BOSS TR-2 Tremolo Owner's Manual
Before using this unit, carefully read the sections entitled: "USING THE UNIT SAFELY" and "IMPORTANT NOTES" (supplied on a separate sheet). After reading, keep the document(s) where it will be available for immediate reference.
Main Features
- The TR-2 is an effect that periodically changes only the volume of the sound, without altering the tone.
- The Wave knob allows selection of delicate to rapid and extreme volume changes.
Panel Descriptions
DC IN jack
Accepts connection of an AC Adaptor (PSA series; sold separately). Using an AC Adaptor allows play without concern for battery power. It is recommended to keep batteries installed even when using an AC adaptor for uninterrupted performance if the AC cord is disconnected. Use only the specified AC adaptor (PSA-series). Power is drawn from the AC adaptor when connected.
CHECK indicator
Indicates effect ON/OFF and serves as the Battery Check indicator. The indicator lights when the effect is ON. If it becomes dim or does not light while the effect is ON, the battery is low and needs immediate replacement.
RATE knob
Adjusts the tremolo rate. Turning clockwise increases the speed.
WAVE knob
Controls the tremolo waveform, allowing for smooth to dramatic volume changes.
OUTPUT jack
Connect an amplifier to this jack.
Pedal Switch
Turns the effects ON/OFF. The CHECK indicator lights when the effect is ON.
Thumbscrew
Loosening this screw allows the pedal to open for battery changes. Refer to "Changing the Battery" for instructions.
INPUT jack
Accepts input signals from a guitar, musical instrument, or another effects unit. This jack also functions as the power switch. Power is ON when a cable is plugged in and OFF when unplugged. Disconnect the plug from the INPUT jack when not in use to prevent battery drain.
DEPTH knob
Adjusts the tremolo depth. No tremolo effect is produced when turned fully counterclockwise.
The unit features a compact pedal design with controls labeled: DC IN, CHECK, RATE, WAVE, DEPTH, OUTPUT, and INPUT. A Pedal Switch is located at the bottom. The unit is named "Tremolo TR-2 BOSS" and has a serial number "3089". Connections are shown from an Electric Guitar to the INPUT jack and from the OUTPUT jack to a Guitar Amplifier.
Precautions When Connecting
- Always turn down volume and turn off all units before making connections to prevent malfunction or equipment failure.
- Turn on devices in the specified order when powering up: guitar amp last. Turn off in reverse order: guitar amp first.
- Turn the volume down before turning the unit on/off. Some sound may be heard when switching, which is normal.
Operating the Unit
- Make necessary connections and set knobs as illustrated.
- Depress the pedal switch to turn the effect ON (CHECK indicator should light).
- Adjust the tremolo rate using the RATE knob.
- Adjust the tremolo depth using the DEPTH knob.
- Adjust the tremolo waveform using the WAVE knob.
Use of Battery
- The factory-installed battery is for testing and may have limited life.
- Observe all battery safety precautions listed in "USING THE UNIT SAFELY" and "IMPORTANT NOTES" to prevent explosion or fluid leakage.
- When operating on battery power, the indicator will dim when the battery is low; replace it promptly.
- Install or replace batteries before connecting other devices to prevent malfunction or damage.
Changing the Battery
- Hold the pedal down and loosen the thumbscrew to open the pedal upward. The thumbscrew does not need to be fully detached.
- Remove the old battery and its connected snap cord from the battery housing.
- Connect the snap cord to the new battery, observing correct polarity (+/-), and place it in the housing.
- Slip the coil spring onto the spring base at the back of the pedal, then close the pedal. Ensure the snap cord is not caught by the pedal, spring, or housing.
- Insert and securely fasten the thumbscrew into the guide bush hole.
The process involves loosening a thumbscrew to lift the pedal. Inside, a battery housing contains a 9V battery connected via a battery snap cord. A coil spring and spring base are also visible. The steps describe removing the old battery, connecting the new one (observing polarity), and reassembling the pedal, ensuring the cord is clear of moving parts.
