This document provides a comprehensive installation guide for the Lian Li Lancool 205M PC case. It details the components, hardware installation, I/O connections, and cooling support.
Case Components
The following diagram illustrates the main components of the Lancool 205M case:
- A: IO Panel: Features Power Button, Reset Button, 2x USB 3.0 ports, Audio jacks, Microphone jack, Power LED, and HDD LED.
- B: Supports 2x 120 mm fans or a 240 mm AIO radiator. Includes a removable air filter.
- C: 120 mm PWM fan.
- D: Supports 2x 120 mm fans or 2x 140 mm fans, or a 240 mm AIO radiator. Includes a removable air filter.
- E: HDD rack designed for 2x 2.5" SSDs.
- F: Removable HDD tray supporting 2x 3.5" HDDs or a configuration of 1x 2.5" SSD and 1x 3.5" HDD.
- G: Removable air filter.
- H: PSU tray.
- I: PCI slots with ventilation.
Note: Components B and D can be swapped after fans and AIO radiators have been installed.
Hardware List
The following hardware is included:
- a: 10x Screws for motherboard and 2.5" SSD mount.
- b: 7x Screws for PSU/VGA card/HDD tray mounting.
- c: 8x Screws for 3.5" HDD mount.
- d: 5x Cable ties for cable management.
- e: 8x Screws for 2.5" SSD mount.
- f: 8x Anti-vibration rings for 2.5" SSD mount.
Note: Some quantities may be exceeded to provide spare parts.
I/O Port and Cable Connections
I/O Panel Ports
- USB 3.0: Connects to the motherboard's USB 3.0 20-pin header.
- HD AUDIO: Connects to the motherboard's HD Audio header.

USB 3.0 20-Pin Header:
- Pin 10: Blue
- Pin 8: Black/Purple
- Pin 6: Yellow
- Pin 4: Gray
- Pin 2: Red
- Pin 9: Green (Key)
- Pin 7: Orange
- Pin 5: N.C. (Not Connected)
- Pin 3: GND+H.S. TUBE
HD AUDIO Header:
- Pin 10: Green (MIC_L)
- Pin 8: Black/Purple (Ground)
- Pin 6: Yellow (PRESENCE)
- Pin 4: Gray (P/G)
- Pin 2: Red (MIC_VCC)
- Pin 9: (Key)
- Pin 7: Orange (FRONT_R)

System Indicator LED and Button Connections
- POWER SW: Connects to the motherboard's power switch pins (typically BLACK/WHITE - and BLACK +).
- RESET SW: Connects to the motherboard's reset switch pins (typically BLACK/WHITE - and BLACK +).
- POWER LED: Connects to the motherboard's power LED pins (typically BLACK/WHITE - and BLACK +).
- HDD LED: Connects to the motherboard's HDD LED pins (typically BLACK/WHITE - and BLACK +).
Panel Removal
Removing the Front Panel
Follow the indicated steps to detach the front panel from the case.
Removing the Side Panel
Follow the indicated steps to detach the side panel. ⚠️ Attention: Peel off the protective film from the glass panel before proceeding.
Component Installation
Motherboard Installation
Mount the motherboard onto the designated standoffs using the appropriate screws (refer to hardware list 'a').
PSU Installation
Install the Power Supply Unit (PSU) into the PSU tray at the bottom rear of the case (refer to diagram 'b').
2.5" SSD / 3.5" HDD Installation
For 2.5" SSDs and 3.5" HDDs:
- Use the removable HDD tray (F) for 3.5" HDDs or a mixed configuration.
- Use the HDD rack (E) for 2x 2.5" SSDs.
- The tray/rack can be secured using screws (refer to hardware list 'c' for 3.5" HDD, and 'a' or 'e' for 2.5" SSDs).
- Note: The drive bay assembly can be placed to the right side of the case.
2.5" SSD Installation (Alternative Location)
Additional mounting points are available for 2.5" SSDs, typically on the backplate of the motherboard tray. Use screws (refer to hardware list 'e') and anti-vibration rings (refer to hardware list 'f').
Air Filter Removal
The case features removable air filters for easy cleaning:
- Top Filter: Detach the top panel to access and remove the top air filter.
- Front Filter: The front panel can be removed to access the front air filter.
- Bottom Filter: The bottom of the case has a removable air filter, typically sliding out from the front or rear.
Cable Management
Utilize the provided cable management features, such as tie-down points and routing channels (indicated by 'd'), to keep internal cables organized and improve airflow.
Radiator and Cooling Support
The Lancool 205M supports various cooling configurations:
- Front Radiator/Fans: Supports 2x 120 mm fans or a 240 mm AIO radiator (Component B).
- Side/Top Radiator/Fans: Supports 2x 120 mm fans or 2x 140 mm fans, or a 240 mm AIO radiator (Component D).
- Radiator Dimensions Supported:
- 120 mm x 120 mm
- 120 mm x 240 mm
- 140 mm x 140 mm
