ASUS PRIME B760M-K D4 Motherboard Quick Start Guide
Motherboard Layout
The motherboard features an LGA1700 socket for the CPU, four DDR4 DIMM slots (labeled DIMM_A and DIMM_B), multiple PCIe slots (including PCIEX16 and PCIEX1), two M.2 slots (M.2_1 and M.2_2) supporting PCIe 4.0 x4, several SATA 6Gb/s ports, ATX power connectors (ATX_PWR, ATX_12V), a CPU fan header (CPU_FAN), chassis fan headers (CHA_FAN), RGB headers, front panel headers (F_PANEL), USB headers, audio connectors, LAN port, and rear I/O ports.
Step 1: Install the CPU
Align the CPU's golden triangle with the triangle on the LGA1700 socket. Gently place the CPU into the socket. Lower the retention lever to secure the CPU.
Diagram Description: Shows the CPU socket with an open retention lever, the CPU with a directional triangle, and arrows indicating insertion and lever closing.
Step 2: Install the CPU Fan
Attach the CPU cooler's mounting brackets to the motherboard. Apply thermal paste to the CPU if not pre-applied. Mount the cooler onto the CPU and connect the fan cable to the CPU_FAN header.
Diagram Description: Illustrates attaching mounting brackets, applying thermal paste, placing the heatsink, and connecting the fan cable.
Step 3: Install Memory Modules
Open the clips on the DIMM slots (DIMM_A, DIMM_B). Align the notch on the memory module with the notch in the DIMM slot. Push the module down firmly until the clips snap into place.
Diagram Description: Depicts DIMM slots with open clips, a memory module with a notch, and shows the module being inserted and the clips closing.
Step 4: Install Storage Devices
Install M.2 SSDs into the M.2 slots and secure them. Connect SATA storage devices (like HDDs or SSDs) to the SATA 6Gb/s ports using SATA cables.
Diagram Description: Highlights the M.2 slots and SATA ports on the motherboard.
Step 5: Install Expansion Card(s)
Remove the corresponding slot cover from the PC case. Align the expansion card (e.g., graphics card, network card) with the appropriate PCIe slot (PCIEX16 or PCIEX1) and press down firmly until it clicks into place. Secure the card to the case.
Diagram Description: Shows PCIe slots on the motherboard and an expansion card being inserted.
Step 6: Install the System Panel Connector
Connect the small cables from the PC case's front panel (power button, reset button, HDD LED, power LED) to the corresponding pins on the F_PANEL header on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard manual for specific pin assignments.
Diagram Description: Illustrates the F_PANEL header and the small connectors from the case being plugged into it.
Step 7: Install ATX Power Connectors
Connect the 24-pin ATX power cable from the power supply unit (PSU) to the ATX_PWR connector on the motherboard. Connect the 4+4-pin or 8-pin CPU power cable to the ATX_12V connector.
Diagram Description: Shows the ATX_PWR and ATX_12V connectors on the motherboard and the corresponding PSU cables being plugged in.
Step 8: Connect Input/Output Devices
Connect essential peripherals to the rear I/O ports. This includes connecting a monitor to the HDMI or VGA port, a keyboard and mouse to USB ports, and a network cable to the LAN port. Connect speakers to the audio jacks if needed.
Diagram Description: Displays the rear I/O panel with labeled ports (HDMI, VGA, LAN, USB, Audio) and shows connections to external devices like a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers.
Step 9: Power On and Install Operating System and Drivers
Connect the power cord to the PSU and the wall outlet. Turn on the system using the power button. Insert your operating system installation media (USB or DVD) and follow the on-screen prompts to install the OS and necessary drivers.
