Safety
Fundamental Safety Warnings
Gevaar! As the appliance operates on electricity, there is a risk of electric shock. Always follow these safety precautions:
- Do not touch the appliance with wet hands or feet.
- Never touch the plug with wet hands.
- Ensure you can always easily access the plug to disconnect it.
- To unplug, pull the plug itself, never the cable, as this can damage the cable.
- To completely disconnect the appliance, switch off the main switch on the back of the appliance to the 'O' position (Fig. 3).
- Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself. Switch it off, unplug it, and take it to Technical Service.
- If the plug or cable is damaged, it must only be replaced by De'Longhi Technical Service to avoid risks.
Attentie! Keep packaging materials (plastic bags, expanded polystyrene) out of reach of children.

Control Lamp Descriptions

Before Use
Checking the Appliance
After unpacking, check that the appliance is intact and that all accessories are present. Do not use the appliance if it is visibly damaged. Contact De'Longhi Technical Service.
Installing the Appliance
Attentie! When installing the appliance, observe the following safety warnings:
- The appliance can be damaged if water inside freezes. Do not install it in areas where the temperature can drop below freezing point.
- The appliance emits heat. Ensure there is a clearance of approximately 3 cm between the appliance surfaces and the side/rear walls, and at least 15 cm above the appliance.
- If water seeps into the appliance, it can cause damage. Do not place the appliance near water taps or sinks.
- Position the cable so it is not damaged by sharp edges or hot surfaces (e.g., electric plates).
Connecting the Appliance
Attentie! Check that the mains voltage corresponds to the value indicated on the rating plate on the underside of the appliance. Connect the appliance only to a properly installed socket that meets current regulations, has a minimum rating of 10A, and an efficient earth connection. If the socket is incompatible with the plug, have it replaced by qualified personnel with a suitable type.
First-Time Use
i Nota Bene: The machine was tested at the factory with coffee. Therefore, it is normal to find coffee residues in the grinder. We guarantee that the appliance is new.
We recommend adjusting the water hardness as soon as possible by following the procedure described in the 'Programming water hardness' section (page 15).
Follow the instructions provided:
- Remove the water reservoir and fill it with fresh water up to the MAX level (Fig. 1A). Reinsert the reservoir (Fig. 1B).
- Place a container with at least 100 ml capacity under the cappuccino system (Fig. 2).
- Connect the appliance to the mains and switch on the main switch on the back of the appliance (Fig. 3).
- The control lamp on the control panel will flash (Fig. 4).
- Turn the steam knob to the 'I' position (Fig. 5): the appliance will dispense water from the cappuccino system and then switch off.
- Turn the steam knob back to the 'O' position. The appliance is now ready for normal use.
i Nota Bene: For the first use, it is necessary to make 4-5 cups of coffee or cappuccino before the machine delivers satisfactory results.
Switching the Appliance On
i Nota Bene: Before switching on the appliance, check that the main switch on the back of the appliance is in the 'I' position (Fig. 3).
Each time the appliance is switched on, it automatically performs a pre-heating and rinsing cycle that cannot be interrupted. The appliance is ready for use only after these cycles are completed.
Gevaar brandwonden! During rinsing, a small amount of hot water may exit the brew group and collect in the drip tray below. Avoid contact with water splashes.
- Press the button (Fig. 6) to switch on the appliance: the corresponding indicator light will flash while the appliance heats up and performs the automatic rinse cycle (this heats the boiler and also heats the internal pipes). The appliance reaches the correct temperature when the indicator light goes out and the indicator lights for the coffee dispensing buttons come on.
Switching the Appliance Off
Each time the appliance is switched off, it performs an automatic rinse cycle that cannot be interrupted.
Gevaar brandwonden! During rinsing, a small amount of hot water may exit the brew group. Avoid contact with water splashes. To switch off the appliance, press the button (Fig. 6). The appliance will perform the rinse cycle and then switch off.
i Nota Bene: If the appliance is not used for a long time, switch off the main switch to the 'O' position (Fig. 3).
Attentie! To avoid damaging the appliance, only set the main switch to 'O' (Fig. 3) after the appliance has been switched off using the button.
Automatic Shut-off
The appliance is pre-set to switch off automatically after 2 hours of inactivity. This interval can be changed to switch off the appliance after 15 or 30 minutes, or 1, 2, or 3 hours.
