This ensures the device receives regular updates for basic security protocols, third-party compatibility, and the latest software requirements. Failure to maintain regular firmware updates provided by Cambridge Audio may invalidate your product warranty and could lead to significant issues with the device. Ensure the firmware on your device is up to date. For information on the latest firmware version for the MXN10, please click here.

Note: The MXN10 is not compatible with captive portal networks. The MXN10 can connect to 2.4GHz/5GHz Wi-Fi networks.

To stream local content, you will need the following hardware and software running on your network:

  1. Your Cambridge Audio network player.
  2. A mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, capable of running the StreamMagic application.
  3. A hard drive, computer, or NAS containing compatible digital music files.
  4. An active UPnP music or media server.
  5. A router configured to allow UPnP services.

Note: Ensure all the above are correctly connected and configured. Please note that settings will vary depending on the server, NAS, computer, etc. you are using. To help you with this, we have created a best practice guide that can help you get up and running effortlessly. Please see here.

Settings

Device Name: The name your player displays in your StreamMagic application and on your home network when using services such as Spotify, Chromecast built-in, and TIDAL Connect.

When using streaming services and smart home services, giving your player a unique name makes it easier to find.

AirPlay Name: How your player will be presented when using AirPlay or the Apple Home application.

Standby Mode: This selects the type of standby mode your player will use. Network standby means your player can still be controlled via the StreamMagic application and other network services. If Power Saving mode is selected, your player will use less power in standby but will require the front panel or remote control to turn it on.

Automatic Power-Down: This sets the time your player will wait before switching to standby mode when inactive. You can disable this feature or edit the time required to trigger the automatic power-down by selecting 'Automatic Power-Down' within the device settings in the StreamMagic application.

Roon Ready DSD: This allows you to select how Roon will provide native digital streams (DSD) content. Use DoP for digital output – if your device supports native DSD in DoP format. Use PCM for digital output – if your device does not support native DSD in PCM format.

Firmware Update: Setting this to 'On' allows you to trial the latest firmware before its official release. For more information and news, please visit our FAQ.

Firmware: This checks for and applies any new firmware available for your player. Your player will check for and apply any latest updates when left on overnight in network standby mode.

Factory Reset: This will restore your player to its factory default settings. You can also perform this manually by following these steps:

  1. Unplug the main power cord.
  2. While reconnecting the power cord, press and hold the standby button.
  3. The LED will flash red when the factory reset is complete.
  4. The player will restart.

Note: Your network player must be connected to the internet to perform firmware updates. It is recommended to always keep your network player connected to the network to ensure optimal performance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does the MXN10 have a pre-amplifier or volume control?

Yes, volume can be controlled on the MXN when connected via the analogue output. When connected via the digital output, pre-amplifier mode and volume control cannot be used.

When connected via the analogue output and the pre-amplifier mode is enabled in the StreamMagic application device settings, you can control the MXN's volume via the application.

Note: Pre-amplifier mode and volume control are only available with firmware version 132-b-007 or later.

Can the MXN10 support MQA content?

Although the MXN10 can receive MQA encoded content, the device cannot play back the full MQA file via TIDAL Connect, as the MXN10 does not have a built-in MQA decoder to unfold the MQA file.

There are no plans to integrate MQA support into the MXN10, as this would require hardware modifications to install a full MQA decoder.

How to set up the MXN10 for MQA Passthrough with DacMagic 200M?

Although the MXN10 can receive MQA encoded content, the device cannot play back the full MQA file via TIDAL Connect, as the MXN10 does not have a built-in MQA decoder to unfold the MQA file.

However, it is possible to bypass the MXN10's DAC and let an external MQA-capable DAC, such as the DacMagic 200M, handle the MQA file. This operation allows the MQA file to be fully unfolded in the DacMagic 200M, and you can still control and sort MQA files via the MXN10.

Please follow the instructions below to set up:

  1. Connect the MXN10's digital output (SP/DIF Coaxial or Toslink Optical output) to the corresponding digital input (D1 or D2) of the DacMagic 200M.
  2. Connect the DacMagic 200M's balanced or unbalanced output to your amplifier.
  3. Select the relevant D1/D2 input on the DacMagic 200M.
  4. Open the TIDAL application on your smartphone or tablet and tap the 'Settings' button, then confirm that the streaming quality is set to 'Original'.
  5. Select the MXN10 as your output device in the TIDAL Connect menu.
  6. The MQA file will now be passed through to the DacMagic 200M, and MQA playback should be indicated by the relevant LED light on the DacMagic 200M.

Can I output from multiple MXN10s simultaneously?

If you wish to connect the MXN10 to a single device, you can use any digital or analogue output required. However, if you wish to connect multiple MXN10s to a single device, you can connect up to three devices and play them simultaneously, as all outputs remain active.

Please note, as the MXN10 does not have volume control, you will need to ensure that the device you connect the player to has its own volume control.

How to prevent the MXN10 from powering off when not in use?

The MXN10 automatically switches to standby mode after 20 minutes of inactivity. You can disable the Automatic Power-Down (APD) feature by navigating to Device Settings within the StreamMagic application.

By selecting 'Automatic Power-Down', you can disable this feature or edit the time required to trigger the automatic power-down.

What USB drives does the MXN10 support?

The primary function of the MXN10 is to be used as a network music player, with the USB port intended for the convenience of connecting USB hard drives and solid-state drives. Therefore, compatibility with all USB drives and solid-state drives cannot be guaranteed.

The MXN10 will read large capacity hard drive drives connected to the USB Media input. However, some larger capacity drives may require their own power supply, as the player's USB port may not provide sufficient power for the drives to operate correctly.

The MXN10 only supports USB hard drives formatted to FAT32 and NTFS.

Can I play files from a connected USB drive when the MXN10 is not connected to the network?

This is not possible, as the StreamMagic application must be used to play local files from a connected USB drive.

Please note, we strongly advise that the MXN10 is always connected to the network.

What is the service port on the back of the MXN10 for?

The service port on the back of the MXN10 is for authorised Cambridge Audio service centres and dealers only. Please do not connect any devices to the service port, as this may result in damage to the device.

Does the MXN10 require two antennas to work?

Yes, if you are connecting your MXN10 wirelessly to your network, you will need to connect the two supplied antennas to achieve full Wi-Fi functionality and the strongest wireless network connection. Bluetooth functionality is also only available when one of the antennas is connected to the port with the Bluetooth symbol.

Does the MXN10 have a remote control?

The MXN10 does not have a remote control. The device can be controlled and settings adjusted via the StreamMagic application.
