Using the CD Player

Power Sources

Batteries: Insert two LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries, matching polarity ([positive terminal] , [negative terminal] ). Battery life varies by usage and G-PROTECTION setting. (Approximate battery life with two Sony alkaline batteries LR6 (SG) is 16 hours with G-PROTECTION on and 11 hours with G-PROTECTION off, measured by JEITA standards).

AC Power Adaptor: Use a compatible AC power adaptor (not supplied) connected to the [DC IN 4.5V] jack.

Playing a CD

  1. Slide [open] to open the lid, place the CD onto the pivot, and close the lid.
  2. Press [play/pause] () to play. Press [play/pause] () for 2 seconds or more while stopped to play from the first track.

This player supports CD-Rs/CD-RWs recorded in Audio CD format, but playback quality may vary. It is designed for standard CDs; some copyright-protected discs may not be playable. DualDiscs may also have compatibility issues.

Installing in a Car

Installation

Attach the CD player to the console box using the supplied Velcro tapes. Ensure tapes do not cover controls or nameplates. Remove the player when parking for extended periods in direct sunlight. Do not install in unstable locations or where it may interfere with driving or car features (e.g., glove box, ashtray).

Connection

Connect the CD player to the car cassette deck using the supplied car connecting pack. Connect the car battery cord to the cigarette lighter socket for power.

Diagram Description: Diagram A shows the CD player mounted in a car's console box using Velcro tapes. Diagram B illustrates connecting the CD player to the car's cassette deck via a car connecting pack and to the cigarette lighter socket via a car battery cord.

Operation

  1. Turn down the volume on both the car cassette deck and CD player.
  2. Set the tape selector to TYPE I and turn off DOLBY NR, REPEAT, or BLANK SKIP if equipped.
  3. Insert the car connecting pack into the car cassette deck.
  4. Start playback on the car cassette deck.
  5. Start CD playback on the Sony player.
  6. Adjust the volume.

If no sound is heard or the pack ejects, try changing the playback direction on the car cassette deck. To remove the pack, press the [eject] () button on the car cassette deck. Never insert the cord end into the cassette door. Ensure the cord does not hinder driving. Pull the plug, not the cord, to disconnect.

Precautions for Car Installation

Fuse Replacement

If the player does not operate, check the fuse in the cigarette lighter plug. Turn off the player, unplug from the socket, unscrew the plug end counterclockwise, replace the fuse with one of the same amperage and length, and reassemble. Never use wire as a substitute. If the fuse blows again, contact a Sony dealer.

Diagram Description: Shows how to unscrew the plug end to access and replace the fuse.

G-PROTECTION Function

This feature protects against sound skipping during active use. The default setting is "G-on". To select "G-off" (for higher sound quality), press [play/pause] () while holding [skip/search] () during stop. Sound may skip if the player receives strong shocks, uses dirty/scratched CDs, or uses poor-quality CD-Rs/CD-RWs.
