O. Pinch Point
⚠️ WARNING: Be aware of moving parts that can create pinch points or finger traps during adjustments, folding, unfolding, or moving the chair.
VI. Safety Warnings: Falls & Tip-Overs
A. Center of Balance
⚠️ WARNING: The chair's center of balance determines its stability. Adjustments like rear wheel position, seat height/angle, backrest angle, body position, or added weight can affect this. Moving rear wheels forward increases the risk of tipping backward. Consult your doctor or dealer for optimal axle/caster positioning. Use anti-tip tubes.
B. Dressing or Changing Clothes
⚠️ WARNING: Weight shifts during dressing can cause falls or tip-overs. Rotate front casters forward and lock anti-tip tubes (or back against a wall and lock rear wheels) for stability.
C. Obstacles
⚠️ WARNING: Riding over curbs or obstacles can cause tipping. ALWAYS ask for assistance if unsure. Scan the area ahead, ensure paths are clear, remove thresholds, or install ramps. Lean forward when going up obstacles and backward when going down. Keep hands on handrims and do not push/pull on objects for propulsion.
D. Front Caster Lift
⚠️ WARNING: Front casters can lift off the ground. Pitch control should NEVER be attempted without consulting a healthcare advisor and ensuring anti-tips are installed.
E. Reaching or Leaning
⚠️ WARNING: Reaching or leaning affects the center of balance and can cause falls or tip-overs. Never reach or lean if it requires shifting weight sideways, rising off the seat, or moving forward in the seat. Always keep buttocks in contact with the backrest. Never reach with both hands. Do not lean backward unless anti-tip tubes are locked. Move the chair closer to the object. Rotate casters forward. Grasp a rear wheel or armrest for stability.
F. Moving Backward
⚠️ WARNING: Move backward with extra care. The chair is most stable moving forward. Loss of control or tip-over can occur if a rear wheel hits an object. Propel slowly, ensure anti-tip tubes are locked, and stop often to check the path.
G. Escalators
⚠️ WARNING: NEVER use this chair on an escalator, even with an attendant. This is extremely dangerous and likely to cause a fall or tip-over, resulting in severe injury.
H. Ramps, Slopes & Sidehills
⚠️ WARNING: Riding on slopes changes the center of balance, making the chair less stable. Avoid slopes steeper than 6°. Always go straight up or down. Do not turn on slopes. Stay centered on ramps. Do not stop on steep slopes. Never use rear wheel locks to slow down. Be aware of wet surfaces, grade changes, or drop-offs. Lean uphill when on a slope. Keep pressure on handrims for speed control downhill. Ask for help if in doubt. Ramps at home/work must meet legal requirements.
For Attendants (Ramps): Stay behind the chair, grasp push handles firmly. Ensure the chair faces forward when going up or down.
I. Transfer
⚠️ WARNING: Transfers require balance and agility. There's a point during transfer when the seat is not under you. Work with a healthcare advisor and have assistance until proficient. Lock rear wheels before transferring. Be aware the chair can still slide or tip. Ensure tires are properly inflated. Move the chair as close as possible to the transfer surface. Use a transfer board if possible. Rotate front casters forward. Remove or swing footrests out of the way. Ensure armrests are removed or out of the way. Transfer as far back onto the seat as possible.
J. Curbs & Single Steps
⚠️ WARNING: Curbs and steps can cause tipping and serious harm. ALWAYS ask for assistance if unsure. Do not attempt high curbs/steps without help. Go straight up and down. Impact can damage the chair or loosen fasteners.
K. Climbing a Curb or Single Step
For Attendant: Stay behind the chair. Continue backward until rear wheels contact the curb/step. Lift and roll rear wheels over. Pull chair backward until casters clear the edge, then return to rolling position.
L. Descending a Curb or Single Step
For Attendant: Stay at the rear. Tip chair slightly and pull backward. At balance point, step forward until rear wheels reach edge, then slowly roll down. Push chair forward to the lower level. Tilt chair back to balance point when rear wheels are on the lower level.
M. Stairs
⚠️ WARNING: NEVER use this chair on stairs without at least two attendants. Doing so is likely to cause a fall or tip-over.
N. Climbing Stairs
For Attendants: Use at least two attendants. Move the chair and rider BACKWARD up the stairs. The person at the rear controls tilt to balance point. The second attendant grasps the front frame and lifts over one stair at a time. Repeat for each stair.
O. Descending Stairs
For Attendants: Use at least two attendants. Move the chair and rider FORWARD down the stairs. The person at the rear controls tilt to balance point. The second attendant grasps the chair frame and lowers it one step at a time. Repeat for each stair.
