Front Panel Controls
The front panel features the following controls:
- Standby/On: Switches the unit between Standby Mode (dim power LED) and On (bright power LED).
- Skip: Skips to the next track during playback.
- Play/Pause: Plays or pauses the current track.
- Display: Controls the display.
- Info: Cycles through 'Now Playing' screens. Press and hold to display product info, firmware update options, network setup mode, and factory reset.
- Infrared sensor: Receives IR commands from compatible CX series 2 remote controls. (Note: The CXN100 does not include its own remote control).
- Source Selector: Scrolls through sources enabled in the StreamMagic app.
- Volume Control: Controls volume via the analogue outputs when Pre-amp mode is enabled.
Display
The CXN100 display shows the following information:
- Album/Source artwork: Displays album artwork or the source input icon if artwork is unavailable.
- Track title, artist and album: For Internet Radio, displays the radio station name and current playback.
- Format info: Displays streaming sample rate or bitrate for Internet Radio.
- Source input: Shows the currently selected source.
- Progress bar: Indicates current track progression during playback.
- Track time: Displays elapsed track time during playback.
- Clock: Shows the current time.
- Network connection: Displays the current network connection status (e.g., Wireless network connection, Wireless connection with no internet access, Wired network connection, Wired connection with no internet access, No network connection).
- Speaker output: Displays the selected speaker output.
- Mute volume: Indicates when the network streamer is muted.
- Firmware update: Notifies when new firmware is available. Update via the 'Info' button or StreamMagic app.
- MQA indicator: Shows MQA status (see MQA section for details).
- Shuffle, Repeat and Repeat +1: Controls playback modes.
Rear Panel Connections
The rear panel provides various connection options:
- AC Power socket: Connects to the mains power supply.
- WIFI Antenna: Connect securely for Wi-Fi reception.
- USB Media: For connecting local media storage (USB drives). Not intended for mobile devices (no charging or functionality).
- Service Port: For servicing use only. Connecting other devices may cause damage.
- Ethernet: Connects directly to a network router for high-resolution playback (up to 352.8kHz, 384kHz, DSD 256).
- Control Bus: RCA sockets for power and volume commands between CX Series products. Refer to the 'Control Bus' section for details.
- USB Audio In: USB B type socket for PC and Mac connection. Requires Cambridge Audio USB driver for Windows PCs.
- USB Ground Switch: Adjust to resolve humming noise. Default is Position 1 (unit audio ground lifted from chassis earth). Position 2 lifts USB Audio ground from unit audio ground.
- WiFi/Bluetooth Antenna: Connect securely for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality.
- Chassis Ground Switch: Position 1 (default) lifts unit audio ground from chassis earth. Position 2 connects unit audio ground directly to chassis ground to reduce hum/noise.
- Digital Inputs (Coax and Optical): S/PDIF coaxial (16/24-bit, up to 192kHz) and TOSLINK optical (16/24-bit, up to 96kHz) inputs. TV mode in StreamMagic app can minimize lip-sync delays for TV connections.
- Digital Outputs: TOSLINK and S/PDIF coaxial digital outputs.
- Line Output: Fixed or variable output for connecting to amplifiers or recording devices.
- Balanced Audio Output: Higher quality option using XLR connections, rejecting noise and interference. Pinout: Pin 1: Ground, Pin 2: Hot, Pin 3: Cold.
Remote Control
The CXN100 does not include its own remote control but is compatible with the CX series 2 remote control. The device can be fully controlled via the StreamMagic app.
Remote functions include:
- Standby/On: Switches between On and Standby mode.
- Brightness: Adjusts display brightness (two levels, or off).
- Mute: Mutes or un-mutes audio (requires Pre-amp mode).
- Random: Plays tracks randomly.
- Repeat: Repeats all tracks in queue.
- Volume: Adjusts volume level (requires Pre-amp mode and analogue outputs).
- Info: Toggles display information or shows the 'info' screen.
- Skip: Skips between tracks.
- Enter: Selects an option.
- Source Selector: Scrolls through sources in the StreamMagic app.
- Play/Pause: Plays or pauses the current track.
- Presets: Recalls stored presets (1-8).
If the remote does not function, check batteries and ensure the IR sensor is not blocked.
Getting Connected
Important Note: Switch power off before making any connections.
Basic Analogue Connections
Two analogue connection options are available:
- Line Output Connection (RCA): Connects via standard RCA cables.
- Balanced Audio Connection (XLR): Offers higher quality and noise rejection. Ensure correct wiring (Pin 1: Ground, Pin 2: Hot, Pin 3: Cold).
Basic Digital Connections
Two digital connection options are available:
- Digital Coaxial Output: Commonly used with CD players and amplifiers, offering higher bandwidth.
- TOSLINK Optical Output: Commonly found on televisions, DVD players, and A/V units, with lower bandwidth.
