Getting started

Your machine features three power modes to suit different cleaning tasks. You can switch between these modes using a single button.

  • Eco mode: Provides maximum run time for longer cleaning sessions around your home.
  • Med mode: Offers an optimal balance between power and run time.
  • Boost mode: Designed for intensive spot cleaning of stubborn, ground-in dirt.

The LCD screen

The LCD screen displays current performance metrics, including the selected cleaning mode, remaining run time, filter maintenance status, and blockage reports.

Settings menu

You can control your machine's settings via the button. To enter the settings menu, press and hold the button until the menu screen appears. Tap the button to scroll through the available options.

Change language

To change the language displayed on your screen, press and hold the button until the language list appears, then release the button. Tap the button to scroll through the list to your preferred language. Press and hold the button again until a countdown ends to confirm your selection. A green tick will appear on the screen to indicate successful completion. To cancel, release the button during the countdown.

Change alert settings

You have the option to turn off the motor pulse alerts. When disabled, the motor will not pulse, but run time alerts will still be displayed on the LCD screen when your machine requires attention. Note that turning off alerts does not disable the blockage alert pulsing, which is crucial for ensuring blockages are cleared to prevent machine damage.

To adjust alert settings: Tap to scroll through the settings menu, select the 'Alerts' option. Scroll to choose 'on' or 'off', then hold the button until the countdown ends and a tick appears. To cancel, release the button during the countdown.

Run time countdown

When the battery needs charging, your machine will pulse three times, and a low run time icon will appear on the screen. If your battery is empty, a red warning icon will be displayed.

Battery health

For optimal performance and battery longevity, it is recommended to use Eco or Med mode.

Alerts

Potential alerts you may encounter include:

  • Filter: Indicates the filter is not fitted correctly or requires cleaning.
  • Blockage: Signals that your machine has a blockage that needs to be removed.

Exit settings menu

To exit the settings menu, tap to scroll through the selection menu and select 'Exit menu'.

Caring for your floors

Before vacuuming, ensure the underside of the cleaner head or tool is clean and free from any objects that could cause damage. Always check the manufacturer's recommended cleaning instructions for your specific flooring, rugs, and carpets.

Be aware that the brush bar on your machine can potentially damage certain carpet types and floors. Some carpets may experience fuzzing if a rotating brush bar is used. In such cases, it is recommended to vacuum without the motorised floor tool and consult your flooring manufacturer.

Charging your machine

It is important to fully charge your new machine before its first use and after every clean. This process helps the battery and monitoring system's algorithm to learn and accurately calculate the remaining run time.

Connect the charger directly to the machine or place the machine in the dock. The blue LEDs on either side of the battery will flash during charging. When the battery is fully charged, both LEDs will illuminate for 5 seconds, and the display will show 100%.

Your machine is designed to protect its motor and battery and will not operate or charge if the ambient temperature is below 5°C (41°F).

Changing your click-in battery

If your machine has additional click-in batteries, alternating their use is recommended to maintain even performance.

  • Removing your battery: Press the battery release button on the handle and slide the battery off your machine.
  • Charging the battery: Charge the removed battery.
  • Refitting your battery: Align the battery with the handle and slide it in. Push firmly until it clicks into place.

Emptying your bin

Empty the bin as soon as the dirt reaches the MAX level to avoid overfilling, which can affect performance and necessitate more frequent filter washing.

  • Remove your wand: Press the red wand release button on the top of the wand and pull the wand away from the bin.
  • Release the dirt: Hold the machine over the bin, pointing downwards. Firmly push the red bin release button. The bin will slide down, cleaning the shroud as it opens. The bin base will only open if the red bin release button is fully pushed down.
  • Minimise dust contact: For cleaner emptying, cover your bin tightly in a dust-proof bag before removal. Seal the bag securely and dispose of it.
  • Close the bin: Push the bin base upwards until your bin and bin base click securely into place.

Cleaning your bin

If your bin requires cleaning, first empty it as described in the 'Emptying your bin' section.

  • Remove your bin: Press the red button located on the bin runner to release the bin and slide it off the runner.
  • Cleaning: Use only a damp, lint-free cloth to clean your bin. Ensure that your bin and seals are completely dry before refitting.
  • Refit your bin: Insert the spine onto the bin runner. Close your bin by pushing the bin base upwards until it clicks into place.

Your bin is not dishwasher safe. Using detergents, polishes, or air fresheners to clean your bin is not recommended as it may cause damage to your machine.

Clearing blockages

Before attempting to clear blockages, disconnect your machine from the charger and allow it to cool down. Do not use the machine while looking for blockages, as this could cause injury.

If your machine detects a blockage, the motor will pulse, and you will be unable to use it until the blockage is cleared. Attempting to use the machine while the motor is pulsing will cause it to automatically cut out.

