The term "power tool" refers to mains-operated or battery-operated tools.

Work area safety

  1. Keep work area clean and well lit.
  2. Do not operate in explosive atmospheres (flammable liquids, gases, dust) as sparks may ignite them.
  3. Keep children and bystanders away.

Electrical safety

  1. Match power tool plugs to outlets; do not use adapter plugs with earthed tools.
  2. Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces (pipes, radiators).
  3. Do not expose tools to rain or wet conditions.
  4. Do not abuse the cord; keep it away from heat, oil, sharp edges, and moving parts.
  5. Use outdoor extension cords for outdoor use.
  6. Use GFCI protected supply in damp locations.

Personal safety

  1. Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense. Do not use when tired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  2. Use personal protective equipment: always wear eye protection. Use dust masks, safety shoes, hard hats, or hearing protection as appropriate.
  3. Prevent unintentional starting: ensure the switch is OFF before connecting to power or battery, picking up, or carrying the tool.
  4. Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the tool on.
  5. Do not overreach; maintain proper footing and balance.
  6. Dress properly: no loose clothing or jewelry. Keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts.
  7. If dust extraction facilities are provided, ensure they are connected and used properly.

Tips for maintaining maximum battery life

  1. Charge the battery cartridge before it is completely discharged. Stop operation and charge when tool power decreases.
  2. Never recharge a fully charged battery cartridge; overcharging shortens service life.
  3. Charge battery at room temperature (10°C - 40°C / 50°F - 104°F). Let hot batteries cool before charging.
  4. Charge the battery cartridge once every six months if not used for a long period.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

CAUTION: Always ensure the tool is switched OFF and the battery cartridge is removed before adjusting or checking functions.

Installing or removing battery cartridge

To remove: Slide the battery cartridge from the tool while sliding the button on the front.

To install: Align the tongue on the battery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slip it into place until it locks with a click. The red indicator on the button should not be visible when fully locked.

CAUTION: Always install the battery cartridge fully until the red indicator cannot be seen. Do not install forcibly; if it does not slide easily, it is not being inserted correctly.

Battery protection system (Lithium-ion battery with star marking)

Lithium-ion batteries with a star marking have a protection system that automatically cuts off power to the tool to extend battery life.

The tool stops automatically under these conditions:

Switch action

CAUTION: Before inserting the battery, check that the switch trigger actuates properly and returns to the "OFF" position when released.

To start the tool, pull the switch trigger. Tool speed increases with pressure on the trigger. Release the trigger to stop.

Lighting up the lamp

CAUTION: Do not look directly into the light source.

Pull the switch trigger to light up the LED lamp. The lamp stays on while the trigger is pulled and goes out when released. Use a dry cloth to clean the lamp lens, being careful not to scratch it.

Reversing switch action

This tool has a reversing switch lever to change the direction of rotation.

CAUTION: Always check the direction of rotation before operation. Use the reversing switch only after the tool comes to a complete stop. When not operating, always set the lever to the neutral position.

ASSEMBLY

CAUTION: Always ensure the tool is switched OFF and the battery cartridge is removed before any work on the tool.

Installing or removing driver bit or socket bit

Use only bits with the shown inserting portion.

For tool with shallow bit hole

For tool with deep bit hole

Procedure (1)

To install the bit: Pull the sleeve in the direction of the arrow and insert the bit as far as it will go. Then release the sleeve to secure the bit.

To remove the bit: Pull the sleeve in the direction of the arrow and pull the bit out.

NOTE: If the bit is not inserted deep enough, the sleeve may not return to its original position and the bit will not be secured. Re-insert the bit. Ensure the bit is firmly secured after insertion.

Procedure (2)

Insert the bit-piece into the sleeve with its pointed end facing in.

Hook

The hook is convenient for temporarily hanging the tool. It can be installed on either side.

To install: Insert the hook into a groove in the tool housing and secure it with a screw. To remove, loosen the screw and take it out.

OPERATION

Hold the tool firmly and place the driver bit point in the screw head. Apply forward pressure to the tool to prevent the bit from slipping, then turn the tool on to start operation.

NOTE:

The fastening torque is affected by various factors:

Fastening Torque Graphs

The relationship between fastening torque and fastening time is shown in the figures for standard bolts and high tensile bolts, with torque values for different bolt sizes (M8, M10, M12, M14).

MAINTENANCE

CAUTION: Always ensure the tool is switched OFF and the battery cartridge is removed before performing inspection or maintenance, except for troubleshooting the light.

Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, or alcohol, as they can cause discoloration, deformation, or cracks.

For product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs and maintenance should be performed by Makita Authorized Service Centers using Makita replacement parts.
