IKEA Beds Buying Guide

A good day always starts with a good night. Feeling your best when you wake up starts with the right bed. This guide provides information on bed frames, including those with and without storage, daybeds, loft beds, bunk beds, and upholstered beds. It also covers bed accessories like headboards and storage boxes.

How to Buy a Complete Bed

A complete bed frame with mattress consists of several parts:

Choose a bed frame style and size.
SKORVA midbeam (art nr 901.245.34) is needed for most full, queen, and king beds. It is picked up separately. For upholstered bed frames, the midbeam is included in the packaging.
For most bed frames, a slatted bed base is also needed (see page 6). For some upholstered bed frames, the slatted bed base is included in the price and packaging.
Choose a mattress or use one you already have. Test mattresses in the mattress studio.
Add a mattress pad for a softer sleeping surface.

LÖNSET Slatted bed base: Features 28 birch slats that adjust to body weight for increased suppleness and comfort zones.

Daybeds can extend to make two twin-sized beds. They are designed to be used with two twin mattresses and include a slatted bed base. The SKORVA midbeam is not needed for daybeds.

UTÅKER Stackable beds: Pine, unfinished. Available as a set of 2.

Bunk beds and loft beds

Suitable for children from 6 years of age.

Loft beds

Loft beds provide sleeping for one, with space underneath for storage, play, or study. They are twin beds. The top bunk has a solid guardrail for safety. Use a mattress with the correct thickness for a loft bed or top bunk. Slatted bed base is included, and SKORVA midbeam is not needed.

SMÅSTAD Loft bed frame with desk and storage: White.
STORÅ Loft bed frame: Black stained pine.
VITVAL Loft bed frame: White/light gray. Includes fabric guardrails and can be accessorized.
VITVAL Desk top: For creating a workspace under the VITVAL loft bed. White.

Bunk beds

Bunk beds have sleeping for two – an upper bunk and a lower bunk. They are twin beds. The top bed has a guardrail. Use a mattress with the correct thickness. Slatted bed base is included, and SKORVA midbeam is not needed.

TUFFING Twin bunk bed: Gray. Lower profile for easier bed making.
MYDAL Twin bunk bed frame: Solid wood construction. Available in Pine and White.
VITVAL Twin bunk bed frame: Features soft shapes and fabric guardrails. Available in White/light gray.

Important Safety Note: Never allow a child under 6 years old on the upper bunk.
