Procedure
Care must be taken when installing this accessory to ensure damage does not occur to the vehicle. The installation of this accessory should follow approved guidelines to ensure a quality installation.
These guidelines can be found in the "Accessory Installation Practices" document.
This document covers such items as:
- Vehicle Protection (use of covers and blankets, cleaning chemicals, etc.).
- Safety (eye protection, rechecking torque procedure, etc.).
- Vehicle Disassembly/Reassembly (panel removal, part storage, etc.).
- Electrical Component Disassembly/Reassembly (battery disconnection, connector removal, etc.).

1. Install Mounting Brackets.
STOP (a) Follow the Installation Procedures and be careful not to scratch the vehicle.
(b) During installation, always wear safety glasses. ?
(c) Bracket installation.
! (1) Locate the thread mounting holes on the passenger side D-Pillar.
! (2) Using the center punch, carefully mark the center of the three mounting holes (Fig. 1-1).
! (3) Drill the three holes through the center point just marked with a 6.0 mm drill bit (Fig. 1-2). Set drill stop to 1" (Fig. 1-3).
! (4) Debur the holes just drilled and apply sealant around the holes.
a. deburred, and sealant is applied, remove the vehicle protection and vacuum and shavings in the bed.
! (5) Ensure bracket orientation is correct, see Fig 1-4 shows driver side and Fig 1-5 shows passenger side.
! (6) Prepare the rivet gun tool. Apply electrical tape or friction tape to tool shaft to avoid damage to painted brackets. See Fig. 1-6, light shade shows taped area.
! (7) Using the rivet gun or handheld rivet tool, and the shoulder spacer, secure the three rivets (Fig. 1-7).
a. Figure 1-7 shows the handheld rivet tool no shoulder spacer.
b. Figures 1-8 and 1-9 show a rivet gun with the shoulder spacer.
! (8) Use the supplied rivet tool when securing the rivets shown in figure 1-8 & 1-9.
(9) Repeat steps 1-10 for the passenger's side.
2. Install Bed Extender.
NOTE: Do not allow bare metal to be exposed.
(1) To install, rotate the Bed Extender 55° from the tailgate and slide the pivots into mounting brackets as shown in (Fig. 2-1).
a. Adjust the strap length and position, to allow locking strap buckles to lock into the tailgate (Fig. 2-2). Listen for an audible "click" to ensure the buckle is properly inserted into the tailgate latch on both sides.
b. To remove, rotate Bed Extender 55° from tailgate and slide pivots out of mounting brackets. Make sure that the two straps are facing rearward.
NOTE: It is normal for the Bed Extender to have some resistance when first rotated in the bracket.
NOTE: Tapping with excessive force may damage the bed extender and/or vehicle. Be careful not to scratch the center tubes.

3. Care Card.
(a) Rotate the Bed Extender 180° so that it is resting in the bed of the truck and not on the tailgate.
(b) Close the tailgate.
! (c) Place care card into glove box (Fig 3-1).
Checklist

- Tailgate strap adjustment.
Look For:
- Bed extender pivot point must rest in mounting brackets.
- Tailgate straps must be able to lock into tailgate locks.
Vehicle Function Checks
- Upright foot positioning on tailgate.
Look For:
- Ensure that upright feet sit properly on tailgate edge.
