Getting Started

This section guides you through the basic preparations before using your Rider 20+.

Your Rider 20+

The Rider 20+ device features several buttons for navigation and control:

  • 1 BACK [BACK]: Press to return to the previous page or cancel an operation. When recording, press to pause recording, and press again to stop recording.
  • 2 LAP/OK [LAP/OK]: Press and hold to turn the device on/off. In Menu, press to enter or confirm a selection. In free cycling, press to start recording. When recording, press to mark the lap.
  • 3 PAGE [PAGE]: In Menu, press to move down to scroll through menu options. In Meter view, press to switch meter screen pages. Press and hold to enter the Shortcut page.

The device display shows key metrics such as Speed, Distance, and Ride Time. For example, a typical display might show Speed: 28.5 km/h, Distance: 17.3 km, and Ride Time: 00:36:28.

Australian Consumer Law

Bryton goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Laws. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for other foreseeable loss or damage. Goods can be repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Step 1: Charge your Rider 20+

Connect the Rider 20+ to a PC to charge the battery for at least 3 hours. Unplug the device when fully charged. The charging process is illustrated by connecting the device via a USB cable to a computer, with the website bb.brytonsport.com indicated.

Step 2: Turn On Rider 20+

Press and hold the [LAP/OK] button to turn the device on.

Step 3: Initial Setup

Upon first power-on, a setup wizard will guide you through:

  1. Selecting the display language.
  2. Selecting daylight saving time.
  3. Selecting the unit of measurement.
  4. Entering your "user profile" (Gender, Height, Weight). Accurate data input is recommended for training analysis.
  5. Reading and accepting the Safety Agreement.

Step 4: Acquire Satellite Signals

The Rider 20+ automatically searches for satellite signals upon turning on. This may take 30-60 seconds. A GPS signal icon [GPS icon] appears when GPS is fixed. If not fixed, a [question mark icon] appears.

Step 5: Ride Your Bike with Rider 20+

  • Free ride: Select 'Meter' from the menu and start free ride.
  • Record data: In meter view, press [LAP/OK] to start recording, [BACK] to pause, and [BACK] again to stop.
  • Start a training: Select 'Train' from the menu. Training can be based on time, distance, calories burned, or saved workouts.

Reset Rider 20+

To reset the Rider 20+, long press all three keys ([BACK], [LAP/OK], [PAGE]) simultaneously.

How to connect your device with brytonsport.com

  1. Download Bryton Bridge 2: Visit www.brytonsport.com/help/start to download and install Bryton Bridge 2 following on-screen instructions.
  2. Register an Account: Create an account at www.brytonsport.com, providing accurate personal information.
  3. Connect to PC: Turn on your Rider 20+ and connect it to your computer via USB cable.
  4. Share Your Experience: Share your experiences with other bikers at www.brytonsport.com. For more instructions, visit corp.brytonsport.com > Support > Tutorial.

Training

Bicycling is an excellent exercise for burning calories, losing weight, and improving fitness. The Rider 20+ allows you to set simple workouts and track your progress.

Simple Workouts

You can set workouts based on time, distance, or calories. To set a time-based workout:

  1. From the main screen, navigate to 'Train' using the [PAGE] button and press [LAP/OK].
  2. In the Training menu, select 'To Plan' > 'Time' and press [LAP/OK].
  3. Use the [BACK]/[PAGE] buttons to set your desired time and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  4. A "Save to My Workout?" prompt will appear. Select 'Yes' and press [LAP/OK].
  5. Enter a workout name using the on-screen keyboard.
  6. To start the saved workout, go to 'Train' > 'Workouts', select the workout, and press [LAP/OK] to begin recording.

Using the On-screen Keyboard: Navigate characters using [BACK]/[PAGE], select DEL to erase, and [LAP/OK] to confirm. Select END and press [LAP/OK] to finish.

My Workout

Start workouts saved in the 'To Plan' menu:

  1. In the Training menu, select 'My Workout' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Select 'View' and press [LAP/OK] to enter the submenu.
  3. Select your desired training plan and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  4. Press [LAP/OK] to start training and record your log.

To delete workouts, select 'Delete' for individual workouts or 'Delete All' for all saved workouts.