Control Bus
The Control Bus allows control of other CX series units. Connecting the CXN100 Control Bus Out to CXA Control Bus In enables synchronized power on/off and volume control via the StreamMagic app when using a CXA amplifier. For multi-unit setups (CXN100, CXA, CXC), connect CXN100 Control Bus Out to CXA Control Bus In, and CXA Control Bus Out to CXC Control Bus In. Do NOT loop back from CXC to CXN100. Control Bus must be enabled and set to 'Amplifier' in the StreamMagic app settings.
Connecting to WiFi
Important Note: Maintaining an internet connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) is vital for regular updates, security protocols, and third-party compatibility. Failure to update firmware may void the warranty.
Note: Captive portal networks are not supported. Avoid powerline adapters and Wi-Fi signal boosters/extenders if possible, as they can disrupt connection reliability.
Connecting to a Wired Network
- Connect a network cable (Category 5/5E) between your device and your router.
- The device will automatically connect to the network.
Connecting to a Wireless Network
iOS:
- Connect both Wi-Fi antennas to the rear of the unit and ensure it is within wireless router range. Power on the unit.
- If setting up for the first time or after a factory reset, follow on-screen instructions to select your language.
- On your iOS device, go to Wi-Fi settings and select 'SETUP NEW AIRPLAY SPEAKER'. Choose your Network Player's name. (Some devices may not show 'AirPlay Speaker' option; select the player name directly).
- Complete setup by downloading and installing the StreamMagic app from the Apple App Store.
Android:
- Connect both Wi-Fi antennas to the rear of the unit and ensure it is within wireless router range. Power on the unit.
- If setting up for the first time or after a factory reset, follow on-screen instructions to select your language.
- Download and install the StreamMagic app from the Google Play Store.
- Open the StreamMagic app, select 'Connect', then 'Set up a new device', and choose your Network Player's name.
- Select 'Wireless Connection' and 'Continue'.
- Your Android device will show available Wi-Fi devices; select your Network Player's name.
- Enter your Wi-Fi network password and select 'Continue'.
- The device will connect to your Wi-Fi network (may take up to a minute).
- Complete initial setup within the StreamMagic app.
StreamMagic app - Setup
The StreamMagic app allows streaming from various sources on your home network and the internet. Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Setup Process:
- Switch on your player and follow on-screen instructions to select your preferred language.
- Open the StreamMagic app and follow the provided instructions to complete network setup. This process also applies pending updates.
Note: You will be prompted to name your player during setup, which aids in identifying it for streaming and smart home services.
Once connected to your home network, you gain full control of sources like internet radio, streaming services, network drives, and USB drives.

Google Home / Chromecast built-in
Your player supports Chromecast built-in, allowing integration with your Google Home. Download the Google Home app to set up your player.
With Chromecast built-in, your phone acts as a remote. Tap the 'Cast' button in compatible apps to stream music, podcasts, and playlists from your phone, tablet, or laptop to your player.
Chromecast built-in Features:
- Your phone is your remote: Tap 'Cast' from familiar apps; no new logins required.
- Control from anywhere: Search, play, pause, and adjust volume from anywhere in the home.
- Multitasking: Use your phone for other tasks while streaming.
- Multi-room casting: Enjoy music throughout your house with Chromecast-enabled speakers.
- Voice Control: Use "Hey Google" to cast to your player.
Unlimited entertainment, all on your schedule:
- Works with hundreds of apps, with more being added.
- Stream from millions of songs via services like Pandora, Spotify, and YouTube Music.
Note: Accept Google's terms and conditions during setup via the StreamMagic app or after a factory reset to enable Chromecast functionality.

Internet Radio
Browse and play a wide variety of Internet Radio stations via the StreamMagic app's Radio tab. You can assign up to 99 favorite stations as presets, recallable via the app or the remote control (if applicable).
Search and Assign a Preset via StreamMagic App:
- Navigate to the Radio tab in the StreamMagic app.
- Use the 'Search for Radio' tab or enter a Custom URL.
- Once a station is found, select 'Play now' or 'Add to presets'.
- Assign the station to a preset number (1-99).
- Confirmation will be received when the station is saved.
Note: Supported custom URL stream file types include: ALAC, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, DSD (x256), WMA, MP3, AAC, HE AAC, AAC+, OGG Vorbis.
To Remove a Preset (iOS):
- In the StreamMagic app, navigate to the Home tab.
- Scroll to 'Presets' and select 'EDIT'.
- Tap the red circle icon next to the station and press 'Delete'.
To Remove a Preset (Android):
- In the StreamMagic app, navigate to the Home tab.
- Scroll to 'Presets' and select 'EDIT'.
- Tap the station you wish to remove.
Note: Presets can also be assigned using a remote control by pressing and holding a number while a station is playing.