- Press the button until the indicator lights come on.
- Press the button (to the left of the knob) until the indicator lights for the desired automatic shut-off time are fully lit:
- 15 minutes ECO
- 30 minutes ECO
- 1 hour ECO
- 2 hours ECO
- 3 hours ECO
- Press the button (to the right of the knob) to confirm; the indicator lights will go out.
Energy Saving
This function allows you to activate or deactivate the energy-saving mode. When the function is active, energy consumption is reduced in compliance with European standards.
The energy-saving function is active when the green ECO indicator light is on (Fig. 7).
- Press and hold the button while the appliance is switched off but the main switch is in the 'I' position (Fig. 3), until the ECO indicator light comes on (Fig. 7).
- To deactivate the function, press the button (to the left of the knob): the ECO indicator light will flash.
- To reactivate the function, press the button (to the left of the knob) again: the ECO indicator light will light up steadily.
- Press the button (to the right of the knob) to confirm your choice: the ECO indicator light will go out.
i Nota Bene: When using the energy-saving function, you may need to wait a few seconds longer for the first cup of coffee as the machine needs more time to heat up.
Water Softener Filter
Some models are equipped with a water softener filter. If your model does not have one, we recommend purchasing one from authorized De'Longhi centers.
Attentie: Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Use the filter immediately after opening the packaging. Remove the filter before descaling the appliance. Follow the instructions below for correct filter use.
Installing the Filter
- Remove the filter from the packaging and rinse it with approximately 0.5 L of running water (Fig. 8).
- Turn the date dial to show the next 2 months of use (Fig. 9).
i Nota Bene: The filter has a lifespan of two months with normal use. If the appliance is not used while the filter is installed, its lifespan is a maximum of three weeks.
- Remove the appliance's water reservoir and fill it with water (Fig. 1A).
- Immerse the filter in the water reservoir, holding it at an angle to allow air bubbles to escape (Fig. 10).
- Insert the filter into its housing, pushing it in firmly (Fig. 11).
- Replace the reservoir lid (Fig. 12), then reinsert the reservoir into the appliance.
- Place a container with at least 100 ml of liquid under the cappuccino system.
- Turn the steam knob to position 'I' to dispense hot water.
- Allow the appliance to dispense hot water for a few seconds until the water flow is stable, then turn the knob back to position 'O'.
i Nota Bene: It may be necessary to dispense hot water more than once to install the filter correctly. If the control lamps light up during installation, repeat from step 8. The filter is now activated and the appliance can be used.
Removing and Replacing the Water Softener Filter
After two months (see date indicator), or if the appliance has not been used for 3 weeks, remove the filter from the reservoir and replace it with a new one. Repeat the procedure described in the previous section.
Making Coffee
Selecting Coffee Aroma
Use the coffee aroma selection knob (B6) to set the desired aroma: the further the knob is turned clockwise, the more coffee beans are ground, resulting in a stronger coffee aroma.
Turning the knob to MIN provides a light coffee; turning it to MAX provides a strong coffee.
Coffee Grinding Adjustment
The coffee grinder does not need to be adjusted initially, as it is factory-set for correct coffee output. If the desired result is not achieved after the first few coffees, adjust the grinding fineness using the knob (Fig. 13).
i Nota Bene: The adjustment knob should only be turned while the coffee grinder is operating.
- If the coffee flows too slowly or only drips, turn the adjustment knob one click clockwise (Fig. 8). To obtain stronger, creamier coffee, turn the knob one click counter-clockwise (do not turn more than one click at a time, as this may cause coffee to drip slowly).
- The coffee grinder does not need to be adjusted initially, as it is factory-set for correct coffee output. If the desired result is not achieved after the first few coffees, repeat the adjustment by turning the knob one more click.
Selecting Coffee Quantity per Cup
The appliance is factory-set for automatic dispensing of the following coffee quantities:
- Espresso when the button is pressed (approx. 40ml).
- Regular coffee when the button is pressed (approx. 120ml).
- Two espressos when the button is pressed.
- Two regular coffees when the button is pressed.
To change the coffee quantity dispensed automatically:
- Press and hold the button for the quantity you wish to change. The corresponding indicator light will flash, and the machine will start dispensing coffee. Release the button.
