CASIO TextLoader Software User Manual
This manual provides instructions for using the "TextLoader" software and the "My Library" function of CASIO electronic dictionaries.
Introduction
Before using this software, please read this manual carefully to ensure correct usage. After reading, please store this manual safely. This manual introduces the "TextLoader" software and the "My Library" function of electronic dictionaries.
Features
- Read Free eBooks Downloaded from the Web: This product can read text format (files with .txt extension) eBooks available for free from web sites. Download text files to your computer and then transfer them to your electronic dictionary. (See Page 3)
- Read Downloaded Text Files: Transfer text files from your computer to your electronic dictionary for reading. (See Page 12)
- Use microSD Memory Card or SD Card: Expand your electronic dictionary's storage capacity using commercially available microSD or SD cards. (See Pages 21, 24)
- To transfer text files, you need to run the "TextLoader" software. (See Page 3)
- E-A/E-B/E-D/E-SC series models can transfer up to 200 text files each to the electronic dictionary's internal memory and microSD memory card.
- Models other than E-A/E-B/E-D/E-SC series can transfer up to 100 text files each to the electronic dictionary's internal memory and SD memory card.
- The remaining memory capacity displayed on the electronic dictionary is an approximation. Files may not transfer even if their size is within the remaining capacity.
- After transferring data to the product and microSD/SD card, do not delete them from your computer; keep them as backups. Data may be lost if the product malfunctions or requires repair.

Software Operating Environment
OS (Simplified Chinese Version): Windows® 2000 Professional / XP Home Edition / XP Professional, Windows Vista®, Windows® 7
- Proper operation may not be guaranteed depending on the computer's configuration (CPU, hard disk capacity, memory capacity, etc.).
- Operation is not guaranteed on Windows 2000 Professional/XP Home Edition/XP Professional, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 environments upgraded from other OS.
- Windows Vista and Windows 7 support 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
- Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is not supported.
Installing the "TextLoader" Software on Your Computer
Important! Do not connect the computer and electronic dictionary before completing software installation (See Page 6).
- Download "TextLoader" from the Web Site: Download the "TextLoader" software from the following web site (http://www.casio.com.cn/dic/). Follow the instructions on the web site to download it to your computer.
- Install "TextLoader" using the Installation File:
- Extract the compressed file. (Double-click the installer file, e.g.,
TextLoader.exe
) - Follow the on-screen installation prompts.
- If prompted by User Account Control on Windows Vista or Windows 7, click "Yes (Y)" or "Allow (A)".
- If a screen asking "Do you want to install this device software?" appears, click "Install (I)".
- After installation, the "TextLoader" icon will appear on your desktop.
- Extract the compressed file. (Double-click the installer file, e.g.,
Reading "Free eBooks"
Ensure you have installed the "TextLoader" software on your computer before connecting the electronic dictionary and computer.
What is a "Free eBook"?
A "Free eBook" refers to works whose copyrights have expired or free eBooks for which copyright holders have granted permission. "Free eBook" web sites include:

- Aozora Bunko: http://www.aozora.gr.jp/

Transferring Files to Your Electronic Dictionary
Files can be read on the electronic dictionary if they meet the following conditions:
- Only text format (English/Japanese/Chinese: Simplified Chinese).
- File extension must be ".txt".
- For EW-V2500L/EW-V3600L/EW-V4000L/EW-V5100L models, filenames are limited to 12 characters (including the .txt extension). If a filename exceeds 12 characters, rename it to 12 characters or less using half-width English letters or numbers.
- Other models (excluding EW-V2500L/EW-V3600L/EW-V4000L/EW-V5100L) support up to the Windows maximum (255 characters, including the .txt extension).
- Filenames displayed on the electronic dictionary are truncated if they exceed the display limit.
- Maximum file size is "5MB".
Procedure for Transferring Files
- Download Files from Web Sites: Download the desired works from web sites to your computer. Text files may be compressed in formats like ZIP. You may need to "uncompress" them first.
- Confirm Text Files: Ensure the text files meet the conditions specified on Page 4. If not, adjust them accordingly.
