DIRECTV Plus HD DVR Quick Start Guide

Welcome to the DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR. This guide will help you get started with watching TV and recording your favorite programs.

Getting Started

Once your DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR system is properly connected, you're ready to begin watching TV.

Turning on your DIRECTV Plus HD DVR

Set the MODE switch on the remote control to the DIRECTV position, then press PWR [Power Button].

Using the Quick Menu and Guide

Access the Quick Menu by pressing the MENU [Menu Button] button on your remote. To access what is showing on DIRECTV, press GUIDE [Guide Button] twice. To learn more, refer to the DIRECTV Plus HD DVR User Guide you received from your installer. Press EXIT to leave any screen and return to watching TV.

Taking Control of Your TV

Use the DVR control buttons for various functions:

  • PLAY/SLOW MOTION ▶️: Starts recorded video or paused live TV. Hold for slow motion.
  • PAUSE ⏸️: Freezes live or prerecorded TV. Use FFWD or REW to move frame by frame.
  • FFWD ⏩: Fast-forwards recorded or live-stored video.
  • REW ⏪: Rewinds recorded or live-stored video.
  • RECORD ?: Automatically records live TV.
  • STOP ⏹️: Stops playback of recorded TV.
  • REPLAY ↩️: Jumps back 6 seconds. Hold to jump to the beginning.
  • ADVANCE ⏭️: Jumps ahead 30 seconds. Hold to jump to the end.

The Control Bar appears as a quick reference showing program title, progress, start time, and storage status.

Recording Programs

This section covers how to record and watch recorded shows.

Recording a Program You're Currently Watching

  1. To record the program you're watching, simply press the RECORD [Record Button] button once on your remote.
  2. Pressing the RECORD [Record Button] button a second time will offer options: KEEP RECORDING, STOP & KEEP, or STOP & DELETE.

You can record up to 2 programs at once. This may require multiple satellite inputs.

Recording Current and Future Programs from the Guide

  1. To find a program, press the GUIDE [Guide Button] button twice.
  2. Use the ARROW [Arrow Keys] buttons to highlight the show, then press RECORD [Record Button]. The Record Icon will appear.

Recording an Entire Season of Your Favorite Show

  1. Find the show in the Guide. Highlight it and press RECORD [Record Button].
  2. For episodic programs, press RECORD [Record Button] a second time to enable the [Series Link™] feature, which records all episodes even if the time slot changes.
  3. Press RECORD [Record Button] a third time to cancel the recording.

Note: [Series Link™] cannot be set for movies, sporting events, or news once they have begun playing.

Finding a Program to Record by Title, Person, Keyword, or Channel

  1. To bring up Quick Menu options, press MENU [Menu Button] on your remote.
  2. Use the ARROW [Arrow Keys] buttons to highlight SEARCH in the Quick Menu, then press SELECT [Select Button].
  3. Highlight a show to display its information and press RECORD [Record Button] to record it.

Watching and Deleting a Program You've Recorded

  1. Press LIST [List Button] to access your recorded shows in your Playlist, or MyVOD™.
  2. Use the ARROW [Arrow Keys] buttons to select the show, then press PLAY [Play Button].
  3. To delete a show, find it using the ARROW [Arrow Keys] buttons, then press the DASH [Dash Button] button twice to delete.

Accessing Your To Do List

Your To Do List shows programs scheduled for recording.

  1. Press LIST [List Button] to access recorded shows.
  2. Press the YELLOW [Yellow Button] button to bring up your To Do List.
  3. Navigate the list using the ARROW [Arrow Keys] buttons.

Note: Use the BACK button to return to a previous screen.

Making Specific Changes to Your Recording Options

Adjust recording times (e.g., start 10 minutes early, stop 5 minutes later).

  1. Press LIST [List Button], then the YELLOW [Yellow Button] button.
  2. Highlight the show and press SELECT [Select Button].
  3. Highlight RECORD in the menu and press SELECT [Select Button].
  4. Adjust options, then highlight UPDATE and press SELECT [Select Button].

Knowing Your DIRECTV Plus HD DVR

This section details the features of your HD DVR.

DIRECTV Plus HD DVR Features

  • Channel Banner: Appears when tuning to a channel, showing program details. Also appears when pressing the INFO [Info Button] button.
  • Quick Menu: Access DIRECTV features by pressing the MENU [Menu Button] button.
  • Onscreen Guide: Displays program listings for up to 14 days. Use RED [Red Button] and GREEN [Green Button] buttons to skip 12 hours. Press GUIDE [Guide Button] to display.
  • Mini Guide: Shows one channel at a time, allowing you to watch live TV full screen. Bring up by pressing the BLUE [Blue Button] button.

DIRECTV Plus HD DVR Features (Continued)

  • Search for Programs: Find programs by title, person, keyword, or channel via the MENU [Menu Button] -> SEARCH option.
  • Recording Programs: Record up to two programs simultaneously. Refer to page 6 for details.
  • Playlist: Access recorded programs via the LIST [List Button] button. View scheduled recordings by pressing the YELLOW [Yellow Button] button for the To Do List.
