Important Notes
- For indoor use only.
- Operating temperature: 32°F to 104°F (0°C to 40°C).
- Designed for one paddle-type ceiling fan.
- Ensure the fan's pull chain is set to the highest speed before installation.
- Do not use for exhaust fans (e.g., bathroom, kitchen).
- Do not use with fans having integrated speed controls other than a pull chain, unless the integrated control is removed.
- Do not connect to other motor-operated appliances or lighting loads.
- Do not control lighting loads on a fan.
- Do not use for DC motor fans.
Installing Your Fan Control
Warning: SHOCK HAZARD. Turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse before installing to prevent serious injury or death.
Note: This guide covers single-pole installation. For 3-way switch applications, visit www.casetawireless.com/3way for detailed instructions.
Step 1: Install the Fan
Ensure the ceiling fan is installed and operating correctly per the manufacturer's instructions.
Step 2: Set the Fan Speed
Set the fan to its highest speed using the pull chains.
Step 3: Turn Power Off
Switch off power at the circuit breaker or fuse.
Step 4: Remove Existing Switch
Remove the wallplate. Pull the existing switch out from the wall. Tag the load wire. Disconnect all wires from the switch.
Step 5: Remove Side Sections (If Necessary)
For controls at the end of a gang, only the inside side sections may need removal. For controls in the middle of a gang, all side sections may need removal.
Step 6: Connect the Fan Control
Wire connections:
- Connect the ground wire (bare copper or green) from the wallbox to the green wire on the fan control using a wire connector.
- Wrap the line/hot wire around the screw terminal and tighten securely (5 in-lb / 0.55 N·m).
- Connect the neutral wire from the wallbox to the white wire on the fan control using a wire connector.
- Connect the load/tagged wire from the wallbox to the yellow wire on the fan control using a wire connector.
Step 7: Mount the Fan Control
Use the provided screws to secure the fan control in the wallbox.
Step 8: Attach the Wallplate
If using a compatible wallplate (sold separately), attach the adapter to the fan control with screws and snap the wallplate into place.
Step 9: Turn Power On
Restore power at the circuit breaker.
Using Your Caséta Wireless Kit (Sold Separately)
With a Smartphone or Tablet (Requires Smart Bridge)
Control your fan from a smartphone or tablet when used with the Lutron Smart Bridge. Follow these steps:
Download the Lutron App
Search for "Lutron Caseta" on the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Visit www.casetawireless.com/LutronApp.
Launch the Lutron App
The app will guide you through setting up your devices, including the Smart Bridge and fan control.
Complete Setup
Use the Lutron app to finish device setup and pairing.
Without a Smartphone or Tablet (Pico Remote Pairing)
Pairing the fan control and Pico remote control:
Initiate Pairing on Fan Control
Press and hold the "Off" button on the fan control for 6 seconds until LEDs blink.
Initiate Pairing on Pico Remote
Press and hold the "Off" button on the Pico remote control for 6 seconds until the fan control LEDs flash in a waterfall pattern.
Pair Additional Remotes
Repeat pairing steps for other Pico remote controls.
Changing the Favorite Setting
The "Favorite" button on the Pico remote or fan control recalls favorite speed settings. You can set different favorites for the remote and control.
Set Desired Fan Speed
Adjust the fan control to your preferred speed.
Save Favorite Setting
Press and hold the "Favorite" button on either the remote or control for 6 seconds until the in-wall fan control LEDs blink twice. The new favorite level is saved.
Using Your Controls
In-wall fan control & Pico remote control (sold separately) buttons: High, Faster, Favorite, Slower, Off.
Front Accessible Service Switch (FASS): Pull out the FASS to disconnect power for servicing. Push it back in completely to restore power.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues and Solutions
- Fan does not turn ON; no indicator lights.
- Ensure fan pull chain is set to the highest speed.
- Check if Load and Line wires are reversed; swap if necessary (see Step 6 wiring).
- Verify Neutral wire connection (see Step 6 wiring).
- Confirm the FASS is in the ON position.
- Check circuit breaker; reset if tripped or replace fuse if blown. Contact Lutron support or an electrician for persistent issues.
- Fan does not turn ON; indicator lights are ON.
- Ensure the fan direction switch is set to a position (not between settings).
- Set the fan pull chain speed to high.
- Fan speed is too slow.
- Set the fan pull chain speed to high.

Important Information
Caution: Use only with permanently installed ceiling fans. Avoid overheating and equipment damage by not controlling receptacles, motor-driven, or transformer-supplied appliances.
Codes: Installation must comply with all national and local electrical codes.
Grounding: If no grounding means are present in the wallbox, installation is permitted by NEC if using a nonmetallic faceplate with nonmetallic screws, or if the circuit is GFCI protected. Cap or remove the green wire in these cases.