Stop Training

To stop a current training session:

  1. Press [BACK] to pause recording, and press [BACK] again to stop.
  2. When prompted "Do you want to stop?", select 'Yes' using [BACK]/[PAGE] and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.

View Exercise/Training Record

View or delete your exercise/training history:

  1. From the main screen, navigate to 'History' > 'View' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Select 'View' and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  3. Select a training history from the list and press [LAP/OK] to view it.

History data can also be uploaded to brytonsport.com.

Delete History

To delete history:

  1. From the main screen, navigate to 'History' > 'View' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Select 'Delete' and press [LAP/OK] to enter the history list.
  3. Select a training history and press [LAP/OK] to delete it.
  4. When prompted "Do you want to delete?", select 'Yes' using [BACK]/[PAGE] and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.

History Flow

The History Flow screen displays trip details, average and maximum values (speed, heart rate, etc.), and lap information. An arrow icon indicates lap data availability.

Settings

Customize display settings, sensor settings, system settings, bike and user profiles, GPS setup, and view device information.

My Lap

Automatically mark laps at specific locations or after covering specific distances.

Lap by Location

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'My Lap' > 'By Location' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Select 'Detail info' and press [LAP/OK] to change the setting.
  3. Confirm "Use current location as lap location?" by selecting 'Yes' and pressing [LAP/OK].
  4. Press [BACK] to exit.

Note: If GPS signal is not fixed, a "No GPS signal" message appears. Ensure GPS is on and you are outdoors.

Lap by Distance

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'My Lap' > 'Distance' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Select 'Detail info' and press [LAP/OK] to change the setting.
  3. Select your desired distance using [BACK]/[PAGE] and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  4. Press [BACK] to exit.

Display

Configure display settings for Meter, Lap, and Auto Switch intervals.

Meter Display

Customize the data fields shown on meter screens (e.g., Current Time, Current Speed, Total Distance, Ride Time, Trip Time). You can select 2-grid or 3-grid displays.

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'Display' > 'Meter' > 'Meter 1', 'Meter 2', or 'Meter 3' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the number of data fields and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  3. Select the item field to customize using [PAGE] and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  4. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the desired setting and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  5. Press [BACK] to exit.

Lap Display

Configure lap display settings for Meter 1 and Meter 2.

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'Display' > 'LAP' > 'Meter 1' or 'Meter 2' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the number of data fields and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  3. Select the item field to customize using [PAGE] and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  4. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the desired setting and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  5. Press [BACK] to exit.

Auto Scroll

Configure auto scroll for screen transitions.

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'Display' > 'Auto scroll' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Select the setting to change (Auto scroll: enable/disable, Interval: set time) and press [LAP/OK] to enter its submenu.
  3. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to adjust the setting and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  4. Press [BACK] to exit.

Sensors

Customize sensor settings (enable/disable, rescan) for Heart Rate, Speed, Cadence, and Speed/CAD sensors.

  • Sensor Pairing: In the Settings menu, select 'Sensors' > [Sensor Type] and press [LAP/OK]. Select the desired setting (Rescan, Turn Off) and press [LAP/OK] to confirm. Press [BACK] to exit.
  • Note: Ensure no other sensors are within 5 meters during pairing. Paired sensors display their respective icons.

Personalize User Profile

Update your personal information:

  • In the Settings menu, select 'User' and press [LAP/OK].
  • Select the setting to change (Gender, Age, Height, Weight, Max HR, LTHR, FTP, MAP) and press [LAP/OK] to enter its submenu.
  • Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to adjust the setting and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  • Press [BACK] to exit.

Personalize Bike Profile

Customize and view your bicycle profiles.

  • In the Settings menu, select 'Bike' > 'Bike 1' or 'Bike 2' and press [LAP/OK].
  • Select the setting to change (Bike Type, Weight, Wheel size, Activate) and press [LAP/OK] to enter its submenu.
  • Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to adjust the setting and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  • Press [BACK] to exit.

View Bike Profile

View your bicycle's data:

  • In the Settings menu, select 'Bike' > 'Overview' and press [LAP/OK].
  • Select the desired bike and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  • Press [PAGE] to view more data.
  • Press [BACK] to exit.

Change System Settings

Customize system settings like backlight, self lap, key tone, beep, time/unit format, language, and data reset.

