the TV on the TV Brace. Ensure the center of the brace aligns with the center of the TV before leveling. Move the TV sideways up to a MAXIMUM of 2 inches to level it. If the TV is level but off-center, remove it and relocate the Wall Plates {32} to compensate. Refer to "TV Leveling" in Troubleshooting for additional help.

4.4 Attach the TV Brace to the Vertical Braces. Install four Screws {15} through the TV Brace {33} and into the Vertical Braces {31}.

4.5 Attach the electrical and signal cables to the TV. Ensure cables have extra length to avoid stress or kinks when the mount moves. Ensure cables do not get pinched within the Lifting Arm when the TV is raised.
STEP 5: Make Final Adjustments
5.1 Adjust the Lifting Force for the TV. With Safety Bolt {20} in place, use a 10-14mm socket wrench to adjust the Tension Bolt {41} (inside the Lifting Arm {35}). Turn clockwise for heavier TVs to increase lifting force; counterclockwise for lighter TVs. Adjust until the TV gently stays in the lowered position and almost stays up against the Safety Bolt. Be patient, as Gas Springs {38} move slowly. CAUTION: Do not adjust the Tension Bolt all the way to the bottom.

5.2 Adjust the Side Swivel Stop positions, if necessary. Loosen Locknuts {23} and adjust Swivel Stop Screws to set the desired left and right stopping positions to prevent the TV from bumping the mantel or wall. Tighten Locknuts after adjustments.

5.3 Adjust the Bottom Stop positions and level the TV, if necessary. Loosen Locknuts {23} and adjust Bottom Stop screws to set the desired stopping position to prevent the TV from hitting the mantel or dropping too low. Tighten Locknuts. Place a level on the TV; if unleveled in the DOWN position, adjust one bottom stop screw until level.

5.4 Remove the Safety Bolt and Safety Nut. Store these parts for future use (e.g., removing the TV). WARNING: Never release the handle before the TV mount is fully upright. Do not let it slam up, as this can damage televisions. Always control the lifting process.

5.5 Verify the proper Lifting Performance (Force). MantelMount is designed to keep the TV securely in the UP position and gently rest in the DOWN position. If adjustments are needed, reinsert the Safety Bolt and repeat STEP 5.1. For refining performance, refer to "Mount Performance" in Troubleshooting.

5.6 Make Post-Leveling adjustments, if necessary. Place a level on top of the TV while it's in the UP position. If level, installation is complete. If not, slightly loosen all four Leveling Screws {15}, rotate the TV until level, then tighten Screws.

5.7 Install the Wall Plate Covers. Use a Hole Saw to cut a hole through a Wall Cover {57} for wiring. Paint the covers if desired. Snap them onto the Wall Plates {32}.

NOTE: In rare cases, one adjustment may require another. Be prepared for trial and error.
Mount Space Issues
- Issue: The wall covering is made of brick or stone.
Solution: Possible to install using concrete anchors of the same size as Lag Bolts {17} if brick/stone is firm and at least 1.5" deep. Consult a masonry professional for uneven stone. Contact Customer Support for guidance. - Issue: The drywall/stucco wall covering is thicker than 5/8".
Solution: Please contact Customer Support for guidance before attempting installation. - Issue: A single wood stud is centered on my wall.
Solution: Mount Wall Plates to a single stud using two Lag Bolts {17} into the center stud, ensuring the Lifting Arm is positioned directly in front of the stud. Alternatively, use the SSB40 Single Stud Adapter (available at MantelMount.com).
Mount Performance
(May require trial and error to reach optimal performance.)
- Issue: The Lifting Arm won't pull down to insert the Safety Bolt.
Solution: It requires force when no TV is attached. Ensure the TV Brace is attached to the Lifting Arm (Step 3.7). Pull the Lifting Arm down using leverage (see Step 4.1 description). - Issue: TV is difficult to pull down.
Solution: Use the MantelMount Three-Step Pull-Down Technique. If still difficult, make slight counterclockwise adjustments to the Lifting Force (Step 5.1). Goal: adjust force for comfortable pull-down without overcompensation. - Issue: TV is difficult to lift up.
Solution: If easy to pull down, slightly tighten the Lifting Force (Step 5.1) with minor clockwise adjustments. Goal: adjust force for comfortable lift without overcompensation. If balance is difficult, prioritize ease of pull-down and adjust Bottom Stops (Step 5.3) to limit downward travel. - Issue: The mount won't remain stationary anywhere along the route of travel.
Solution: Make adjustments to the Lifting Force (Step 5.1). TV size/weight, installation height, and mantel depth affect resting positions. The primary goal is comfortable pull-down/lift-up and stopping at optimal viewing height. To allow lower travel, remove Bottom Stop Screws (Step 5.3), but be cautious of hitting the mantel. - Issue: TV is tilting forward when in the UP position.
Solution: Lifting Force is likely not set tight enough. Slightly turn the Tension Bolt clockwise (Step 5.1). Goal: adjust force so TV no longer tilts in UP position, without making it too difficult to lower.
TV Leveling
- Issue: TV is not level in the UP and/or DOWN positions.
Possible Cause: Mantel, ceiling, or floor may not be level; Vertical Braces aren't evenly attached; Wall Plates aren't level.
How to Check: Compare TV level with mantel/floor; check Vertical Brace parallelism; use a level on Wall Plates.
Solution: Adjust until satisfactory. For uneven braces/plates, detach TV Brace, remove TV, reposition braces/plates to be parallel/level, reattach, and repeat leveling steps (Steps 4.3, 5.3, 5.6). - Issue: TV is level in the UP position, but unleveled in the DOWN position.
Possible Cause: Bottom Stops aren't evenly set or TV is heavier on one side.
Solution: Adjust Bottom Stops (Step 5.3). If unresolved, attach a counterweight (contact Customer Support). - Issue: TV is level in the DOWN position, but unleveled in the UP position.
Possible Cause: Post-Leveling Adjustments haven't been made.
Solution: Refer to Step 5.6 and make adjustments.
