1. Warnings and Cautions

Note:

1.1 Optional Accessories (Sold Separately)

Available accessories include a 12V/1A power extension cord and bird spikes.

Note: Batteries (2x AA) for the sensor package are not included. They are primarily for startup and backup power. The unit operates from its solar cell during normal operation after setup.

Note: The 7-in-1 sensor package body has a built-in heat plate. If the ambient temperature drops below -3°C (26.6°F) and the weather is snowy or rainy, an external 12V/1A power supply may be needed to activate the heater to melt accumulated snow or ice, which could otherwise affect wind measurements.

For information on the extension cord, please contact support@ecowitt.com.

1.2 Features

Note: A built-in thermostat controls the heat plate power supply. It automatically turns on below 0°C (30°F) and turns off above 10°C (50°F).

2. Overview

The sensor package is a multi-component unit designed for environmental monitoring.

Sensor Package Assembly Components

The main sensor unit includes:

A separate diagram shows the North direction indicator on the sensor housing.

3. Setup Guide

3.1 Install Batteries in Sensor Package

To install batteries:

  1. Open the battery compartment using a screwdriver.
  2. Insert 2 AA batteries, observing correct polarity.
  3. Press the "Reset" button. The LED indicator on the back of the sensor package will illuminate for 3 seconds, then flash approximately every 8.8 seconds to indicate successful data transmission.

If you miss the initial indication, you can press the reset button again to restart the process. Ensure the LED flashes every 8.8 seconds.

Note: If the sensor has been exposed to sunlight and the solar panel has charged the internal accumulator, installing backup batteries might prevent proper startup. In such cases, perform a system reset by pressing the "Reset" button.

Note: Ensure batteries are inserted with correct polarity, as the system requires initial power from these backup batteries before the solar panel can fully charge the system.

For cold weather climates, Lithium batteries are recommended. Avoid alkaline batteries, especially when the internal heater is active in cold and wet conditions, as trapped heat can cause internal warming and potential leakage from alkaline batteries.

3.2 Mount Ultrasonic Anemometer with Piezoelectric Assembly

3.2.1 Before You Mount

Before permanently installing the outdoor sensor, it is recommended to operate the device for one week in a temporary, easily accessible location. This allows for function testing, verification of proper operation, and familiarization with the device's performance.

3.2.2 Mounting

The sensor package can be attached to a pole (not included), which is then secured to a permanent structure.

The mounting hole is designed to accommodate a pole with a diameter of 1.0 inch.

Ensure the mounting pole is installed vertically, using a level if necessary.

If an optional extension cord is used, connect it to the sensor's connector and plug the USB end into the AC adapter.

Align the sensor package in the correct direction by rotating it on top of the mounting pipe. Locate the arrow labeled "NORTH" on the sensor package (item 6). Rotate the entire sensor package until this arrow points due north. A compass (available on many smartphones) can assist with this alignment.

Note: In the Southern Hemisphere, it is not necessary to orient the sensor to face South, as the rounded solar panel is orientation-free for charging capability.

Verify that the mounting tube for the sensor package is installed vertically. Adjust the mounting pipe as needed. Ensure the anemometer body is mounted level on the pipe; an unlevel mount can lead to inaccurate wind direction and speed readings.

As a final step, re-check and correct the north orientation if necessary. Then, tighten the mounting bolts securely, ensuring strong winds or rain cannot dislodge the sensor package, but avoid over-tightening.

3.2.3 Reset Button and Transmitter LED

If the sensor package is not transmitting data, perform a reset. Use a bent paperclip to press and hold the RESET BUTTON (item 12). The LED will turn on while the button is held and will resume normal flashing approximately once every 8.8 seconds after the button is released.