- Launch "TextLoader" on Your Computer: Double-click the "TextLoader" icon to launch the software. The software window displays memory status for the electronic dictionary and storage card, along with options for file operations.
Connecting the Electronic Dictionary and Computer
Important! Always use the USB cable provided with the electronic dictionary.
Before connecting to the computer, ensure "TextLoader" is installed.
- Confirm that "TextLoader" is running.
- Turn off the electronic dictionary.
- Connect one end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer and the other end to the USB port on the electronic dictionary. (Diagrams show connections for E-SF/EV-SP/EW-V2800H/EW-V3800H and other models.)
Note: Always connect to a USB port on the computer's main unit. Connecting to other USB ports may result in improper operation.
Using Models Other Than E-D Series
- Start "PC Link":
- Turn on the electronic dictionary.
- Display the "My Library" screen.
- For models with "My Library" printed above a key, press that key.
- For models with "My Library" printed below a key or on the second line, press the [SHIFT] key first, then press the "My Library" key.
- Press the electronic dictionary's navigation key, select "PC Link", and press the [ENTER] key to confirm.
- If a "Caution" screen appears, select the item and press [ENTER], then press [ENTER] again.
- Follow the steps on Page 8.
Using E-D Series Models
- Start "PC Link":
- If transferring to a microSD memory card inserted in the electronic dictionary, insert the card into slot 1.
- Turn on the electronic dictionary.
- Press the electronic dictionary's navigation key twice.
- Press the electronic dictionary's navigation key, select "PC Link", and press the [ENTER] key.
- If a "Caution" screen appears, select the item and press [ENTER], then press [ENTER] again.
- Press the [ENTER] key.
Important Notes for Windows XP Users
When connecting the electronic dictionary and computer for the first time on Windows XP, you may see the following warning messages:
- Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) Version: The "Found New Hardware Wizard" may appear. Select "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" and click "Next (N)".
- Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Later Version: The "Found New Hardware Wizard" may appear. Select "No, not this time" and click "Next (N)". Then, select "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" and click "Next (N)".
- You may see a message stating that the software has not passed the Windows Logo testing and its compatibility with Windows XP cannot be verified. It may also warn that installing it could make your system unstable. CASIO recommends contacting the hardware vendor for Windows Logo-tested software. If you wish to proceed, click "Continue Anyway (C)".
Transferring Files to Your Electronic Dictionary
Transfer the "desired work files" that meet the conditions from Step 2 to your electronic dictionary.
- Drag and drop the "desired work files" onto the "TextLoader" window to begin the transfer to the electronic dictionary.
- To transfer to the electronic dictionary's internal memory, drag files to the indicated area.
- To transfer to the storage card, drag files to the indicated area (for E-D series models, this is the card in slot 1).
Completing the Transfer
- After the transfer to the electronic dictionary is complete, close the "TextLoader" software.
- Turn off the electronic dictionary and disconnect the USB cable.
For Models Other Than E-D Series
For E-D series models, follow the steps on Page 11.
Reading Files on the Electronic Dictionary
- Turn on the electronic dictionary.
- Display the "My Library" screen.
- For models with "My Library" printed above a key, press that key.
- For models with "My Library" printed below a key or on the second line, press the [SHIFT] key first, then press the "My Library" key.
- Use the navigation keys to select the save location (e.g., "Internal Memory List" or "Storage Card List").
- For E-ST100/EW-V series, press the navigation key to select "Internal Memory List" or "Storage Card List".
- For E-A/E-B/E-SC/E-SF/EV-SP series, press the navigation key to select "Internal Memory Text" or "Storage Card Text".
- Use the navigation keys to select the desired file and press the [ENTER] key to confirm.
- The text will be displayed.
Note: If the displayed text appears garbled, change the language settings. (See Page 20)
You can also use the following functions on the electronic dictionary for displayed text: Jump search, display format change, font size adjustment, and pronunciation functions.
You can also add bookmarks to the displayed text. (See Bookmark Function, Page 17)
For E-D Series Models
- Turn on the electronic dictionary.
