  6. Never reach between, through, or around the fence to operate the gate.
  7. Do not connect a button station within reach of the gate or on the side of the operator.
  8. Do not adjust the operator's current sensing feature too high. It should be set just high enough to prevent false triggers while ensuring proper operation. DO NOT DEFEAT THIS FUNCTION.
  9. Install all required safety equipment.
  10. UL325 Compliance requires contact edges or photoelectric controls on all automatic or remotely-controlled gate operators.
  11. The operator is intended for vehicle gates only. Pedestrians must use a separate access opening designed for pedestrian usage. Ensure persons cannot come into contact with the vehicular gate during its entire path of travel.

Wiring Specifications

WARNING: ALL AC ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS MUST BE MADE BY A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN AND MUST OBSERVE ALL NATIONAL AND LOCAL ELECTRICAL CODES.

Use copper wire only.

AC Power Wiring

Refer to the provided tables for power and accessory wiring details. Ensure the distance from the operator to the power source does not exceed the maximum distance specified for the wire gauge. Calculations are based on standard 115V and 230V supplies with a 10% drop allowance.

DC Control and Accessory Wiring

Mounting Pad Installation

The gate operator mounts to posts secured in concrete footings. Posts support the operator and prevent movement during operation. For optional pad mounting, refer to Linear drawing #2700-360.

Gate Preparation

Ensure the gate rolls or slides freely and all exposed rollers are covered. The gate must be covered with fabric with openings no larger than 2-1/4" in size, to a minimum height of 72" above ground. For picket-style gates, if pickets are spaced less than 2-1/4” apart, mesh is optional.

Mounting Specifications

Use two 3" - 3-1/2" OD galvanized posts secured with concrete footings. The length of the posts should be determined by local codes, frost line depth, and soil conditions.

Attach the operator using the provided U-bolts, side plates, and hardware. Four 3/16" side plates go on the outside top and bottom, two 1/2" side plates go on the inside top, and two 3/16" side plates go on the inside bottom.

Ensure the drive chain sag does not exceed recommended sizes and that the chain does not contact moving parts of the gate or ground. Allow approximately 1/4" to 3/8" of slack per foot of drive chain.

WARNING: The operator is intended for vehicle gates only. Pedestrians must use a separate access opening. Ensure persons do not come into contact with the vehicular gate during its travel.

WARNING: Ensure sufficient clearance between the gate and adjacent structures to reduce entrapment risk.

WARNING: The gate must be installed and operate freely in both directions before installing the operator. Do not adjust force settings to compensate for an improperly installed gate.

Gate Bracket and Chain Assembly

Assemble a gate bracket to the front edge of the gate using two U-bolts and mounting hardware. Ensure the bracket is parallel to the gate before tightening. Use square head bolts to secure the bracket to the gate plate.

Slide a threaded chain pin through the bracket, followed by a spring, flat washer, and two hex nuts. Attach one end of the drive chain to the chain pin using a master link, and unroll the chain toward the operator.

Remove the rain cover from the operator. Thread the drive chain under the first idler, over the drive sprocket, and under the last idler. Ensure most of the chain is threaded through before attaching it to the back end of the gate.

Assemble the other gate bracket on the rear edge of the gate similarly. Attach the other chain pin, spring, and jam nuts to the end of the drive chain with another master link.

Adjust chain tension by tightening the jam nuts. Allow approximately 1/4" to 3/8" of slack per foot of drive chain. Ensure the chain does not drag on the ground, rollers, or idler frame.

Operator Setup

Controller Access

To remove the plastic dust cover (single phase models only), loosen the wing-screw and lift the cover off.

Manual Disconnect

The manual disconnect shifter lever and locking lever are located at the center bottom of the operator cabinet. To disconnect for manual operation, pull the shifter lever towards you until the locking lever snaps into place. This disengages the drive mechanism. To re-engage, move the locking lever to the right.

AC Power Connection

WARNING: ALL AC ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS MUST BE MADE BY A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN AND MUST OBSERVE ALL NATIONAL AND LOCAL ELECTRICAL CODES.

Follow wiring specifications on Page 2. Connect incoming power to the labeled pigtails from the disconnect box. A wiring connections print is located inside the operator cover.

The operator motor has a thermal overload protector that resets automatically after cooling down.

Earth Ground

Install a ground rod and connect it to the operator's frame. A good earth ground is essential for the Controller's surge and lightning protection circuitry. Physical bolting alone is not sufficient.

Open and Close Limit Adjustment

Limit nuts are not preset and must be adjusted for each installation. They activate limit switches via a threaded limit shaft.

REMOVE CARDBOARD FILLER BEFORE ADJUSTING LIMIT NUTS.

CAUTION: If installing in a left-hand configuration, set the Controller to left-hand operation before setting limit nuts. Failure to do so may result in over-shooting and damage.

