Fronius Primo Quick Start Guide
This guide provides essential information for the quick installation and setup of your Fronius Primo inverter. Please read all provided documentation carefully before proceeding.
Important Safety Information
WARNING! Improper operation and incorrect installation can lead to serious injury or property damage. Installation and commissioning must only be performed by trained personnel in accordance with technical regulations.
WARNING! Electric shock can be fatal. Danger from grid voltage and DC voltage from solar modules exposed to light.
- Ensure AC and DC sides are de-energized before any connection work.
- Only authorized electrical engineers may connect to the public grid.
- The DC main switch is for de-energizing the power stage only. The connection area remains live when the DC main switch is off.
- Disconnect power stage and connection area before maintenance.
- Separate power stage only when de-energized.
- Maintenance on the power stage must be performed by Fronius-trained technicians.
WARNING! Danger from residual voltage in capacitors. Wait for capacitors to discharge (5 minutes).
WARNING! Inadequate ground conductor connection can cause serious injury or damage. Use only provided housing screws for grounding.
CAUTION! Risk of damage from dirt or water on terminals. Protect terminals during drilling.
CAUTION! Risk of damage from incorrectly tightened terminals. Ensure terminals are tightened to the specified torque to prevent overheating and fire.
CAUTION! Risk of damage from overload. Max 36 A per DC terminal.
CAUTION! Risk of damage to inverters and other components due to poor installation. Ensure proper cable connections, torque, and installation practices to prevent overheating, arcs, and fire.
NOTE! Ensure correct polarity when connecting DC cables.
NOTE! IP65 protection is valid only when the inverter is securely mounted and the data communication cover is attached.
NOTE! When connecting aluminum cables, follow national/international guidelines and manufacturer instructions. Check cable tightness annually.
NOTE! For grounding solar module frames, follow manufacturer specifications and national guidelines.
NOTE! Observe ESD guidelines when using option cards.
NOTE! If installed in Australia or New Zealand (AS4777.2:2020), do not use in a three-phase combination due to lack of communication link.
Always adhere to manufacturer's connection, installation, and operating instructions. Perform all work carefully according to regulations to minimize risk. Refer to the operating/installation manual for tightening torques.
Installation and Mounting
The Fronius Primo inverter can be mounted on a wall using the provided mounting bracket. Ensure a minimum clearance of 150 mm above and 100 mm on the sides and below the inverter for proper ventilation and access.
Mounting Conditions:
- Operating temperature: -40°C to +55°C
- Operating humidity: 0-100%
- Pollution degree: 2
- DC/AC overvoltage category: 2/3
- Ensure the inverter is protected from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- The inverter should be installed in a dry, well-ventilated area.
- Installation orientation: Vertical mounting is recommended.
Opening the Inverter:
- Remove the bottom cover using two TX25 screws.
- Remove the front cover by releasing the clips.
- Remove the mounting bracket cover.
- Secure the inverter to the mounting bracket using the provided screws. Ensure the inverter is firmly attached before operation.
Mounting on Wall:
- Attach the mounting bracket to the wall using appropriate screws and anchors (minimum 3 screws). Ensure the bracket is level.
- Hang the inverter onto the mounting bracket.
- Secure the inverter to the bracket with fastening screws (minimum 3).
- Ensure the inverter is firmly attached to the mounting bracket before commissioning.
Electrical Connections
AC Connection:
- Ensure the AC circuit breaker is OFF.
- Connect the AC cables (L, N, PE) to the designated terminals. Refer to the manual for specific terminal assignments and torque specifications.
- Use cables with a minimum cross-section of 2.5 mm² and a maximum of 16 mm².
- Ensure proper cable strain relief.
DC Connection:
- Connect the PV module cables to the DC terminals (MPPT1, MPPT2).
- Ensure correct polarity (+ to +, - to -).
- Maximum 36 A per DC terminal.
- Use cables with a minimum cross-section of 2.5 mm² and a maximum of 16 mm².
- Refer to the manual for specific terminal assignments and torque specifications.
- Ensure proper cable strain relief.
Grounding:
- Connect the PE/GND terminal to the grounding system.
- Ensure all grounding connections are secure and tightened to the specified torque.
Commissioning
Follow the on-screen prompts on the inverter's display to complete the commissioning process.
- The inverter will display setup options. Navigate using the +/- and navigation buttons.
- Select the correct country setup.
- The inverter will perform a grid test.
- Once the grid test is successful, the inverter will begin operating.
Example Country Setups:
The available country setups may change with software updates. Refer to the inverter display for the most current options.