Bluetooth
The Bluetooth source allows wireless audio streaming from phones, tablets, and laptops.
Pairing:
- In the StreamMagic App, navigate to the Home tab.
- Use the 'Edit' option to add the Bluetooth source.
- Return to the Home tab and select the Bluetooth source.
- On your mobile device or laptop, open Bluetooth settings.
- Select your player from the list of available devices.
- Your device should now connect to your player.
Once paired, you can connect anytime by selecting the Bluetooth source on your player and choosing your player from the list of previously connected devices.
Note: Your Bluetooth device can only connect while the Bluetooth source is selected.
AirPlay
AirPlay is an Apple technology for controlling home audio systems and speakers. It allows playback and volume adjustment in multiple rooms simultaneously from iPhone, iPad, HomePod, or Apple TV.
How to use AirPlay from iPhone or iPad:
- Ensure your player is connected to your network.
- Open the app you want to AirPlay from.
- Tap the AirPlay icon [AirPlay icon] or the Cast icon [Cast icon].
- Select your player as the AirPlay device.
How to use AirPlay from Control Center:
- Swipe down from the top right of your device screen to open Control Center.
- Touch and hold the AirPlay icon [AirPlay icon] in the upper-right corner, then select your player.

Built-in Streaming Services
Your player supports the following built-in streaming services:
- Spotify Connect
- TIDAL
- Qobuz
- Deezer
Note: The streaming device (smartphone, tablet, computer) must be on the same Wi-Fi network as the player for communication.
Spotify Connect:
Use your phone, tablet, or computer as a remote for Spotify. Learn more at spotify.com/connect.
TIDAL (Connect):
- Open the TIDAL app, choose content, and select your player from the 'Sound Output devices' list.
- TIDAL Connect will stream your chosen content.

TIDAL (via StreamMagic):
- Open the StreamMagic app, navigate to the Library tab, and select TIDAL.
- Sign into your TIDAL account (required only on the first use).
- Choose content to stream to your player.
Qobuz (via Google Cast):
- Open the Qobuz app, choose content, and select your player from the Qobuz Connect list using the Google Cast icon.
- Qobuz will cast your chosen content.
Qobuz (via StreamMagic):
- Open the StreamMagic app, navigate to the Library tab, and select Qobuz.
- Sign into your Qobuz account (required only on the first use).
- Choose content to stream to your player.
Deezer (via Google Cast):
- Open the Deezer app, choose content, and select 'Google Cast' from the speaker icon menu, then choose your player.
- Deezer will cast your chosen content.
Deezer (via StreamMagic):
- Open the StreamMagic app, navigate to the Library tab, and select Deezer.
- Sign into your Deezer account (required only on the first use).
- Choose content to stream to your player.
Note: Deezer via StreamMagic requires firmware version 129-b-004 or later and StreamMagic app version 2.9.0 or later.
USB Audio
Important note: Ensure the USB Audio connection is unplugged before initial setup. It can be re-connected after firmware updates.
PC Setup:
Note: Install the required Cambridge Audio Windows 2.0 USB driver on your PC before connecting. Find the latest driver at cambridgeaudio.com/gbr/en/driver-updates.
- Connect your device to your PC using a USB Audio cable (Type A to Type B), connecting the USB Audio In on your device to a USB port on the PC.
- Select the USB Audio source on the device or via the StreamMagic app (Home tab > Sources > USB Audio).
- Navigate to the 'CA Control Panel' in your Windows taskbar to view connected devices and sample rates.
- On your PC, go to Settings > System > Sound. Select your Network Player as the output device.
- In the same window, under Related Settings, select 'Sound Control Panel' or 'More Sound Settings'.
- On the Playback tab, ensure your device is the default output device, then select 'Properties'.
- In Speaker Properties, go to the 'Advanced' tab and select your preferred bit depth and sample rate (optional).
Note: Not all Windows versions support sample rates above 384kHz. If issues occur, set the default Windows playback format to 384kHz or lower and restart your Network Player.
Your PC's audio will now play through your Network Player.
Mac Setup:
Note: No extra drivers are required for Mac.
- Connect your device to your Mac using a USB Audio cable (Type A to Type B) to the USB Audio In port. USB Type C (Thunderbolt 3) to USB Type B is also supported for Macs without USB Type A ports.
- Select the USB Audio source on the device or via the StreamMagic app (Home tab > Sources > USB Audio).
- In Mac System Preferences, go to Sound settings and select your Network Player as the output device.
- Navigate to Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup. Select your device on the left column and choose the desired bit depth and sample rate from the dropdown options.
Note: This step is optional.
Your Mac's audio will now play through your Network Player.
USB Media
Connect a USB SSD, HDD, or flash drive to the rear panel USB Media input for playback. Supported formats include: ALAC, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, DSD, WMA, MP3, AAC, HE AAC, AAC+, OGG Vorbis.