VII. Warnings: Components & Options
A. Anti-Tip Tubes
⚠️ WARNING: Anti-tip tubes help prevent backward tipping. When locked, they should be 1-1/2" to 2" (38-51mm) off the ground. Higher settings may not prevent tipping; lower settings may snag on obstacles. Rotate tubes up and out of the way when climbing curbs or obstacles.
B. Armrests
⚠️ WARNING: Armrests detach and do not support the chair's weight. NEVER lift the chair by its armrests. Lift only by non-detachable frame parts.

The owner is responsible for ensuring the chair is set up and adjusted by a trained professional under healthcare advice. Use only recommended parts/accessories. Annual inspection, safety check, and service by an authorized dealer are recommended. Torque settings are critical for proper fastener tightening.
B. Critical Maintenance Tips
Torque Settings: Specific torque values are provided for fasteners (e.g., M5=44 in-lbs, M6=62 in-lbs, M8=88 in-lbs). For others, use 60 in-lbs (6.8 Nm). Joints may relax over time, requiring re-tightening.
Dealer Service and Adjustment Reference Materials: Visit www.sunrisemedical.com for parts manuals, instruction sheets, and videos.
C. Cleaning
- Paint Finish: Clean monthly with mild soap/detergent. Protect with auto wax.
- Axles and Moving Parts: Clean weekly with a damp cloth. Do not use 3-in-1 oil or WD-40®; use Teflon-based lubricant.
D. Center of Gravity
The rear axle position is crucial for center of gravity, camber, and wheelbase. Moving rear wheels forward increases tip-over risk backward. Adjustments should be incremental with a spotter. Anti-tip tubes are recommended. Moving the center of gravity forward lightens turning force; moving it back increases stability.
1. Changing the Position of the Axle Stem: Remove wheels. Undo screws (1). Fit axle stem in desired position. Re-tighten screws. Adjust seat saddle accordingly. Ensure left/right sides match.
2. COG Setting on the Standard Axle Bracket: Shift crescent-shaped spacers (3) on the axle bracket. Remove wheels. Release Allen screws (1), remove lid (2), arrange spacers, replace lid.
3. Re-tighten Allen screws (1): Use a two-stage process: first to 44 in-lbs (5 Nm), then to 71 in-lbs (8 Nm). Use Loctite™ 243 thread locker.
E. Wheel Locks
Wheel locks are factory-installed. Braking power depends on correct fitting, adjustment, and tire pressure. Use a torque setting of 62 in-lbs (7 Nm). Ensure locks fully engage, embedding into the tire at least 1/8" when locked.
1. Ergo Scissor Wheel Locks: Loosen screws (A) counterclockwise, slide clamp until embedded in tire, adjust angle, tighten screws to 62 in-lbs.
2. High-mount Push-to-Lock or Pull-to-Lock Wheel Locks: Similar procedure to Ergo Scissor locks.
3. Wheel Lock Lever Extension: A longer lever aids operation. Mount close to wheel may cause lever to break.
4. Compact Wheel Lock: Located under seat sling; pull towards rear to operate.
5. Drum Brakes: Provide safe braking for attendant. Squeeze lever (1) to assist. Drum brakes are not affected by tire pressure. ⚠️ WARNING: Risk of injury: Do not get fingers caught. Adjustments only by authorized dealers. Operate simultaneously. Use only as a dynamic brake. Always engage wheel locks for stops or transfers.
F. Rear Wheel Axle Nut Adjustment
Maintain tight axle sleeves for performance. Use 3/4" wrench for outside nuts (E) and 1/2" wrench for ball bearings (D). Tighten outside nut (F) clockwise. Allow zero to ten-thousandths of an inch (.010" / .25mm) of play.
G. Caster Adjustment
Setting the wheelchair on a flat surface aids accuracy.
1. Adjusting Caster Angle: Check for squareness. Casters should be vertical. If more than 1 degree off, re-square. Rotate forks so casters point rearward, place square against fork rear, check verticality.
2. Re-squaring Your Casters: Loosen bolt (A) in right caster tube (do not remove). Ensure splines (B) clear. Place chair on floor with rear wheels and left caster contacting floor. Add weight to rear for stability. Pivot fork until vertical. Engage spline teeth. Tighten screw (A) to 90 in-lbs (10 Nm). Record spline position and adjust left fork similarly.
3. 3-D Perpendicular Alignment: Allen bolt (C) allows fine-tuning of caster angle. Loosen bolt to relieve tension, adjust angle, retighten bolt.
4. Correcting a Pull to the Right or Left: Loosen screws (A) and (C). Rotate upper spline (D) to turn caster fork forward. Clockwise swings fork outward, counterclockwise inward. Re-tighten screws. Recheck squareness. Re-torque bolt (A) to 90 in-lbs (10 Nm).
H. Armrest Receiver