Limit Nuts Rough Adjustment

  1. With the gate in a mid-travel position, turn the power disconnect OFF. Disconnect the operator using the manual disconnect lever.
  2. Manually move the gate to within one foot of its fully open position.
  3. Adjust the OPEN limit nut until it activates the limit switch for open. Press down the detent plate and rotate the nut along the threaded shaft.
  4. Move the gate to one foot from fully closed and repeat for the CLOSE limit nut.

Limit Nuts Fine Adjustment

  1. Re-engage the operator using the disconnect handle.
  2. Turn the power disconnect switch ON.
  3. Press the OPEN button and observe the gate.
  4. Press the CLOSE button and observe the gate.
  5. Adjust the open or close limit nuts as necessary for precise stopping. Fine adjustments can be made by moving a few teeth at a time. If the gate stops during travel, adjust the Open or Close Current Setting or the Maximum Run Timer.

Torque Limiter Adjustments

Ensure the gate moves freely by hand before adjusting torque limiters. Torque limiters are set light from the factory and must be adjusted to prevent slipping during normal operation.

  1. Loosen the jam nut.
  2. To increase torque, turn the adjustment nut clockwise one flat (1/6 turn) at a time until desired output is obtained. To decrease torque, turn counterclockwise.
  3. Tighten the jam nut against the adjustment nut when finished.

Left or Right Hand Operation

The factory default is right-hand operation. For left-hand installations, program the controller for left-hand operation.

Dual Gate Enable

The factory default is single gate operation. For dual gate operation, wire the two controllers via the COMM LINK terminals and enable dual gate operation.

NOTE: Mid-travel Stop feature is disabled when dual gate operation is enabled.

Auto Close Timer

The factory default is OFF. The timer can be set from 1 to 59 seconds or 1 to 9 minutes. When set, the gate will automatically close after the specified delay.

Run Alarm and Pre-start Alarm

The factory default is Run Alarm ON and a 3-second Pre-start Alarm. The beeper sounds 3 seconds before the operator starts. Options include disabling these alarms or setting the pre-start alarm for 1-9 seconds.

Maximum Open Direction Current Setting

This setting detects obstacles by monitoring motor current. If the current exceeds the programmed maximum load range, the operator stops, reverses a short distance, and then stops again. The Auto Close Timer is disabled, requiring a new input to restart. If another obstruction occurs, the operator will lockout and sound an alarm.

Adjust the range number using the + and - buttons to set a minimal force (50-75 lbs.) for reversal, but high enough to prevent false triggers.

Maximum Close Direction Current Setting

Similar to the open direction setting, this monitors motor current during closing. If the current exceeds the programmed maximum, the operator stops, reverses to full open, and may lockout. A new close request is needed to restart.

Adjust the range number using the + and - buttons.

Advanced Controller Programming

Entering Advanced Programming Mode

Advanced Programming functions are available after enabling them. They remain accessible until the operator runs 50 cycles, after which they must be re-enabled.

Maximum Run Time

The factory default is 99 seconds. This timer stops the operator if a limit is not reached or an obstruction/reversing input is not received before the time expires, causing a lockout and alarm. Setting it too close to the actual run time can lead to premature expiration due to environmental factors.

Single Button Input Setup

Configures the operation for single button controls and radio receivers. The default cycles the operator: OPEN-STOP-CLOSE-STOP. Alternatively, it can be set to OPEN unless fully open, then CLOSE.

Stagger Mode

Used in dual gate installations. Sets one operator for delayed opening and the other for delayed closing. Requires the COMM LINK interface.

Stagger Delay Time

Sets the delay duration for Stagger Mode, from 1 to 99 seconds.

Auxiliary Relay Mode

Configures the auxiliary relay for functions like Maglock control, Ticket Dispenser, Strobe activation, or Alarm output.

Reverse Delay Time

Sets a delay (1-9 seconds) before the operator reverses direction after an obstruction or reversing input. Longer delays may be needed for heavier gates.

Brake Delay Time

Sets a delay (0-3 seconds) before the brake engages, allowing heavier gates to slow down before stopping.

Constant Pressure Mode

Allows setting the operator to require constant pressure on the OPEN, CLOSE, or both buttons to run. If the button is released before reaching a limit, the operator stops.

Shadow Loop Open Prevention

Prevents the gate from closing if the shadow loop is triggered. Can also be set to prevent opening if the shadow loop is triggered at the close limit.

Reset Cycle Count

Counts operator cycles. Press and hold ENTER for 2 seconds while the cycle count is displayed to reset it to zero. Resetting the cycle count also resets the Maintenance Alert indicator.

Maintenance Alert Trigger

Programmed to light after a set number of cycles (5, 10, 15, or 25 thousand). The Maintenance Cycle Count can be reset independently.

Mid-travel Stop Position

Allows the gate to stop at a mid-travel point instead of fully opening. Can be programmed for a specific open time (1-99 seconds).

NOTE: Mid-travel Stop is disabled in dual gate operation.