- Press the "My Library" key twice.
- Use the navigation keys to select the storage location (Internal Memory, Storage Card 1, Storage Card 2) and press [ENTER].
- For files transferred to the electronic dictionary's internal memory, select "Internal Memory".
- For files transferred to a microSD memory card, select "Storage Card 1" or "Storage Card 2".
- Use the navigation keys to select "Text" and press [ENTER].
- Use the navigation keys to select the desired file and press [ENTER].
- The text will be displayed.
Note: If the displayed text appears garbled, change the language settings. (See Page 20)
You can also use the following functions on the electronic dictionary for displayed text: Jump search, display format change, font size adjustment, and pronunciation functions.
You can also add bookmarks to the displayed text. (See Bookmark Function, Page 17)
Reading Text Data
Ensure you have installed the "TextLoader" software on your computer before connecting the electronic dictionary and computer.
What is Text Data?
Text data refers to files with the ".txt" extension.
- Create and save text data on your computer.
- If you have already installed the "TextLoader" software, proceed from Step 3 (Page 5) of "Transferring Files to Your Electronic Dictionary". If not, install the software (Page 3) first, then proceed from Step 3 (Page 5).
Note: If the displayed text appears garbled, change the language settings. (See Page 20)
The conditions for displayable text are the same as those on Page 4.
You can also use the following functions on the electronic dictionary for displayed text: Jump search, display format change, font size adjustment, and pronunciation functions.
You can also add bookmarks to the displayed text. (See Bookmark Function, Page 17)
Deleting Transferred Text Files
Transferred text files can be deleted individually. The screen display may vary depending on the electronic dictionary model; the following describes the E-D series.
- Launch the software on your computer.
- Connect the electronic dictionary to the computer and press [ENTER] on the "PC Link" screen of the electronic dictionary.
- Once communication is ready, the "TextLoader" window on your computer will display the names of transferred files.
- For models other than E-D series, after connecting the electronic dictionary and computer, press [ENTER] on the "PC Link" item (highlighted) on the electronic dictionary screen.
- Select the name of the file you want to delete from the "TextLoader" window.
- Click the "Delete File" icon.
- A confirmation message will appear. Click "Yes" to start deletion.
- The filename will disappear after deletion.
- Close the software, then turn off the electronic dictionary and disconnect the USB cable.
Uninstalling the Software
On Windows, click the "Start" button, select "Control Panel" → "Add or Remove Programs" (or "Programs" → "Uninstall a program").
For Windows Vista and Windows 7, restart your computer after uninstalling.
Further Usage
Copy articles from web sites and save them as text files readable by your electronic dictionary.
- Copy Articles from Web Sites: Please read the usage guidelines of each web site carefully before using its content. Users are solely responsible for any issues arising from the use of web site articles.
- Paste Articles into Windows Notepad: If the pasted text appears garbled, try changing the font in Notepad.
- Select "Save As" to Save the Article: Save the file as a text document (e.g., `FAQ.txt`) with Unicode encoding. You can save it in any folder. If Notepad does not offer a Unicode option, use WordPad.
Transferring Saved Files
For steps on transferring saved files to your electronic dictionary, refer to Step 3 on Page 5. Launch the installed "TextLoader" software. Drag and drop the saved file from the previous step into the "TextLoader" window.
If the file being dragged is in [Unicode] format, a selection window will appear. Choose Chinese (GB), Japanese (SJIS), or European (Latin) and click [OK].
After the file transfer is complete, proceed to Page 10 for instructions on reading the text file.
Bookmark Function
The bookmark function allows you to quickly find specific parts of text files (.txt) saved in text format.
- When a bookmark is added to a text file transferred to a commercial microSD memory card, the bookmark may disappear on E-D series models when the card is removed. For E-D series, bookmarks will not disappear when the card is removed, but may not display if the card slot is changed.
Adding Bookmarks (For Models Other Than E-B/E-D/E-SC Series)
- On the text display screen, open the settings window.
