Pioneer AVIC Gracenote Database Update Instructions
Date: 09/04/2006
The Gracenote database enables your Pioneer HDD Navigation unit to identify album, song, and artist names. Periodic updates are available for download or by ordering a Gracenote database update CD.
How to Install the Update
- Ensure your Pioneer HDD Navigation unit is turned on. Insert the update CD into the drive.
- After inserting the CD, the unit will display "Checking disc" and "CD-ROM inserted" for approximately 45 seconds before prompting you to start the update. If no prompt appears, verify the CD was burned correctly in a compatible format.
- Press "Yes" to begin the update process.
- An icon will appear on the screen to indicate that the update is in progress.
The update process may take up to 25 minutes. You can resume an interrupted update if your Pioneer HDD Navigation unit is turned off or if the vehicle is turned off during the process. The CD can be ejected during the update; reinserting it will continue the process. The CD/DVD drive is inaccessible during the update, but other functions remain available.
Updating Music Library Information
- Once the update is complete, you can update tracks and albums in your music library with the latest Gracenote database information.
- While listening to an album, press the "Edit Track" button.
- The current track information will be displayed. Press the "Update Title" button to update the artist, title, genre, and track information using the latest Gracenote data.
Common Update Errors
Old Version Detected
The Pioneer HDD Navigation unit prevents the installation of older Gracenote database versions. You may already have the latest version installed.
Checking Installed Version
To check the currently installed Gracenote database version:
- Press the "Menu" key on the unit.
- Press the "Settings" button.
- Press the "Hardware" button.
- Press the "Service Info Screen" button.
The version number of the installed Gracenote database will be displayed.
CD Read Errors
If the CD cannot be read, the update will be canceled. This may be due to improper recording or CD damage. Re-record the CD using the appropriate files and try again. Ensure the CD is recorded in Mode 1 with ISO9660 level1/level2, Joliet, or Romeo formats.
Canceling the Update
If you attempt to cancel the update, pressing "Yes" will stop the operation, discarding any updated data. Pressing "No" will continue the update.
