Nokia Lumia is the smartphone reinvented!
Introduction to Windows Phone 8 and Nokia Lumia
Windows Phone 8 has been officially revealed by Microsoft at an exclusive event in San Francisco. Nokia joined the announcement, showcasing its family of Lumia phones running Windows Phone 8. These include the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 available on AT&T, the Nokia Lumia 810 on T-Mobile USA, and the newly announced Nokia Lumia 822 on Verizon Wireless.

Joe Belfiore, Manager of the Windows Phone program at Microsoft, led the event, discussing the evolution of smartphones. He noted that the predominant user experience on most smartphones today was standardized by Apple and the iPhone, and subsequently copied by Android. Belfiore suggested that this interface has not evolved significantly, with a static grid of icons remaining the standard.
The Most Personal Smartphone Experience
Windows Phone 8 is presented as drastically different, with an operating system designed to focus on the user and provide a personal experience. Belfiore stated, "Windows Phone is unlike any other mobile operating system. The idea is you can find the things and people you care about and put them front and center in your experience... It's a unique reflection of who you are."

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer emphasized that the operating system is only one part of the overall experience. He highlighted "new killer hardware," arguing it is among the best available in any smartphone form factor. Ballmer then showcased the new Nokia Lumia 920 in a striking yellow color, describing it as "fantastic" and stating, "Seeing is really believing with this phone."
Hardware Innovations and Features
Microsoft's CEO praised the Nokia Lumia's super sensitive PureMotion HD+ screen and the award-winning PureView technology. He highlighted that it is "the only smartphone in the world that includes optical image stabilization that captures great photos and videos even in low light or with a shaky hand."
Nokia is also noted for its pioneering work on wireless charging, allowing users to simply place their phone on a charger to power up.

Great New Features
Nokia's contributions extend beyond hardware to the Windows Phone ecosystem. This includes providing the entire mapping infrastructure through Nokia Maps and enhancing user experience with apps and services like Nokia Drive, Nokia City Lens, Nokia Transport, and Nokia Music.
An exciting new feature in Windows Phone 8 is Data Sense, designed to help users better manage their data. A Live Tile provides precise information about phone data usage, and Microsoft anticipates up to 45% more web browsing on the same data plan as users gain confidence in not exceeding their limits.
Additional Features and Availability
Verizon Wireless is the first mobile operator to support Data Sense, making users of the new Nokia Lumia 822 among the first to experience this feature.
Other notable features of Windows Phone 8 include:
- Kids Corner: A safe environment for children to use the phone without accidentally deleting important information or sending unintended messages.
- Rooms: A feature that facilitates easy sharing and connection with select groups of friends, colleagues, or family members.
Microsoft also announced new exciting apps such as Angry Birds Star Wars, Pandora, Urbanspoon, and Living Social. The upcoming Skype app will enable users to make and receive Skype calls, including video calls, similar to regular phone calls, leveraging the crisp front cameras on the new Nokia Lumia devices.
