5. Installation

5.1 microSD Card Installation:

Use a microSD card (Class 10/U3/A2) with a capacity of 32GB to 512GB. VANTRUE recommends their own microSD cards for optimal performance. Insert the card with the gold contacts facing the same direction as the device's rear, pushing until it clicks. To remove, press the card once to eject it.

Important Note: Always format the microSD card in the dash cam before first use. If a "Card Error" appears, navigate to System > Format to format the card.

5.2 Dashcam Installation:

  • Mount Installation: Align the mount with the connection port on the main unit and push until it clicks.
  • Cigarette Lighter Power Cable Installation: Insert the cable firmly into the car's cigarette lighter socket.
  • Determining Mounting Position: Before attaching to the windshield, power on the unit and check the viewing angles of the front and interior cameras to find the optimal position.
  • Electrostatic Adhesive Sheet Installation: Clean the windshield area with water or alcohol. Apply the electrostatic sheet to the desired location. Peel off the protective film (labeled ①) from the sheet, attach it to the windshield, then peel off the second protective film (labeled ②) and attach the dash cam unit to the sheet.
  • N4 Pro Main Unit Installation: After applying the electrostatic sheet, peel the protective film from the mount and attach the main unit to the sheet.
  • Rear Camera Installation: Power on the unit and adjust the rear camera's angle for the best view before mounting. Ensure the rear camera avoids the defroster lines on the rear windshield. Clean the lens with the provided cloth after installation. The interior camera can rotate up and down by 45 degrees.

5.3 Wiring:

  • Cigarette Lighter Power Cable: Route the cable along the windshield and interior trim using the trim removal tool.
  • Rear Camera Cable: Route the rear camera cable along the rear windshield after mounting the camera.

6. App Installation and Connection

  • Normal: Standard recordings, parking surveillance, and time-lapse videos (marked with "N", "P", "T").
  • Photos: Captured still images.
  • All: Displays all recorded files.

9. Key Features

9.1 Loop Recording: Records continuously in segments, overwriting the oldest files when the card is full. This ensures continuous recording without manual intervention. The "Normal" folder typically uses up to 70% of the SD card capacity.

Important Notes for Loop Recording:

  • Regularly format the SD card (monthly) to maintain write speed.
  • Save important footage to another device promptly to prevent overwriting.
  • Disabling loop recording will disable emergency (event) recording.
  • If loop recording is off, recordings are limited to 20 minutes before stopping when the card is full.

9.2 Emergency (Event) Recording:

Automatically locks video clips when the G-sensor detects a significant impact or vibration. Manual locking is also possible by pressing the Record/Pause button. Pressing and holding the button can also capture burst photos. Locked videos are saved in the "Event" folder.

Important Notes for Emergency Recording:

  • Lowering G-sensor sensitivity may prevent automatic locking.
  • The "Event" folder is allocated 30% of the SD card capacity. Files here can also be overwritten if full.
  • Emergency recording may not function if loop recording or time-lapse is disabled.

9.3 Parking Low Light Night Vision:

Enhances image clarity during night parking surveillance by improving lens performance and low-light technology. This feature only activates when the dash cam enters parking mode.

9.4 Motion Detection Range:

Allows users to set the detection range for motion detection in parking mode for both front and rear cameras, adjustable up, down, left, and right.

9.5 Parking Surveillance Mode:

Protects your vehicle while parked. It can be activated automatically after a period of inactivity (5 minutes without impact if ACC is not linked), by turning off the engine (with a direct power cable), or manually by long-pressing the Record/Pause button.

Parking Mode Types:

  • Impact Detection: Records when a shock is detected. Sensitivity is adjustable from 1-5.
  • Motion Detection: Records when motion is detected. Includes pre-record functionality to capture 10 seconds before the event.
  • Low Bitrate Recording: Records at a lower resolution/frame rate (e.g., 1080P 15FPS or 720P 15FPS) to save space during parking.
  • Time-lapse Recording: Records at a reduced frame rate (e.g., 1FPS) to capture long periods in short clips.

Important Notes for Parking Mode:

  • Requires a separate direct power cable (VANTRUE exclusive).
  • In high temperatures (above 60°C), it is recommended to turn off the dash cam to prevent damage.
  • Time-lapse recording is incompatible with parking surveillance mode.
  • Parking recordings are saved in the "Normal" folder and may be overwritten by loop recording. Regularly check these files.
  • If parking mode is set to "Off", the dash cam will shut down with the engine.

9.6 Privacy Mode:

When enabled, it limits the number of video files stored simultaneously to prevent overwriting. Files are saved in the "Normal" folder with an "S" suffix. Requires initial SD card formatting. Recordings include an additional 10 seconds from before the trigger event.

10. GPS Functionality

The GPS mount logs driving time, distance, speed, and altitude. This data can be transferred to a smartphone via the VANTRUE app in PDF or JPG format.

10.1 GPS Auto Time Correction:

Automatically syncs the dash cam's date and time with GPS signals, using the selected time zone (Japan set to +9:00). GPS signal acquisition may take up to 1 minute in clear conditions and can be affected by obstructions.

10.2 GPS Information:

GPS data is saved with video files and can be viewed using the VANTRUE app or the VANTRUE GPS Player software.

11. Playback and Deletion

11.1 Playback and Deletion on Device:

Navigate to File > Normal/Event/All, select a video, and press the confirmation button to play. Press the down button during playback to delete the video. You can delete individual videos or all videos.

11.2 Playback and Deletion on PC:

Connect the dash cam to a PC using the USB data cable. The device will appear as a storage device. You can then play or delete files from your computer.

11.3 Playback and Deletion via App:

Connect to the dash cam via Wi-Fi and use the VANTRUE app to play, download, or delete video files. Downloading files to your smartphone does not incur data charges. Sharing videos may require your smartphone to connect to the internet separately.

12. Firmware Updates

12.1 Update via PC:

Download the latest firmware from the official VANTRUE website (www.vantrue.net). Follow the instructions on the website for the update process. Do not turn off the device during the update.

12.2 OTA (Over-The-Air) Update via App:

The N4 Pro supports OTA updates through the app. When a new firmware is available, you will receive a notification. Alternatively, go to "About App" > "OTA Update" to check and install updates. Follow the on-screen prompts. Do not disconnect the dash cam or phone during the transfer. The dash cam may restart automatically after the transfer.
