4 Elements to Brew the Perfect Cup
- Water Quality: Use fresh, quality water that tastes good, has an odorless aroma, and contains no visible impurities. Water makes up over 98% of brewed coffee.
- Coffee Freshness: Use freshly ground coffee beans. Ground coffee flavor degrades over time; grind just prior to brewing for maximum freshness.
- Even Saturation: The Evenstream showerhead ensures even saturation of coffee grounds for optimal flavor extraction, preventing over- or under-extraction.
- Proper Proportion: Use the recommended coffee-to-water ratio (1 tablespoon of ground coffee per 1 cup of brewed coffee) for a balanced brew. Adjust to taste or use the Brew Strength Selector.
Tips for a Perfect Cup of Coffee
- Grind whole coffee beans just before brewing for maximum freshness.
- Store coffee in a cool, dry place, tightly sealed in an airtight container once opened.
- Always use fresh, cold, clean water with an odorless aroma and no visible impurities.
- Do not refrigerate or freeze coffee, as moisture contact can cause deterioration.
- Use spring water or filtered water; distilled water lacks minerals necessary for binding coffee elements.
- Never re-use coffee grounds; desirable flavors are extracted during the first brew.
- Regular cleaning of the coffee maker is essential for the best tasting coffee.
- Enjoy brewed coffee immediately; reheating can impact flavor.
- Keep the thermal carafe lid on after brewing to maintain heat and freshness.
- Pre-warm the carafe by filling it with hot tap water and emptying it before brewing.
- Savor the aroma and taste of freshly brewed coffee.
Brewing Coffee
Note: You do not need to set the clock to brew coffee immediately.
- Open the coffeemaker cover. Fill the water reservoir with cold tap water, using the easy-view water window as a guide. Do not fill past the 12 MAX line.
- Place a basket-shaped paper filter into the brew basket. Add ground coffee (suggested: 1 tablespoon per cup). Put the brew basket in place.
- Close the carafe lid by aligning the arrow on the lid with the unlocked symbol on the carafe. Turn the lid clockwise until the arrow aligns with the locked symbol. Note: Coffee may overflow if the lid is not correctly placed.
- Place the empty carafe on the carafe plate and plug the cord into a standard outlet.
- To set Auto Brew delay start, brew strength, and 1-4 cup settings, refer to the “Programming” section.
- Press the ON/OFF button once to begin brewing.
- The Sneak-A-Cup™ feature allows you to pour a cup before brewing is complete. The carafe must be replaced within 20 seconds to prevent overflow; replacing it restarts the brewing process.
- The brew timer will begin when the brewing cycle is complete.
- Press the tab on the carafe lid to pour coffee.
- To turn off the coffeemaker at any time, press the ON/OFF button.
- When coffee grounds are cool, carefully remove and discard the used grounds and filter.
- Clean the thermal carafe and washable brew basket according to the CARE AND CLEANING section.
