This guide provides instructions for operating the ZTE Z233 mobile phone.

Key Functions and Components
The ZTE Z233 features several key components and functions:
- Earpiece: For listening during calls.
- Internal Display: The main screen of the phone.
- External Display: Shows basic information when the phone is closed.
- 4-Way Navigation Key: Used for navigating menus and options (Up, Down, Left, Right).
- Center Key: Confirms selections and actions.
- Left Soft Key: Performs the function indicated on the bottom-left of the screen.
- Right Soft Key: Performs the function indicated on the bottom-right of the screen.
- Send Key: Initiates calls or answers incoming calls.
- Power/End Key: Turns the phone on/off, ends calls, or returns to the home screen.
- Clear Key: Deletes characters or numbers.
- Camera Key: Launches the camera or takes a picture/video.
- Volume Up/Down Key: Adjusts ringer and call volume.
- Vibration Mode Key: Toggles vibration settings.
- 3.5 mm Auxiliary Headset Jack: For connecting headphones.
- Main Microphone: For voice input during calls.
- Speaker: For audible alerts and speakerphone.
- Charging/micro-USB Port: For connecting the charger.
- Battery Cover: Houses the battery.
Key Function Descriptions:
- Power/Lock Key: Press and hold to turn Airplane mode on/off, restart, or power off. Press to end or cancel a call. Press to return to the home screen.
- Left Soft Key / Right Soft Key: Select options displayed at the bottom of the screen, which vary by application.
- Send Key: Place or answer calls. Launch the Recent Calls app from the home screen.
- Clear Key: Delete text or numbers before the cursor.
- 4-Way Navigation Key: Navigate menus, options, and move the cursor.
Getting to Know the Home Screen
The home screen is the central point for accessing applications, functions, and menus. Key elements include:
- Status & Notifications: Displays icons for signal strength, battery, messages, etc.
- Wallpaper: The background image of the home screen.
- Contacts: Access your saved phone numbers.
- Messages: For sending and receiving text messages.
- Apps Menu: Access all installed applications.
Taking a Picture
- From the home screen, select [camera] Camera.
- Aim the camera at the subject and make any necessary adjustments.
- Press the Center Key or the Camera Key to take a picture.

Recording a Video
- From the home screen, select [camera] Camera. (Alternatively, press the Camera Key from the home or apps screen to launch the Camera app.)
- Press Left on the 4-Way Navigation Key to switch to the camcorder. The shutter button will turn red.
- Aim the camera at the subject and make any necessary adjustments. (Press the Volume Key to zoom in or out before and during recording.)
- Press the Center Key or the Camera Key to start recording. (Press the Left Soft Key to pause and resume recording.)
- Press the Center Key or the Camera Key again to stop recording.
Opening the Gallery
From the Home screen, select [gallery] Gallery to view albums of your pictures and videos.
Memory
- Internal Memory: 4GB
- Supports microSD memory card up to 32GB.
Voicemail
Setting Up Voicemail
- From the home screen, select [settings] Settings > Device > Call settings > Carrier Setting > Voicemail.
- Select from the following voicemail settings:
- Service: Select the voicemail service provider. Your carrier is the default.
- Setup: View or edit the voicemail number.
- Sound: Set the notification sound for new voicemails.
- Vibrate: Enable vibration for notifications.
Getting Started: The Battery
Installing the battery
- Place your finger in the slot at the bottom of the back cover to lift and remove the cover.
- Insert the battery by aligning the metal contacts on the battery with the gold contacts in the battery compartment. Gently push down on the battery until it clicks into place.
- Press the cover gently back into place until you hear a click.
Removing the battery
- Remove the back cover.
- Lift the battery up and out.
Charging the Battery
- Connect the adapter to the charging port. Ensure the adapter is inserted with the correct orientation. Do not force the connector into the charging port.
- Connect the charger to a standard AC wall outlet. If the phone is on, a [charging indicator] will appear in the Status Bar.
- Disconnect the charger when the battery is fully charged.
Turning The Phone On / Off
Turn Phone On
Press and hold the Power/End Key to turn on your phone.
Turn Phone Off
Press and hold the Power/End Key to open the options menu. Select Power off [ok] > OK.
Phone Features
Opening the Browser
From the home screen, select [browser] Browser to launch the web browser. The Browser also opens when you open a web link, for example, in an email or text message.
- Open the Browser app.
- Select [menu] > Type URL to highlight the address box.
- Enter the address (URL) of a web page, or enter terms to search for.
- Press the Center Key to open the web page or search results.
Exiting the Browser
- Press the Left Soft Key for the browser menu.
- Press the Down Key on the 4-Way Navigation until Exit is highlighted.
- Press the Center Key to exit the browser.
Note: This phone does not have WiFi capabilities. Using the browser requires data usage. Fees may apply if you do not have a data plan.
Bluetooth
- From the home screen, select [settings] Settings > General settings > Bluetooth.
- If Bluetooth is off, press the Center Key to turn it on. Your phone will scan for and display the IDs of all available Bluetooth devices in range. Select [refresh] Refresh if you want to scan again.
- Select the device you want to pair with.
- If necessary, confirm that the Bluetooth passkeys are the same between the two devices and press the Center Key. Alternatively, enter a Bluetooth passkey and press the Center Key.
Pairing is successful when the other device accepts the connection or the same passkey is entered.
Note: The Bluetooth passkey may be fixed for certain devices, such as headsets and hands-free car kits. Try entering 0000 or 1234, or refer to the device's documentation.
Messaging
From the home screen, select [messages] Messages. The Messaging screen opens, allowing you to create a new message or open an existing thread.
- Select [new message] > New message to write a new text or multimedia message.
- Select an existing message thread to open the conversation.
Sending a Message
- On the Messaging screen, select [new message] > New message.
- Add recipients:
- Select the 'To' field and manually enter the recipient's number or contact name. Select a suggestion if available.
- Select the 'To' field and press the Center Key to select recipients from contacts, call history, or contact groups.
- Select the text box at the bottom and enter your message content.
- To send a multimedia message, select [attach] > Insert attach to add a photo or video.
- Press the Center Key or select SEND, then press the Center Key to send the message.
Making and Answering Calls
Placing a Call by Dialing
- Press the Power/End Key, then enter the phone number using the keypad. Press the Clear Key to delete incorrect digits.
- As you enter digits, your phone searches for matching contacts. If the desired contact appears, select it and press the Send Key to place the call immediately.
- Press the Send Key to dial the entered number.
Ending a Call
During a call, press the Power/End Key.
Answering Calls
- When you receive a phone call, drag [answer call] to answer the call. (To silence the ringer before answering, press the Volume Up/Down Keys.)
- When you receive a phone call, drag [reject call] to reject the call.
- You can also drag [reject call] to reject the call and send a preset text message to the caller. (To edit text responses, press the Menu Key > Settings > Quick responses.)
Ending Calls (on-screen)
During a call, tap [end call] on the screen.