- For E-A/E-SF/EV-SP/EW-V2800H/EW-V3800H models, press the [SHIFT] key, then the [DELETE] key.
- For other models, press the [SETTINGS] key.
- Select "Add Bookmark" and press [ENTER] to confirm.
- Use the navigation keys to move to the desired bookmark name (Bookmark 1 to Bookmark 4) and press [ENTER]. The bookmark is now added.
Note: If bookmarks are added to text files saved on a microSD or SD card, they may be removed when the card is ejected from the electronic dictionary.
Displaying Bookmarks
On the text display screen with added bookmarks, tap the registered bookmark icon on the lower LCD. You can also select "Display Bookmarks" using the navigation keys after pressing [SHIFT] (E-SC series models can only operate via keys).
From the "Settings" screen, you can also select "Jump to First Page", "Jump to Last Page", and "Jump to Previous Page".
Deleting Bookmarks
On the text display screen, press the [ENTER] key, use the navigation keys to select the bookmark to delete, and press [ENTER].
Selecting "Delete Displayed Text Bookmarks" and pressing [ENTER], then selecting "Yes" will delete all bookmarks for the displayed text.
Displaying Bookmarks (For E-B/E-D/E-SC Series)
When text is displayed, the lower LCD screen shows icons for bookmarks (purple, cyan, yellow, blue) and notes (refer to your electronic dictionary's user manual). The E-SC series does not have a lower LCD function.
Adding Bookmarks
When you want to add a bookmark to a specific part of the text display, tap the unregistered bookmark icon on the lower LCD screen to register it.
Alternatively, press [SHIFT], release it, press the navigation key, select "Add Bookmark", and press [ENTER] to register. (E-SC series can only be operated via the navigation keys.)
Once a bookmark is added, the first 20 half-width characters of the page will be marked with the corresponding color.
Changing Language Settings
If the displayed text appears garbled, follow these steps to change the language settings:
- On the text display screen, open the settings window.
- For E-A/E-B/E-D/E-SC/E-SF/EV-SP/EW-V2800H or EW-V3800H models, press the [SHIFT] key, then the [SETTINGS] key.
- For models other than E-A/E-B/E-D/E-SC/E-SF/EV-SP/EW-V2800H or EW-V3800H, press the [SETTINGS] key.
- Use the navigation keys to select "Text Browse Language Settings" and press [ENTER] to confirm.
- Use the navigation keys to move to the desired language display and press [ENTER] to confirm.
Using microSD Memory Cards (E-A/E-B/E-D/E-SC/E-SF/EV-SP Series)
- For E-SF/EV-SP Series: You can expand storage capacity using commercially available microSD memory cards. The maximum supported microSD memory card capacity is 1GB. (microSDHC memory cards are not supported.)
- For E-A/E-B/E-D/E-SC Series: You can expand storage capacity using commercially available microSDHC memory cards. For these series, "microSD memory card" refers to both "microSD memory card" and "microSDHC memory card".
Important!
- Always use a microSD memory card. Using other memory cards may result in improper operation.
- Do not perform the following operations while files saved on a microSD memory card are displayed:
- Inserting or removing the microSD memory card.
- Connecting or disconnecting the USB cable.
- Forcefully shutting down the electronic dictionary or computer.
- Forcefully shutting down TextLoader and Windows.
- microSD memory cards must be inserted in the correct orientation. Incorrect insertion may damage the card.
- Refer to the user manual provided with your microSD memory card for usage instructions.
- Some microSD memory cards require formatting. When you insert a microSD memory card and display the "My Library" screen, a message will appear. Follow the instructions to format it. Formatting a microSD memory card will erase all data on it, so confirm that formatting is necessary before proceeding.
- Due to differences in microSD memory card specifications, the data capacity transferred from a computer to a microSD memory card may differ from the capacity transferred to the electronic dictionary's internal memory. When transferring to a microSD memory card, you may need more space than what is displayed as "used capacity".
- If the electronic dictionary is low on power when using a microSD memory card, some cards may not display the low power warning and will stop displaying the screen. In such cases, replace the battery.
