Performance/Safety Features
Motor Protection System:
- Motor Protector: A by-pass valve opens automatically to provide cooling air to the motor if a clog prevents airflow, preventing overheating. A change in sound indicates the valve has opened. To correct, see Troubleshooting.
- Thermal Protector: Automatically trips to protect the motor and agitator from overheating. If a clog prevents airflow, it turns the motor off to cool down. To correct, turn off, unplug, remove clogs, and check/replace filters. Wait 30 minutes before restarting.
NOTE: The motor protector may open with attachments or new carpet due to reduced airflow.
Agitator Motor Overload Protector:
Built-in protection against motor damage. If the agitator jams, slows, or stops, this protector shuts off the agitator motor. The vacuum motor continues to run. To correct, turn off, unplug, remove obstruction, and press the reset button. Contact service if the problem persists.
Performance Indicator:
The light is OFF during normal airflow. It turns ON when airflow is blocked. Check the dust bag, motor safety filter, and other potential clog locations (see Clog Removal). To correct, see Troubleshooting. The light may also come on with attachments due to reduced airflow.
Dirt Sensor
The electronic dirt sensor detects particles passing through the cleaner. Indicators are on the front of the switch cover.
- Red Light: Indicates dirt is being picked up.
- Green Light: Indicates most dirt has been picked up.
Operation: The red light stays on as long as a high concentration of particles is detected.
WARNING: Electrical Shock And Personal Injury Hazard. Disconnect power before maintenance.
To Clean Dirt Sensor Optics:
The optics are inside the bag holder. Clean them periodically with a soft, dry cloth to ensure maximum performance. Recommended cleaning times include when lights stay on continuously, when dirt adheres to cells, or when changing the dust bag.
CAUTION: Never use cleaners or liquids on the sensor optics.