  • Check the main body: Remove the bin and check for blockages within the main body of your machine. Ensure all parts are fitted correctly and any blockages are completely cleared before resuming use.
  • Check the wand and cleaner head: Inspect the wand for blockages. Check your cleaner head for blockages, following the instructions to remove the brush bar if necessary.
  • Reassemble your machine: Refit all parts securely before using your machine again. Clearing blockages is not covered by your guarantee.

Clearing blockages from your Hair screw tool

Your Hair screw tool does not have a washable brush bar. To maintain optimal performance, regularly check and clear any obstructions from the brush bar.

  • Remove the cover and brush bar: Detach the Hair screw tool from the wand or machine. Push the base plate open and press the red lever down to release the cleaner head cover. Pull the cleaner head cover off the main body of the tool.
  • Look for obstructions: Pull your brush bar firmly to remove it from the main body. Check and remove any obstructions from all three parts of the Hair screw tool. The Hair screw tool itself is not washable; wipe it with a damp, lint-free cloth. Do not place any part of your machine in a dishwasher or use detergents, polishes, or air fresheners.
  • Reassemble Hair screw tool: Place your brush bar back into position and press firmly until it clicks. Ensure the red locking lever is unlocked. Align the cleaner head cover with the guide on the main body and push it down until it clicks. Push the red locking lever up until it clicks, then push the base plate back into place.

Washing your filter

To maintain optimum suction power, wash your filter at least once a month. For more information and support videos, visit the Dyson website.

  • Twist off your filter: Twist your filter anti-clockwise and pull it away from your machine.
  • Tap your filter: Before washing, tap the filter gently over a bin to remove any loose dust and debris.
  • Wash your filter: Wash with warm, running tap water, gently rubbing the filter with your fingers to remove dirt.
  • Fill and shake: Place your hand over one end of the filter and fill it with warm tap water. Place your hand over the open end and shake it firmly to remove trapped dirt and debris. Repeat these steps until the water runs clear.
  • Shake and dry: Empty the filter and shake firmly to remove excess water, continuing until no water emerges. Place the filter upright and leave it to dry for at least 24 hours in a well-ventilated, warm place. Do not dry your filter in a tumble dryer, microwave, or near a naked flame. It is crucial that your filter is completely dry before refitting to prevent damage to your machine.

Washing your brush bar

To maintain optimum performance, check and wash your brush bar regularly. Ensure your machine is disconnected from the charger before proceeding.

  • Remove your brush bar: Do not put any part of your machine in a dishwasher or use detergents, polishes, or air fresheners. Press the cleaner head release button on the end of the wand and place the cleaner head upside down. Push the end cap up fully and pull the brush bar out of the cleaner head. Remove the end cap from the brush bar; do not wash the end cap. Slide your brush bar out of the cleaner head.
  • Wash and dry your brush bar: Hold your brush bar under running water and gently rub to remove any lint or dirt. Stand the brush bar upright and leave it to dry completely for at least 24 hours.
  • Replace your brush bar: Before replacing, confirm that your brush bar is completely dry. Reattach the end cap to your brush bar. Slide your brush bar back into the cleaner head and push the end cap down to the closed position. The cleaner head housing is not washable and should only be wiped with a damp, lint-free cloth.

Scratch-free dusting brush

This tool is compatible with Dyson V15 Detect™, Dyson V12 Detect Slim™, Dyson V12 Origin, Dyson Outsize™, Dyson V11™, Dyson Cyclone V10™, Dyson V8™, Dyson V7™, and Dyson Digital Slim™ cordless vacuums.

  • Step 1: Attach the Scratch-free dusting brush directly to your vacuum or to the extension hose for delicate cleaning.
  • Step 2: With the extension hose attached, switch on your vacuum. Hold the vacuum with one hand and the Scratch-free dusting brush with your other, using a pencil-like grip. Avoid pressing the brush too hard against surfaces; only the ultra-soft bristles should contact the surface.

Self-cleaning

  • Step 1: If dust builds up on the bristles during or after use, use the built-in self-cleaning function.
  • Step 2: With the vacuum switched on, lift the cleaning cuff until it clicks, completely covering the bristles. Rotate the cuff five times. This hygienically cleans the bristles and sucks the dust into the bin.
  • Step 3: After five rotations, move the cleaning cuff back down until it clicks. Your bristles are now dust-free. Note: Only use the self-cleaning function when the brush is attached directly to the vacuum.

Awkward gap tool

This tool is compatible with Dyson V15 Detect™, Dyson V12 Detect Slim™, Dyson V12 Origin, Dyson Outsize™, Dyson V11™, Dyson Cyclone V10™, Dyson V8™, Dyson V7™, and Dyson Digital Slim™ cordless vacuums.

  • Step 1: Attach the Awkward gap tool directly to your vacuum.
  • Step 2: For cleaning standard surfaces, such as skirting boards, use the tool in its original, straight position.
  • Step 3: To reach tight or awkward gaps, rotate the tool to its 22° angle until you hear a click. This allows for extended reach and more effective cleaning.

Maintenance tip: To clean, wipe the tool with a damp cloth.

Cleaning your tools