- When using commercial microSD memory cards in the electronic dictionary, store them carefully to prevent accidental ingestion by children.
Inserting a microSD Memory Card into the Electronic Dictionary (EV-SP Series)
For E-A/E-B/E-D/E-SC/E-SF series electronic dictionaries, refer to the dictionary's main unit manual.
- Turn off the electronic dictionary.
- Open the battery cover.
- Insert the microSD memory card firmly into the microSD memory card slot, following the indicated direction.
- Close the battery cover.
Important!
- Do not insert cards other than microSD memory cards into the microSD memory card slot, as this may cause malfunction.
- If foreign objects or liquids enter the microSD memory card slot, immediately turn off the electronic dictionary, remove the battery, and contact the nearest CASIO authorized service center.
- Always turn off the electronic dictionary's power before inserting a microSD memory card.
Removing a microSD Memory Card from the Electronic Dictionary (EV-SP Series)
For E-A/E-B/E-D/E-SC/E-SF series electronic dictionaries, refer to the dictionary's main unit manual.
- Turn off the electronic dictionary.
- Open the battery cover.
- Press the microSD memory card; it will pop out slightly.
- Hold both sides of the microSD memory card and pull it out.
- Close the battery cover.
Important!
- Do not remove the microSD memory card while files are being displayed from it. Doing so may prevent data from being saved or damage the microSD memory card.
- Forcibly removing the microSD memory card may damage the microSD memory card slot and the card itself.
- Always turn off the electronic dictionary's power before removing a microSD memory card.
Using SD Cards (E-ST100/EW-V Series)
You can expand storage capacity using commercially available SD cards.
Important!
- Always use SD cards. Using other memory cards may result in improper operation.
- The maximum supported SD card capacity is 1GB.
- Do not perform the following operations while files saved on an SD card are displayed:
- Inserting or removing the SD card.
- Connecting or disconnecting the USB cable.
- Forcefully shutting down the electronic dictionary or computer.
- Forcefully shutting down TextLoader and Windows.
- SD cards must be inserted in the correct orientation. Incorrect insertion may damage the SD card.
- Refer to the user manual provided with your SD card for usage instructions.
- Set the write-protect switch to "Unlock" before use. If it is set to "Lock", errors may occur when saving files during operation.
- Some SD cards require formatting. When you insert an SD card and display the "My Library" screen, a message will appear. Follow the instructions to format it. Formatting an SD card will erase all data on it, so confirm that formatting is necessary before proceeding.
- Due to differences in SD card specifications, the data capacity transferred from a computer to an SD card may differ from the capacity transferred to the electronic dictionary's internal memory. When transferring to an SD card, you may need more space than what is displayed as "used capacity".
- If the electronic dictionary is low on power when using an SD card, some cards may not display the low power warning and will stop displaying the screen. In such cases, replace the battery.
Inserting an SD Card into the Electronic Dictionary

- Turn off the electronic dictionary.
- Open the SD card slot cover.
- Insert the SD card firmly into the SD card slot as shown in the illustration.
- Close the SD card slot cover.
Important!
- Do not insert cards other than SD cards into the SD card slot, as this may cause malfunction.
- If foreign objects or water enter the SD card slot, immediately turn off the electronic dictionary, remove the battery, and contact the nearest CASIO authorized service center.
- Always turn off the electronic dictionary's power before inserting an SD card.
Removing an SD Card from the Electronic Dictionary

- Turn off the electronic dictionary.
- Open the SD card slot cover.
- Press the SD card; it will pop out slightly.
- Pull out the SD card.
- Close the SD card slot cover.
Important!
- Do not remove the SD card while files are being displayed from it. Doing so may prevent data from being saved or damage the SD card.
- Forcibly removing the SD card may damage the SD card slot and the card itself.
- Always turn off the electronic dictionary's power before removing an SD card.

Troubleshooting
If your electronic dictionary operates abnormally while using the "My Library" function, first check if alkaline batteries are being used. Then, refer to the table below for solutions.
