Getting Started
Follow these steps to set up your VoiceLive Play:
- Connect Microphone: Connect your microphone (XLR) to the MIC IN port.
- Connect Power: Connect the power adapter to the unit and a power outlet.
- Connect Headphones: Plug headphones into the HEADPHONE jack for monitoring.
- Connect Instrument & Set Gain: Connect your instrument to GUITAR/AUX IN. Adjust the MIC IN gain using the indicator lights (Green: optimal, Yellow: high, Red: clipping) to ensure a strong, clean signal.
- Select Presets: Use the GENRE and PRACTICE buttons to browse and select presets.
- Sort Presets: Press GENRE to sort by style, effect, or favorite.
- Unit Overview: Familiarize yourself with the front panel controls: MIC IN, AUX IN, PEDAL, RIGHT-OUT-LEFT, POWER, GENRE, SETUP, EFFECTS, FAVORITE, PRACTICE, MIX, BACK, STORE, HIT.
- Save Presets: Edit a preset using the EFFECTS button and parameter selection buttons. Press STORE twice to save your changes.
- Connect Outputs: Connect the LEFT and RIGHT outputs to your amplifier, mixer, or audio interface.
- Harmony & Looping: The VoiceLive Play detects key information from the built-in mic or Aux input to select appropriate harmonies.
- Computer Connection: Connect to a computer via USB for firmware updates and support.
- Optional Accessories: Consider the MP-75 microphone or SWITCH-3 footswitch for enhanced control.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Selecting a Mic: Go to Setup, navigate to the Input screen, and select your mic type (e.g., MP-75, Condenser) using the control knob.
- Mono/Stereo Output: In Setup, go to the Output screen and use the control knob to switch between mono and stereo.
- Canceling Vocals in Mixed Songs: In Setup, go to the Output screen, find 'Vocal Cancel', and turn it on using the control knob. This is useful for karaoke or practice.
- Creating Loops: Find a preset, then hold the Up and Down footswitches for 1 second to enter Loop mode. Use the Record/Play footswitch to record, loop, overdub, undo/redo. The middle footswitch stops playback/clears loops. The Exit footswitch allows browsing presets while looping.
- Vocal Echo on Song Beats: Hold the Up and Hit footswitches for 1 second to enter Tap Tempo mode. Tap the Hit footswitch on song beats to sync effects. Use Up/Down footswitches to fine-tune BPM.
- Setting Harmony + HardTune Key: In Setup, navigate to the Up/Dn Function control and change it to "Set Key". Hold Up and Down footswitches to enter Key Set mode and select your key and scale.
- Accessing More Effect Parameters: Some effects have additional parameters accessible by holding a button while in the effect's editing screen.
- RoomSense: Built-in stereo microphones that can mix ambient room sound (Ambient), automatically set key (Auto Key), or act as a vocal input (Vocal) for practice without a handheld mic. Note: RoomSense is not available when Aux input is used.