- When the coffee reaches the desired level in the cup, press the same button again to save the new quantity. The machine has now stored the new setting. By pressing this button, the machine will dispense the new stored quantity.
For a warmer coffee, refer to the 'Tips for warmer coffee' section.
Attentie! If the coffee drips slowly or is not strong and creamy, or is too cold, consult the 'Troubleshooting' chapter (page 18).
During use, indicator lights on the control panel may illuminate, the meaning of which is described in the 'Meaning of the control lamps' section (page 17).
Making Coffee with Whole Beans
Attentie! Do not use caramelized or candied coffee beans, as they can stick to the grinder and damage it.
- Fill the coffee bean reservoir (Fig. 9).
- Place cups under the coffee spouts:
- 1 cup if you want 1 cup (Fig. 10).
- 2 cups if you want 2 cups (Fig. 11).
- Lower the brew group so it is as close to the cups as possible for better crema (Fig. 12).
- Press the button corresponding to the desired dispensing:
- 1 espresso
- 1 regular coffee
- 2 espressos
- 2 regular coffees
- Dispensing begins, and the indicator light corresponding to the selected button remains lit on the control panel. Once the coffee is brewed, the appliance is ready for reuse.
i Nota Bene: While the machine is brewing coffee, dispensing can be interrupted at any time by pressing one of the two coffee dispensing buttons. Once dispensing is complete, simply press and hold one of the coffee dispensing buttons (within 3 seconds) if you want a larger quantity.
i Nota Bene: For warmer coffee, refer to the 'Tips for warmer coffee' section.
Making Coffee with Pre-ground Coffee
Attentie! Never add whole coffee beans to the pre-ground coffee funnel, as this could damage the machine. Never add pre-ground coffee to a switched-off appliance, as this could spill coffee inside the machine and cause damage. Use only one level measuring spoon of pre-ground coffee to avoid soiling the machine and clogging the funnel.
i Nota Bene: When using pre-ground coffee, only one cup of coffee can be prepared at a time.
- Ensure the appliance is switched on.
- Turn the coffee taste selector knob counter-clockwise to the end stop, to the position (Fig. 18).
- Ensure the funnel is not clogged and add one level measuring spoon of pre-ground coffee (Fig. 19).
- Place a cup under the brew group spouts.
- Press the button for 1 cup dispensing or . Dispensing begins.
Preparing Cappuccino
Gevaar brandwonden! Steam is released during these operations: be careful not to get burned.
- Prepare the coffee in a large cup for a cappuccino.
- Fill a jug (preferably with a handle to avoid burns) with about 100g of milk for each cappuccino. Consider the jug size, as the milk volume will increase by 2 to 3 times.
i Nota Bene: For thicker, richer foam, use skimmed or semi-skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature (approx. 5°C). To avoid milk with little foam or large bubbles, always clean the milk frother after use as described in the 'Cleaning the milk frother after use' section.
- Press the button: the indicator light will flash.
- Insert the milk frother into the milk jug (Fig. 20).
- After a few seconds, when the indicator light flashes, turn the steam knob to position 'I' (Fig. 5). Steam will be released from the milk frother, making the milk creamy and increasing its volume.
- For even creamier foam, rotate the jug with slow upward and downward movements. (It is recommended not to dispense steam for more than 3 minutes continuously).
- When the desired foam is obtained, stop the steam output by turning the steam knob to 'O'.
Gevaar brandwonden! Turn off the steam before removing the jug with frothed milk to avoid burns from boiling milk splashes.
- Add the frothed milk to the previously prepared coffee. Your cappuccino is ready: add sugar to taste and sprinkle the foam with cocoa powder if desired.
Cleaning the Cappuccino System After Use
Clean the milk frother after each use to prevent milk residue and clogging.
- Place a container under the milk frother and dispense a small amount of water by turning the steam knob to position 'I' (Fig. 5). Then turn the steam knob back to position 'O' to stop the hot water output.
- Wait a few minutes for the milk frother to cool down; hold the handle of the milk frother with one hand, and with the other hand, turn the milk frother counter-clockwise and pull it down (Fig. 21).
- Also remove the steam pipe by pulling it downwards (Fig. 22).
- Check that the holes indicated by the arrow in Fig. 23 are not clogged. Clean them with a pin if necessary.
- Wash the cappuccino system components carefully with a sponge and lukewarm water.
