AutomationDirect BRX Analog Expansion Modules

Overview

The BRX platform offers unique expandability through its analog expansion modules, which conveniently snap onto the side of any BRX MPU. These modules instantly add analog I/O capabilities to the system with minimal setup. The analog expansion modules are available as analog input, temperature input, or analog output modules. Their front panels feature a color scheme and symbols to denote the module type.

Analog modules support various signal types including current inputs/outputs, unipolar/bipolar voltage inputs/outputs, thermocouple inputs, RTD inputs, and thermistor inputs. Input/output combination modules are also available.

Most modules ship without wiring terminals, allowing users to select their preferred termination style. Wiring options include screw terminal connectors, spring clamp terminal connectors, and pre-wired ZIPLink cable solutions.

General Specifications

All BRX analog input, output, and temperature input modules share common general specifications:

* Module Revision can be found in the last letter (last or second-to-last character) of the module serial number.

Dimensions: 3.25" [82.6mm] (Width) x 4.57" [116.2mm] (Height) x 1.08" [27.5mm] (Depth). Mounting holes: 2X Ø #8 Thru all.

Installation:

• 1. To install: Remove Connector Cover.
• 2. To remove: Depress disengagement plungers at top and bottom of module.
• Align expansion connectors, insert, and listen for "Click" as the lock engages.

⚠️ IMPORTANT! Hot-Swapping Information

Note: This device cannot be Hot Swapped.

NOTE: When removing an expansion module, make sure there is room for the module to slide away from the system. Failure to do so will result in difficulty removing the module.

Analog Input Modules

Nine analog input modules are available, supporting current or voltage inputs. These modules feature a blue terminal bar on the faceplate to distinguish them as inputs. Symbols [current input/output symbol] or [voltage input/output symbol] signify current or voltage, respectively.

Temperature Input Modules

Six temperature input modules are available, supporting thermocouple, RTD, and thermistor inputs. Thermocouple modules can also be configured for millivolt-level voltage inputs, and RTD modules for resistance input. These modules feature a blue terminal bar and a [temperature symbol] to signify temperature.

Combination Modules

Temperature/Analog Combo Module

Three combination modules are available, featuring thermocouple, RTD, or universal temperature inputs and current sourcing outputs. Thermocouple modules can also accept millivolt-level voltage inputs, and RTD modules can accept resistance input. The input/output faceplate terminal bar is blue and red, and the [temperature symbol] and [current input/output symbol] signify temperature and current, respectively.

Temperature/Discrete Combo Module

Three combination modules are available with universal temperature inputs and DC sinking, sourcing, or relay outputs. Thermocouple inputs can also accept millivolt-level voltage inputs, and RTD inputs can accept resistance input. The input/output faceplate terminal bar is blue and red, and the [temperature symbol] and [discrete signal symbol] signify temperature and discrete signals, respectively.

Analog Output Modules

Six analog output modules are available, supporting current and voltage outputs. These modules feature a red terminal bar on the faceplate to distinguish them as outputs. Symbols [current input/output symbol] or [voltage input/output symbol] signify current or voltage, respectively.

Analog Combo Input / Output Modules

Six analog input/output combo modules are available, supporting current or voltage inputs and outputs. The input/output faceplate terminal bar is blue and red, making it easy to distinguish between inputs and outputs. Symbols [current input/output symbol] and [voltage input/output symbol] signify current and voltage, respectively.

Expansion Module Support by Controller

* Remote I/O controllers do not support Motion Control and Communications Modules.

Wiring Termination Options

Terminal Block Connectors

Terminal block connectors are provided in kits, ordered by a single part number. There are two types of kits: one for five (5), eight (8), and 12-point discrete modules, and another for analog and 16-point discrete modules. The discrete module kits (5, 8, 12-point) include three 5-pin 5mm connectors, with 8-point modules using two and 5/12-point modules using all three. Analog and 16-point digital module kits include two 10-pin 3.81mm connectors.

NOTE: BX-RTB10 terminal blocks are included with Temperature Input modules.

ZIPLink Wiring System

BRX expansion modules connect quickly to convenient ZIPLink remote terminal blocks for easy wiring of I/O devices. ZIPLink selection depends on the number of expansion module terminal points. The following tables list connector options.

* Select cable length: Blank = 0.5 m, -1 = 1.0m, -2 = 2.0m. Available pigtail cables: ZL-BXEM-CBL10-1P = 1.0 m, ZL-BXEM-CBL10-2P = 2.0 m.

** The relay outputs are derated not to exceed 2A per common when used with the ZIPLink wiring system.

* Select cable length: Blank = 0.5 m, -1 = 1.0m, -2 = 2.0m. Available pigtail cables: ZL-BXEM-CBL15-1P = 1.0 m, ZL-BXEM-CBL15-2P = 2.0 m.

** The relay outputs are derated not to exceed 2A per common when used with the ZIPLink wiring system.

* Select cable length: Blank = 0.5 m, -1 = 1.0m, -2 = 2.0m. Available pigtail cables: ZL-BXEM-CBL20-1P = 1.0 m, ZL-BXEM-CBL20-2P = 2.0 m.

** The relay outputs are derated not to exceed 2A per common when used with the ZIPLink wiring system.

* Select cable length: Blank = 0.5 m, -1 = 1.0m, -2 = 2.0m. Available pigtail cables: ZL-D24-CBL40-1P = 1.0 m, ZL-D24-CBL40-2P = 2.0 m. Suffix -X indicates 45° cable connector angle. Non -X indicates 180° cable connector angle.
