Installation Instructions

Compact Window Mounting (12,000~14,000 BTU)

INSTALLATION WARNINGS AND CAUTION

  • The unit is for window mounting only.
  • Carefully read the installation manual before beginning.
  • Follow each step as shown.
  • Observe all local, state, and national electrical codes and by qualified, licensed, authorized personnel only.
  • Pay attention to danger and safety notices.
  • To avoid risk of personal injury, property damage, or product damage due to the weight of this device and sharp edges that may be exposed:
  • Air conditioners covered in this manual pose an excessive weight hazard. Two or more people are needed to move and install the unit.
  • Wear protective gloves whenever lifting or carrying the unit.
  • AVOID the sharp metal fins of front and rear coils.
  • To prevent injury or strain, use proper lifting and carrying techniques when moving unit.
  • Carefully inspect location where air conditioner will be installed. Be sure it will support the weight of the unit over an extended period of time.
  • Handle air conditioner with care.
  • Make sure air conditioner does not fall during installation.

NOTE:

  • SAVE CARTON and these INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for future reference. The carton is the best way to store unit during winter, or when not in use.
  • DO NOT USE ANY SCREWS OTHER THAN THOSE SPECIFIED HERE.
  • WHERE APPLICABLE, THE TOP RAIL MUST BE SECURELY FASTENED WITH ALL FOUR (4) SCREWS FOR SAFETY REASONS.

Top Rail Assembly

The top rail on your unit may already be installed. If not, follow the steps below.

Top Rail Hardware

3/8" Screw4
Top Rail1

TOOLS NEEDED

  • Philips Screwdriver
  • Drill (If pilot holes are needed)

Before installing, the top rail must be assembled on the unit.

A. Remove the air conditioner from the carton and place on a flat surface.

B. Remove top rail from the rear of the packaging material.

C. Align the hole in the top rail with those on the top of the unit.

D. Secure the top rail to the unit with the 3/8" Screws.

Figure A shows removing the top rail from packaging. Figure B shows aligning the top rail holes with the unit's top. Figure C shows securing the top rail with 3/8" screws.

LEFT + RIGHT FILLER PANEL ASSEMBLY

NOTE: Top Rail and Side Panels at each side are offset to provide the proper pitch to the rear of (5/16"). This is necessary for proper condensed water utilization and drainage. If you are not using the Side Panels for any reason, this pitch to the rear must be maintained!

Place unit on floor, a bench or a table. There is a Left and Right side Filler Panels - be sure to use the proper panel for each side. When installed, the flange for securing the panel in place to the window sill will be facing into the room.

A. Hold the side Panel in one hand and gently pull back the center to free the open end.

B. Slide the free end "T" section of the panel directly into the cabinet. Slide the panel down. Be sure to leave enough space to slip the top and bottom of the frame into the rails on the cabinet.

C. Once the panel has been installed on the side of the cabinet, make sure it sits securely inside the frame channel by making slight adjustments. Slide the top and bottom ends of the frame into the top and bottom rails of the cabinet.

D. Slide the panel all the way in and repeat on the other side.

Figure 1 illustrates pulling the side panel to free the open end. Figure 2 shows sliding the "T" section of the panel into the cabinet. Figure 3 depicts sliding the panel frame into the top and bottom rails.

Your air conditioner is designed to install in standard double hung windows with opening widths of 25 to 36 inches (635mm to 914 mm). The lower sash must open sufficiently to allow a clear vertical opening of 15-1/2 inches (394 mm).

Figure 4A illustrates a wooden window installation, showing the required 25-36 inch width and 15.5-inch vertical opening. Figure 4B illustrates a vinyl-clad window installation with similar dimensions.

Side louvers and the rear of the air conditioner must have clear air space to allow enough airflow through the condenser, for heat removal. The rear of the unit must be outdoors, not inside a building or garage. There should be at least 11.8 inches (300mm) clearance around the unit.

Figures 4C and 4D show the required minimum 11.8-inch (300mm) clearance around the unit for proper airflow, indicating outdoor and indoor sides.

Storm Window

If the air conditioner is blocked by a Storm Window, add wood as shown in FIG. 5, or remove the storm window before air conditioner is installed.

If the Storm Window Frame must remain, be sure the drain holes or slots are not caulked or painted shut. Accumulated Rain Water or Condensation must be allowed to drain out.

Figure 5 illustrates adjusting for a storm window, showing a board thickness needed for proper rear pitch, fastened with nails or screws.

Placing the Unit

Keep a firm grip on the air conditioner, carefully place the unit into the window opening so the bottom of the air conditioner frame is against the window sill. Carefully close the window behind the top rail of the unit.

Figure 6A shows placing the unit into a wooden window opening, with the bottom frame against the sill. Figure 6B shows the same for a vinyl-clad window.

Extending Side Panels

Extend the side panels out against the window frame.

Figure 7A shows extending side panels against a wooden window frame. Figure 7B shows the same for a vinyl-clad window frame.

Frame Lock Installation

Place the frame lock between the frame extensions and the window sill.

Figure 8A shows placing the frame lock between frame extensions and the sill for wooden windows. Figure 8B shows the same for vinyl-clad windows.

Drive Locking Screws

For wooden windows: Drive 1/2" (12.7 mm) locking screws through the frame lock and into the sill. NOTE: To prevent window sill from splitting, drill 1/8" (3mm) pilot holes before driving screws.

For Vinyl-Clad windows: Drive 1/2" (12.7 mm) locking screws through the frame lock and into the window sash. NOTE: Before driving the screws, use a drill to drill 5 holes through the holes in the frame lock and frame extensions into the windows sash.

Figure 9A illustrates driving 1/2" locking screws through the frame lock into the sill for wooden windows. Figure 9B illustrates driving 1/2" locking screws through the frame lock and extensions into the window sash for vinyl-clad windows.

Secure Lower Sash

To secure lower sash in place, attach right angle sash lock with 1/2" (12.7mm) screw. NOTE: It is difficult to lock the windows with the sash lock for Vinyl-Clad windows, so you can use lock by window itself.

Figure 10 shows attaching an angle right sash lock with a 1/2" screw to secure the lower sash.

Foam Window Seal

Cut foam window seal and insert it into the space between the upper and lower sashes.

Figure 11 shows cutting and inserting foam window seal into the space between upper and lower sashes.

Tilt Adjustment

Check that air conditioner is tilted back about 1/4" to 1/2" (tilted about 2° to 4° downward to the outside). After proper installation, condensate should not drain from the overflow drain hole during normal use, correct the slope otherwise.

Figures 12A and 12B illustrate checking the unit's tilt, showing the required 1/4" to 1/2" downward slope to the outside.

Minimizing Air Leaks

In order to minimize air leaks between the room air conditioner and the window opening, suitable weather stripping (trim the provided weather stripping into suitable size) should be applied in case of any gaps found at the location as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 13.

Figure 13 indicates applying weather stripping to minimize air leaks between the air conditioner and the window opening.

Removing the Air Conditioner From Window

  • Turn the air conditioner off, and disconnect power cord.
  • Remove sash seal from between windows, and unscrew sash lock.
  • Remove screws installed through frame and framelock.
  • Close (slide) side panels into frame.
  • Keeping a firm grip on air conditioner, raise sash and carefully remove.
  • Be careful not to spill any condensate water while lifting unit from window. Store parts WITH air conditioner.