- Reinsert the steam pipe and then the milk frother onto the steam pipe, pushing it up and turning it clockwise until it locks into place.
Preparing Hot Water
Gevaar brandwonden! Do not leave the appliance unattended when dispensing hot water. The hot water spout becomes hot during dispensing, so only handle it by the grip.
- Place a container under the cappuccino system (as close as possible to prevent splashing).
- Turn the steam knob to position 'I': dispensing begins.
- Stop dispensing by turning the steam knob back to position 'O'.
i Nota Bene: If the 'Energy saving' function is activated, it may take a few seconds for hot water to be dispensed.
Cleaning
Cleaning the Appliance
The following parts of the appliance require periodic cleaning:
- Drip tray (A13)
- Drip tray (A17) and drip tray (A14)
- Water reservoir (A9)
- Coffee spout outlets (A12)
- Funnel for inserting pre-ground coffee (A6)
- Inside of the machine (accessible after opening the brew group door) (A10)
- Brew group (A11)
Attentie! Do not use solvents, abrasive cleaners, or alcohol for cleaning the machine. De'Longhi super-automatic appliances do not require chemical additives for cleaning. The descaling solution recommended by De'Longhi is based on natural components and is fully biodegradable. No appliance part should be washed in a dishwasher. Do not use metal objects to remove caked-on dirt or coffee residue, as this could scratch the metal or plastic surfaces.
Cleaning the Drip Tray
When the indicator light (:::::) flashes, the drip tray needs to be emptied and cleaned. The indicator light will continue to flash, and the appliance cannot brew coffee until the drip tray is cleaned.
- To clean (while the appliance is switched on):
- Remove the drip tray (Fig. 24), empty and clean it.
- Empty and clean the coffee dump box carefully, ensuring all residue at the bottom is removed.
- Check the red float and empty it if full.
Attentie! When removing the drip tray, it is mandatory to always empty the coffee dump box, even if it is not very full. If this is not done, it is possible that when brewing more cups of coffee, the coffee dump box will become fuller than intended, causing the machine to become clogged.
Cleaning the Inside of the Appliance
Gevaar op elektrische schokken! Before cleaning the internal parts, switch off the appliance (see 'Switching off') and disconnect it from the mains. Never immerse the appliance in water.
- Regularly (approximately once a month) check the inside of the appliance (accessible only after removing the drip tray) for dirt. If necessary, remove coffee residues with a brush and sponge.
- Vacuum up any residues (Fig. 26).
Cleaning the Water Reservoir
Regularly (approximately once a month) clean the water reservoir (A9) with a damp cloth and a mild detergent.
Cleaning the Coffee Spout Outlets
- Clean the coffee group outlets with a sponge or cloth (Fig. 27).
- Check that the coffee spout holes are not clogged. If necessary, remove coffee deposits with a toothpick (Fig. 28).
Cleaning the Pre-ground Coffee Funnel
Regularly (approximately once a month) check that the funnel for inserting pre-ground coffee is not clogged. Remove coffee residues if necessary.
Cleaning the Brew Group
The brew group (A11) must be cleaned at least once a month.
Attentie! The brew group cannot be removed when the appliance is switched on.
- Ensure the appliance is correctly switched off (see 'Switching off the appliance', page 10).
- Remove the water reservoir.
- Open the brew group door (Fig. 29) on the right side.
- Press the two red release buttons inwards and simultaneously pull the brew group outwards (Fig. 30).
Attentie! Clean the brew group without using cleaning agents, as they can be harmful.
- Immerse the brew group in water for about 5 minutes and then rinse it under the tap.
- Remove any coffee residue from the brew group support.
- After cleaning, reinsert the brew group into its housing; press the 'PUSH' inscription until you hear a click, indicating correct attachment.
i Nota Bene: If it is difficult to reinsert the brew group, adjust it to the correct size by pressing the two levers as shown in the illustration before reinserting.
- Once the brew group is reinserted, check that the two red buttons have sprung outwards.
- Close the brew group door.
- Reinsert the water reservoir.
Descaling
Descale the appliance when the control lamp flashes on the control panel (Fig. 31).
Attentie! The descaling solution contains acids that can irritate the skin and eyes. It is essential to follow the manufacturer's safety instructions on the packaging regarding behavior in case of skin or eye contact.
i Nota Bene: Use only De'Longhi descaler. Do not use descalers based on sulfamic acid or vinegar. In such cases, the warranty will be void. The warranty is also void if descaling is not performed regularly.
