Note: Please read these user instructions carefully before using the equipment and retain for future consultation.
Getting Started
Belt Clip Attachment
To remove the belt clip, press the tab at the top of the clip and slide upward. To reattach, slide the clip piece down with the clip facing inward until you hear a click. ?️
Battery Installation
Press down on the back panel of the unit and slide the battery cover off (you may need to remove the belt clip for easier access). Insert 4 AAA batteries (not included) as indicated. Replace the cover. ?
Safety Precautions
- Do not use these walkie-talkies if they are damaged in any way.
- Do not use near gas pumps or fuel storage areas.
- Do not turn on or use on aircraft or in hospitals.
- Operating these devices near a radio may cause interference.
- Remove the batteries if devices will not be used for a long period of time.
- Never mix new and used batteries.
- For best results, direct the antenna upward when in use. ⬆️
- Clean with a damp cloth; do not use solvents or cleaning agents.
- Do not modify these devices in any way.
- Do not rely on these devices to contact emergency services.
Operating Instructions
On/Off Button
Press and hold the power button (right of LCD screen) for 3 seconds to power the device on or off. A beep will indicate operation. ▶️
Volume Adjustment
Press the up and down arrows (below LCD screen) to adjust volume up or down. The volume level is displayed on the screen. ?
Battery Level
Check the battery icon on the LCD screen to monitor your battery level. The icon will flash and the device will beep when the batteries need replacement or recharging. ⚡
Receive/Transmit Communication
To transmit, press and hold the TALK button while speaking into the walkie-talkie at a close range (within 5 cm of your face). Release the button to finish talking. When the button is released, your walkie-talkie can receive transmissions.
Note:
- Walkie-talkies must be set to the same channel and CTCSS code.
- Release the TALK button when finished talking to receive a response.
How to Change Channels
- Press the MENU button once; the current channel number will flash on the LCD screen.
- Press the up and down buttons to change the channel.
- Press the TALK button to confirm and return to Standby Mode.
Note: If no button is pressed, the device will return to Standby Mode.
CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System)
These walkie-talkies have an "8/20/22" channel system, allowing you to find a free channel if someone nearby is using one and you wish to avoid interference or share a channel. Your devices also feature subchannels called CTCSS. Using CTCSS transmits one of 99 different low-frequency tones (67-250 Hz) along with your voice signal for identification purposes.
Note: This feature does not impact operation or quality. To disable, select code "OF" in the menu. Press the TALK button to confirm.
Change the CTCSS Code
- Press the MENU button twice; the current CTCSS code flashes on the LCD screen.
- Press the up and down buttons to change to another code.
- Press the TALK button to confirm.
Monitor
You can use the Monitor feature to check for weaker signals on your current channel. Press the MON button to start and stop channel monitoring.
Note: The device will not transmit or receive CTCSS codes during monitoring.
VOX Selection
These devices support Voice-Activated (VOX) control, meaning the walkie-talkie will transmit any sound it picks up without pressing the TALK button. It is recommended that VOX Mode not be used in a noisy or windy environment.
Note:
- VOX Mode is overridden when you press the TALK button.
- Press the Menu button 3 times; the current VOX setting will flash on the LCD screen along with the VOX icon.
- Press the up button to set VOX sensitivity between 1 and 3. A higher number means a more sensitive microphone.
- Press the down button until "OF" is displayed to turn off VOX Mode.
- Press the TALK button to confirm and return to Standby Mode.
Scanning for an Active Radio Channel
Press the Scan button (the "Z" button), and the device will scan continuously from channel 1 to 22. Scanning will stop once an active channel is found, allowing you to listen to transmissions.
Note: Press TALK while on an active channel to enter Standby Mode.
Call Tones
A call tone alerts others that you wish to initiate communication. These walkie-talkies offer 10 call tones. To set the call tone:
- Press the MENU button 4 times; "CA" is displayed, and the current tone flashes on the LCD screen.
- Press the up or down button to change the call tone.
- Press the TALK button to confirm.
Sending a Call Tone

Button-Tone On/Off
Your device beeps each time a button is pressed. To enable or disable this beep:
- Press the MENU button 5 times until "to" is displayed on the LCD screen.
- Press the up button to enable ("ON") or the down button to disable ("OF").
- Press the TALK button to confirm and return to Standby Mode.
'Roger' Beep On/Off
Your walkie-talkie beeps each time the TALK button is released to confirm you have finished speaking. To enable or disable this beep:
- Press the MENU button 6 times until "ro" is displayed on the LCD screen.
- Press the up button to enable ("ON") or the down button to disable ("OF").
- Press the TALK button to confirm and return to Standby Mode.
Button Lock
Press and hold the MENU button for 2 seconds to activate and deactivate Button Lock Mode. This locks all buttons except the PTT (TALK), CALL, and MON buttons. The Button Lock icon will appear on the LCD screen.
Note: Buttons will still produce sound (if button tone is ON) but will not function.
Display Back-light
Pressing any button activates the LCD back-light for 5 seconds. ?
Earpiece Connection
You can use earbuds with a 2.5 mm jack with this device. However, Playzoom Walkie-Talkies are not warranted for use with off-brand equipment.
Battery-Saver Mode
Battery-Saver Mode activates after the device has been idle for 6 seconds. This does not limit operation; any incoming transmission or button use will reactivate the device.
Built-In Flashlight
Press the LAMP button (left of LCD screen) to activate your flashlight. ?
