Installation Instructions
General Precautions
IF NOT QUALIFIED DO NOT ATTEMPT INSTALLATION:
- Contact a certified electrician to install these bulbs if you are not properly qualified.
Risk of Electric Shock or Fire
- Risk of Electric Shock is present when working with electrical components.
- Do not drill holes in the fixture that could affect the internal wiring.
Prevent Electric Wire Abrasions
- Do not expose wiring to edges of the fixture or other sharp objects. This can cause abrasion and damage the wiring, greatly increasing risk of electrical shock or fire.
Bulb Installation Steps
- TURN OFF POWER AT THE BREAKER OR FUSE PANEL. (TURNING OFF POWER AT THE WALL SWITCH IS NOT A SUFFICIENT SAFETY PRECAUTION)
- Double check the rating of the lamp (120-277VAC) matches the voltage of the current circuit.
- Check to see if the fixture is compatible with the bulbs (Ballast Bypass, Shunted/Non-Shunted).
- Check all wires for proper connection with no loose ends.
- If Ballast is already bypassed, move on to step 5. If ballast is not bypassed, see Diagrams 1, 2, & 3 and follow instructions on the following page.
- Take out old bulbs.
- Install GT-2PK-T8-SLH bulbs into the new fixture.
- Turn Power back on and turn fixture on. If bulbs do not turn on, disconnect power from fixture and proceed to troubleshooting section.
Diagram 1: Bypass Install Steps
This diagram illustrates the ballast bypass installation process:
- 1. Turn Off Power.
- 2. Remove existing lamp.
- 3. Cut all wires attached to ballast.*
- 4. Connect one end of fixture to line power.
- 5. Install LED tube.
- 6. Turn on power.
Ballast Bypass Retrofit Instructions
- TURN OFF POWER AT THE BREAKER OR FUSE PANEL. (TURNING OFF POWER AT THE WALL SWITCH IS NOT SUFFICIENT SAFETY PRECAUTION)
- Double check the rating of the lamp (120-277VAC) matches the voltage of the current circuit.
- Check to see if the fixture has shunted, or non-shunted lampholders.
- Take out old bulbs and remove the ballast cover.
- Disconnect all wires attached to the ballast as close to the ballast as possible. It is best practice to leave the ballasts in place after doing this.
- For Non-Shunted Lampholders:
- Connect one wire from each lampholder at only one end of the fixture to the back wire.
- Separately connect the neutral wire (white) to the lampholder after.
- At the opposite end of the fixture, cut all wires that connect to that lampholder.
- ENSURE THIS FIXTURE REMAINS GROUNDED AFTER THE RETROFIT PROCESS.
- For Shunted Lampholders:
- Connect one black wire to one lamp holder on one side of the light.
- Connect the neutral (white) wire to a lamp holder on the opposite side of light.
- Do this for each bulb in the light fixture.
- Replace any removed wiring covers or ballast covers.
- Install GT-2PK-T8-SLH bulbs into the new fixture.
Diagram 2: Wiring Schematics
This diagram shows typical wiring for non-shunted and shunted lampholders:
Non-Shunted: Illustrates power from the building (Hot/Line, Neutral) connected to the fixture, bypassing the ballast. Wires are connected to lampholders, with specific connections for shunted/non-shunted types.
Shunted: Shows AC100-277V input, Neutral (N), Line (L) connected to an LED tube, indicating a dual-end ballast bypass configuration.
Diagram 3: Before and After Retrofit
This diagram visually compares the wiring before and after the ballast bypass retrofit:
Before Retrofit: Shows a typical fluorescent fixture with Line (120-277VAC), Neutral, Ballast, and multiple FLUORESCENT LAMPS connected.
After Retrofit: Shows the same fixture with Line (120-277VAC), Neutral, AC INPUT connected to GT-Lite BULBs, indicating the ballast has been removed or bypassed and the LED tubes are directly wired to the power source.
Troubleshooting