- Switch on the machine and wait until it is ready for use.
- Empty the water reservoir (A12) and remove the water softener filter, if present.
- Pour the descaling solution into the water reservoir up to level A (corresponding to a 100ml dose) indicated on the back of the reservoir (Fig. 32A); then add water up to level B (Fig. 32B). Place an empty container with a minimum capacity of 1.5L under the milk frother.
- Wait until the coffee dispensing control lamps light up steadily.
Attentie! Gevaar op verbrandingen Hot water containing acids will flow out of the cappuccino system. Avoid contact with water splashes.
- Press and hold the button for at least 5 seconds to confirm the solution input and start descaling. The button's control lamp will remain lit to indicate the start of the descaling program, and the control lamp will flash to indicate that the steam knob should be turned to position 'I'.
- Turn the steam knob counter-clockwise to position 'I': the descaling solution will flow out of the cappuccino system and fill the container below. The descaling program automatically performs a series of rinses with pauses to remove limescale. It is normal for several minutes of inactivity to occur between rinses. After approximately 30 minutes, the water reservoir will be empty, and the control lamps will flash; turn the steam knob clockwise to the end stop, position 'O'. The appliance is now ready for a fresh water rinse.
- Empty the container used for the descaling solution and place the empty container under the cappuccino system.
- Remove the water reservoir, empty it, rinse it with tap water, fill it with clean water, and reinsert it; the control lamp will flash.
- Turn the steam knob counter-clockwise to position 'I' (Fig. 5). Hot water will come out of the spout.
- When the water reservoir is completely empty, the control lamp will flash.
- Turn the knob to position 'O': the control lamp will go out.
Refill the water reservoir, and the machine is ready for use.
Programming Water Hardness
After a certain period of operation, descaling is necessary, depending on the water hardness. The appliance is factory-set to hardness level 4. You can set the appliance according to the actual water hardness in your area to reduce the frequency of descaling.
Measuring Water Hardness
- Remove the supplied 'TOTAL HARDNESS TEST' test strip from its packaging.
- Immerse the strip in a glass of water for approximately 1 second.
- Remove the strip from the water and shake it lightly. After about one minute, 1, 2, 3, or 4 red squares will appear. Each square corresponds to a level, depending on the water hardness.
- Level 1
- Level 2

- Level 4
Setting Water Hardness
- Ensure the machine is switched off (but connected to the mains and the main switch is in the 'I' position).
- Press and hold the button for at least 6 seconds; the ECO indicator lights will come on simultaneously.
- Press the button (to the left of the knob) to set the actual hardness (the level observed by the test strip).
- Level 1
- Level 2
- Level 3
- Level 4
- Press the button (to the right of the knob) to confirm your choice.
The appliance is now reprogrammed with the new water hardness setting.

Waste Disposal
Warnings for correct waste disposal of the product according to European Directive 2002/96/EG and Legislative Decree no. 151 of 25 July 2005.
The product must not be disposed of with household waste at the end of its useful life. It can be taken to separate waste collection centers set up by the municipality or to retailers who provide this service. Separate waste disposal of an electrical household appliance helps to avoid potential negative consequences for the environment and health, which may arise from improper waste disposal. It also makes it possible to recover the materials from which the appliance is made, resulting in significant savings of energy and resources.

Meaning of Control Lamps

Important: When removing the drip tray, it is mandatory to always empty the coffee dump box, even if it contains only a small amount. If this is not done, it is possible that when brewing more cups of coffee, the coffee dump box will become fuller than intended, causing the appliance to become clogged. |
ECO Solid | The coffee dump box was not reinserted after cleaning. | Remove the drip tray and reinsert the coffee dump box. |
ECO Flashing | The grinding is too fine, causing coffee to flow too slowly or not at all. | While the grinder is operating, turn the grinding fineness knob one click clockwise (Fig. 10). Turn the knob one click at a time until the output is satisfactory. If the output is still too slow after brewing at least 2 cups of coffee, repeat the adjustment by turning the knob one more click (see 'Grinding fineness adjustment', page 13). Troubleshooting
The following are possible malfunctions. If a problem cannot be solved as described, contact Technical Service.