Note: Large capacity hard drives may require their own power supply. The player supports drives formatted to FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, and Ext4. Compatibility with all USB HDDs is not guaranteed.
USB Media Playback (via StreamMagic app):
- Connect a USB drive to the rear panel USB Input.
- Navigate to the Library tab in the StreamMagic app.
- Under 'USB Drives', locate and open your USB Media device.
- Select a track to choose from 'PLAY FROM HERE', 'PLAY TRACK NOW', 'PLAY TRACK NEXT', or 'QUEUE TRACK'.
Playback Options:
- PLAY FROM HERE: Starts playback from the selected point in an album/folder.
- PLAY TRACK NOW: Plays the selected track immediately.
- PLAY TRACK NEXT: Adds the selected track to the queue for playback next.
- QUEUE TRACK: Adds the selected track to the playback queue.
Streaming Your Local Digital Music Collection
Your player can access content from various physical sources, including PC, Mac, or Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices.
To stream local content, you need:
- Your Cambridge Audio Network Player.
- A mobile device (smartphone/tablet) for the StreamMagic app or front panel controls.
- A hard drive, computer, or NAS with compatible digital music files.
- An active UPnP music or media server.
- A router configured for UPnP service.
Note: Ensure all items are correctly connected and configured. Refer to the best practice guide for setup assistance.
MQA (Master Quality Authenticated)
The CXN100 includes MQA technology for playing MQA audio files and streams, delivering the original master recording sound.
The front panel displays MQA green or blue to indicate decoding and playback. MQA green signifies decoding and playback of an MQA stream or file. MQA blue indicates playback of an MQA Studio file, approved or verified by the artist/producer or copyright owner.
Settings
Access various settings via the StreamMagic app or front panel:
- Device Name: Sets how the player appears on your network and in apps (e.g., Spotify, Chromecast, TIDAL Connect). A unique name aids identification.
- AirPlay Name: Sets how the player appears when using AirPlay or the Apple Home app.
- Standby Mode: Choose between 'Network Standby' (controllable via app/network services) and 'ECO mode' (uses less power, requires manual switching on, not controllable remotely).
- Automatic Power Down: Sets the inactivity period before the player enters standby.
- Display Brightness: Adjusts the display brightness. Setting to 'Off' shows the display briefly after changes.
- Roon Ready DSD: Choose how Roon provides DSD content: 'Use DoP for digital output' (for native DSD support) or 'Use PCM for digital output' (if native DSD is not supported).
- Control Bus: If connected to a Cambridge Audio amplifier, volume commands can be sent directly. Refer to the 'Getting Connected' section for details.
- Pre-Amp: When enabled, controls the volume of analogue outputs via the app or rotary dial. (See FAQ for more info. Only available when connected via analogue outputs).
- Volume Limit: Sets the maximum volume for streaming services. Front panel, remote, and app controls can override this.
- Early Update: Enable to try the latest firmware before general release. Visit FAQ for details.
- Firmware: Checks for and applies new firmware. You can also check and update via the 'Info' screen: hold the 'i' (Info) button for 2 seconds, then press 'play/pause' as instructed.
Restart: Restarts the device, briefly losing network connection.
Factory Reset: Returns the player to factory settings. Access via the 'Info' screen: hold the 'i' (Info) button for 2 seconds, then hold the 'reverse skip' button as instructed.
Info Screen
The info screen displays useful player information and aids in troubleshooting. Access it by holding the 'i' (Info) button on the front panel for 2 seconds.

Troubleshooting
Connecting to Network:
- Follow 'Connecting to WiFi' steps.
- Ensure Wi-Fi antennas are securely connected.
- Ensure your mobile device is on the same network as the player.
- Remove VPN or Anti-Virus apps from your mobile device.
- Remove network switches/extenders.
- Connect directly to router via Ethernet cable.
- Perform a factory reset and retry network setup.
- Check DHCP server availability or configure a static IP address via StreamMagic app 'Network' settings.
- Reboot or factory reset your router.
Connecting StreamMagic App:
- Ensure your mobile device is on the same network as the player.
- Remove VPN or Anti-Virus apps from your mobile device.
- Allow StreamMagic app access to devices on your network via mobile device settings.
- Ensure Wi-Fi antennas are securely connected.
- Check if other apps can 'see' the unit; if so, the issue might be with the app's access.
- Try downloading the StreamMagic app on another mobile device.
- Remove network switches, extenders, boosters.
Audio Dropouts (Network Source):
- Ensure Wi-Fi antennas are securely connected.
- Remove network switches, extenders, boosters.
- Connect directly to router via Ethernet cable.
- Reset your network router.
- Perform a factory reset on your Network Player.
Internet Radio Station Issues:
- Station may be offline, at maximum listener capacity, or no longer broadcasting.
