Summary
The NETGEAR ProSAFE NMS300 network administration software is the ideal solution for monitoring your network infrastructure. It allows you to control and optimize your network's operations. ProSAFE NMS300 helps you configure, manage, and diagnose your network, ensuring it delivers services in a timely, efficient, reliable, and economical manner. Easy to use, proactive, and secure, NMS300 simplifies network administration tasks for monitoring and controlling complex networks.
This software functions with all industry-standard network devices that use the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), such as Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches (regardless of brand), wireless access points, traditional routers, servers, and printers. It automatically discovers your network and creates a heterogeneous map, at no extra cost: NMS300 is free for up to 200 devices. Managed Wi-Fi access points under a controller are not supported. A license for support of 200 additional devices is now available.
Network statistics can be represented graphically in real-time or stored as historical files for trend analysis. NMS300 sends proactive alerts, including via email. It detects bottlenecks and other types of problems that may occur on the network before users are aware of them.
The user-friendly web interface allows you to monitor the entire network by user or by device group, wherever you are.
Optimized for NETGEAR managed network products, you can view specific information and benefit from the following exclusive features:
- Centralized firmware updates
- Backup, management, and restoration of configuration files
- Editing of local configuration files and mass deployment by product category
New functionalities include the sFlow Collection Server, topology alerts when traffic or packets exceed a threshold, and an advanced MIB browser with SNMP tuning.

Discovery and Registration
- Automatic Device Detection: Includes first-level components, sub-components, and interfaces/ports as applicable.
- Automated Discovery Link: Ethernet link discovery using LLDP.
- Scheduled Discovery: Ability to schedule discovery tasks for specific dates/times.
- Device Resynchronization: Resynchronizes the system with device inventory.
- Automated Discovery Link: Ethernet link discovery using LLDP.
- Resynchronization Scheduling: Schedules device resynchronization for specified times.
- Product Registration: NETGEAR managed products can be registered via NMS300. The registration tool allows registering one, multiple, or all managed devices. Registration occurs on the NETGEAR server. A NETGEAR product registration website account is required before using the registration tool. After creating an account, configure the profile via NMS300.
Surveillance
- Network Topology: Topology views and manually created links, including filtering. NMS300 uses different colors and blinking styles for discovered links. Link control data is defined via the user interface for transmission and reception, and based on packet loss for transmission and reception.
- Alert Management: Receives defined SNMP traps, including severity and description. Generates alarms based on predefined event definitions. User-defined actions triggered by events and alarms. Supports email alerts with SMTP configuration.
- Data Surveillance: Provides device details and port details.
- Real-time Performance and Key Metrics Collection: Monitors temperature, memory usage, CPU usage, SNMP trap counts, TCP connection failures, UDP errors, outgoing IP discards, disk temperature, incoming IP discards, TCP errors, used disk space, incoming IP address errors, disk space utilization, total disk space, incoming IP header errors, total IP discards, fan speed, no outgoing IP route discards, uptime, incoming ICMP errors, incoming ICMP echo requests, total outgoing SNMP traps, outgoing ICMP echo requests, UDP no port, established TCP connections, total SNMP traps.
- Active Surveillance with Trend: Monitors device, port, interface, historical data, thresholds, and graphs (up to 30 days).
- sFlow Collection Server: Allows monitoring of manageable switches in high-speed networks via sampled flows.
- Reports: Provides device inventory, port status, and firmware reports.
Configuration (Supported NETGEAR Hardware Only)
- Configuration File Backup: Supports backup of hardware configuration files for compatible devices. Supports 1:1 and 1:Many based on static or dynamic device groups. Can be immediate or scheduled.
- Mass Configuration: Text configuration files can be edited and used as "master" configuration files for mass deployment. This is useful for creating a template configuration file to deploy multiple devices at once. Variables like IP address or other identifiers can be excluded from mass configuration.
- Configuration File Restore: Restores hardware configuration files for compatible devices. Supports 1:1 and 1:Many based on static or dynamic device groups. Can be immediate or scheduled.
- Firmware Update: Automatic deployment of the selected firmware version, either automatically or scheduled.
- Firmware Pre-loading: Multiple firmware versions can be pre-loaded into the application.
- Configuration File Comparison: Compares files using color codes and text line alignment for selecting two devices or archived files.
- Hardware Configuration: Provides direct access/cut-through (HTTP/Telnet/SSH).
- Integrated File Server: Supports the TFTP protocol.
Configuration (All SNMP Devices)
- MIB Browser: Allows retrieval of information on SNMP devices. The application supports SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, SNMPv3, all standard supported MIBs, and private MIBs. The MIB browser allows selection from numerous MIB databases (e.g., standard RFC MIB or private NETGEAR MIB) and navigation through a MIB tree to select a specific MIB object. You can also search for a MIB object, load, and delete a MIB via the browser. The application displays the data collected by the MIB object, information about the selected MIB object, and SNMP identification information.
- SNMP Commands:
- Get: Retrieves data based on the selected MIB object.
- Get Next: Retrieves data based on the next MIB object (relative to the selected MIB object) in the MIB tree.
- Set: Modifies the value of the selected MIB object.
- Table View: Collects data from tables based on the selected MIB object (available only for MIB objects related to tables).