Backlight Off

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'System' > 'Backlight Off' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the desired setting (Auto, Never, 1 min, 10 min) and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  3. Press [BACK] to exit.

Key Tone

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'System' > 'Key Tone' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the desired setting (On, Off) and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  3. Press [BACK] to exit.

Alert

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'System' > 'Alert' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the desired setting (On, Off) and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  3. Press [BACK] to exit.

Time/Unit

Configure Daylight Save, Date format, Time format, and Unit (Metric/Imperial).

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'System' > 'Time/Unit' > [Setting Type] and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the desired setting/format and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  3. Press [BACK] to exit.

Language

  1. In the Settings menu, select 'System' > 'Language' and press [LAP/OK].
  2. Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the desired language (English, Deutsch, Français) and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  3. Press [BACK] to exit.

My Device Manager

Manage your device and tracks using Bryton Bridge 2.

  1. Download Bryton Bridge 2 (see page 7).
  2. Connect your Rider 20+ to your computer via USB cable. My Device Manager should launch automatically. If not, right-click the Bryton Bridge icon and select 'Open my device manager'.
  3. Specify the file format (BDX, GPX, TCX, PWF) and location to save tracks on your computer. The software displays device information like UUID, Software Version, and number of tracks.
  4. Click 'Save' to save the file.

View GPS Status

Check your device's GPS signal information.

  • In the Settings menu, select 'Status' and press [LAP/OK].
  • To set the signal search mode, press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  • Use [BACK]/[PAGE] to select the desired setting (Off, Full Power, PowerSaving) and press [LAP/OK] to confirm.
  • GPS Modes:
    • Off: Disables GPS to save power when signal is unavailable or not needed.
    • Full Power: Maximizes position and speed accuracy but consumes more power.
    • PowerSaving: Balances battery life with accuracy, best in good GPS signal conditions.

View Software Version

View your device's current software version.

  • In the Settings menu, select 'About' and press [LAP/OK].
  • The current software version will be displayed. Press [BACK] to exit.

Accuracy may be degraded by poor sensor contact, electrical interference, and receiver distance from the transmitter.

Battery Information

The heart rate monitor/cadence sensor uses a user-replaceable CR2032 battery.

To replace the battery:

  1. Locate the circular battery cover on the back of the sensor.
  2. Use a coin to twist the cover counter-clockwise until the arrow points to OPEN.
  3. Remove the cover and battery. Wait for 30 seconds.
  4. Insert the new battery with the positive connector first.
  5. Use a coin to twist the cover clockwise until the arrow points to CLOSE.

Note: Ensure correct battery orientation to prevent damage. Be careful not to damage the O-ring gasket. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

Install Rider 20+

Mounting the Rider 20+ to the bike involves these steps:

  1. Attach the mount base to the handlebar.
  2. Secure the mount with the provided strap.
  3. Insert the Rider 20+ into the mount, twisting to lock it in place.
  4. The device is now mounted on the bike.

Install the Speed/Cadence/Dual Sensor (Optional)

Follow these steps for sensor installation:

  • Sensor Alignment: Align the sensor and magnet as shown in illustrations (5a/5b), ensuring the distance is within 3 mm. Speed and cadence sensors should be aligned horizontally.
  • Activation: On initial use, press the front button to activate the sensor and start pedaling. The LED blinks once when the magnet is detected, indicating correct alignment (blinks for the first ten passes after button press).
  • Pairing: After installation, pair the sensors with the Rider 20+ via the device's settings menu. The device will display the sensor status (active) and ID.

Install Heart Rate Belt (Optional)

To install the heart rate belt:

  1. Attach the strap around your chest, ensuring the sensor is positioned slightly below the chest with the Bryton logo facing upward.
  2. Tighten the elastic belt firmly.
  3. Wear appropriate clothing in cold weather.
  4. If the sensor is not detected or readings are abnormal, warm up for about 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the sensor from the belt when not in use for an extended period.

Basic Care For Your Rider 20+

Proper care reduces the risk of device damage:

  • Do not drop or subject the device to severe shock.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures and excessive moisture.
  • The screen can be scratched; use non-adhesive screen protectors.
  • Clean the device with a soft cloth and diluted neutral detergent.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the device, as this will void the warranty.

Note: Improper battery replacement can cause explosions. Use only the manufacturer-specified battery. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.
