Repair Steps
Step 1: Battery Removal
Use a coin to rotate the battery locking screw 90 degrees clockwise. Image Description: The underside of an iBook G3 is shown, with a coin being used to turn a screw in the battery compartment.
Lift the battery out of the computer.
Step 2: Rear Display Bezel Screws
Use a 1.5mm hex screwdriver to remove the two hex screws on either side of the display (four screws total). Image Description: The rear of the iBook G3 12" display assembly is shown. Two screws on the left side, indicated by red circles, are visible. Another view shows two screws on the right side, also indicated by red circles.
✔️ If you don't have a 1.5mm hex driver, you can probably get these screws out with a T6 Torx screwdriver. However, if you use a T6 Torx driver, you'll be more likely to strip the screws.
Step 3: Prying the Bezel
Insert the flat end of a spudger perpendicular to the face of the display into the gap between the front and rear bezels near the upper left corner of the display. Image Description: A hand is shown inserting the flat end of a spudger into the gap between the front and rear display bezels near the upper left corner of an open iBook G3.
Rotate the spudger away from the display to pry the rear bezel off the front bezel. Image Description: A hand is shown rotating a spudger away from the display to pry the rear bezel from the front bezel.
Step 4: Separating Bezels
Run your spudger along the top edge of the front display bezel to evenly separate the two bezels. Image Description: A hand is shown running a spudger along the top edge of the iBook G3 display bezel to separate the front and rear bezels.
Step 5: Prying Left Edge
Working down from the upper left corner, use the flat end of a spudger to pry the rear bezel away from the left edge of the display. Image Description: A hand is shown using a spudger to pry the rear display bezel away from the left edge of the iBook G3 display.
Step 6: Prying Right and Bottom Edges
Use the flat end of a spudger to pry the rear bezel away from the right edge of the display. Image Description: A hand is shown using a spudger to pry the rear display bezel away from the right edge of the iBook G3 display.
If necessary, pry along the bottom edge of the rear bezel to separate it from the display assembly.
Step 7: Removing Rear Bezel
Lift the rear bezel off the display assembly. Image Description: A hand is shown lifting the rear bezel off the iBook G3 display assembly.
