Model 1714 Headphone Demonstration Amplifier with Volume Control

Introduction

The Model 1714 is designed to provide high-fidelity headphone amplification and volume control for self-service retail demonstration. All outputs are active simultaneously, and volume is adjusted individually for each output.

Package Contents

Before installing this product, please check the packaging and ensure the following items are contained in the shipping carton:

Note: Please retain the original packing material in case the unit must be returned. If any items are missing, contact Audio Authority immediately. Have the Model Number and Invoice available for reference when you call.

Features

Audio Source

Connect a music player to the AUDIO INPUT jack.

Note: Make sure the volume on the player is turned all the way up and is not accessible to customers.

Volume Control (Encoder Knob)

To control volume using a volume knob, connect a four-conductor encoder, such as Audio Authority's Model 1794, to the four-pin encoder port at each position. Pushing the knob mutes the audio.

Description of visual: The Audio Authority Model 1794 encoder is a rotary knob designed for volume control. It connects via a four-conductor cable. Pushing the knob activates the mute function.

Volume Control (Up and Down Buttons)

To control volume using push-buttons, connect four-conductor momentary switches to each position's up and down port. Compatible push-buttons are available from Audio Authority. Mute functionality is not available when using push-buttons.

Description of visual: A product select push-button is shown, typically used for controlling volume up or down.

Front Panel Layout and Controls

The front panel of the Model 1714 features various inputs, outputs, and controls:

Description of visual: A diagram of the amplifier's front panel shows the arrangement of all inputs, outputs, and controls, including power connections, audio connections, headphone outputs, illuminated volume control buttons, and rotary dials for timeout and volume limits. The model number 701-16700 is printed on the panel.

Volume Reset and Timeout Interval

All outputs return to the default volume after a period of inactivity (the timeout interval). The timeout interval is set by the TIMEOUT dial, in increments of 15 seconds. If the timeout switch is set to 0, the demonstration does not time out. Each time a customer adjusts the volume, the timeout resets.

Volume Limits and Default Volume

Set volume attenuation limits using the VOLUME MINIMUM and VOLUME MAXIMUM dials. These may be adjusted from low (0) to high (9) volume level. DEFAULT VOLUME selects the level of volume at initial power-up and between demonstrations.

Audio Bus Out

The audio BUS OUTPUT feeds the currently selected audio input (MUSIC PLAYER) to other 1714 modules in the system. Do not connect headphones to this output. Connect a 3.5mm patch cord from the first 1714 bus output to the second 1714 player input, etc.

Power

Connect the included 12V power supply to the Power Input. Connect a 5.5 mm jumper cable to other 1714 units if desired.

Operation

On power-up, the POWER light illuminates to show normal operation. VOLUME DOWN/UP buttons (if installed) light up when pressed and released. Press VOLUME DOWN/UP to control volume. The rotary VOLUME knob increases volume with clockwise rotation within volume limits. The push-in function activates mute/un-mute, and rotating the knob also un-mutes the audio.
