Updating Firmware on Your Ashly FX Series Amplifier
The FX Series amplifiers utilize embedded programs, known as firmware, to manage device operations. Ashly periodically releases firmware updates to enhance performance and introduce new features. It is advisable to review the firmware revision history to ascertain if an update will benefit your specific installation.
Associated Risks When Updating
Interrupting power to the FX unit during the firmware update process carries a risk of rendering the device inoperable. Power loss can lead to corruption of firmware files or programs, resulting in a loss of functionality or the inability to access the FX User Interface (UI) software. In such cases, the FX unit may require return to Ashly for restoration of the factory program. To mitigate this risk, ensure continuous power throughout the update process. For installations with unstable power, it is strongly recommended to connect the FX to an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) during firmware updates. Furthermore, using a Wi-Fi connection for firmware updates on FX Series amplifiers is not recommended; updating via a wired LAN connection is highly encouraged.
FX Firmware Update Process
Step 1: Access the FX Software
Log in to the FX software using a PC or mobile browser. Access the device via its assigned IP address. The default IP address is 192.168.4.1 if using WAP mode, or 192.168.64.100 if using a static LAN connection. If the IP address has been changed, use the user-assigned address.
Step 2: Backup Device Settings (Recommended)
Navigate to the Settings > Device page. Click or press the option to back up all settings, presets, events, and accounts. Save this backup file to your computer or mobile device.
Step 3: Initiate Firmware Update
On the Settings > Device page, click or press the Update button within the Firmware Update section to begin installing a new firmware file.
Step 5: Select and Apply Firmware File
Click or press the Select Firmware File field to browse and select the new firmware file. This file must be downloaded from the Ashly Audio website to the computer or mobile device you are using to access the FX device. After selecting the file, click or press the Update button to commence the transfer. The FX unit will then validate the received file. If the file is corrupt or invalid, an error message will be displayed, and the update process will be canceled. If the file is valid, the update will proceed. Crucially, do not interrupt power to the FX during this stage (refer to the 'Associated Risks' section). The unit will complete the update by automatically power cycling (rebooting) and will then reload the FX UI in your browser window.
