The helmet features several buttons and ports:
- 1. (+) Button: Used for volume up and other functions.
- 2. (-) Button: Used for volume down and other functions.
- 3. Taillight: Integrated LED taillight for visibility.
- 4. Charging LED: Indicates charging status.
- 5. USB-C Port: For connecting the charging cable.
- 6. Reset Pin Hole: For resetting the device.
- 7. Status LED: Indicates device status.

Basic Operation
Button Actions
- Tap: Press the button as indicated.
- Press and Hold: Press and hold the button as indicated.
- Voice Prompt: Audio feedback for operations.
- LED: Visual indicator lights.
Charging
Connect the USB-C cable to charge the device. The LED indicates charging status (Red for charging, Blue for fully charged).
It takes 2.5 hours for the device to fully charge.
- The S1 automatically powers off during charging for safety.
- Any USB charger from another provider can be used if it has FCC, CE, or IC approval or other regionally recognized approval from a regulatory authority.
- Using an unapproved charger may lead to fire, explosion, and leakage of gases or liquids. Other hazards may reduce battery life or performance.
Powering On/Off
- Power On: Press and hold the M and (+) buttons for 1 second.
- Power Off: Press and hold the M and (+) buttons.
Volume Control
Press the (+) or (-) button once to adjust volume.
Taillight On/Off
Press the L button once to turn the taillight on or off. The taillight can be customized in the Sena Cycling app. The brake light activates automatically when braking is detected.
Mesh Intercom
The S1 offers two Mesh Intercom modes:
- Open Mesh™: For open group communication via intercom.
- Group Mesh™: For private group communication via intercom.

Switching Mesh Versions
Mesh 3.0 is the latest technology. To communicate with older products using Mesh 2.0, switch to Mesh 2.0 via the Sena Cycling app.
Mesh Intercom On/Off
- On: Press and hold M and (+) buttons once. Voice prompt: "Mesh Intercom on, Open Mesh, Channel 1".
- Off: Press and hold M and (+) buttons once. Voice prompt: "Mesh Intercom off".
Microphone Mute On/Off
Press and hold the Multifunction button (M) for 1 second to mute or unmute the microphone during Mesh Intercom communication.
- Mute: "Microphone off"
- Unmute: "Microphone on"
Channel Selection
- Access Channel Settings by pressing the M button twice.
- Navigate between channels by pressing the M button once or twice.
- Confirm and save the channel by pressing the M button once. Voice prompt: "Channel set, Channel #".
The channel is automatically saved after 10 seconds of inactivity or when the S1 is turned off.
Creating a Group Mesh
Up to 24 participants can join a private conversation group using Group Mesh.
- Users (You, A, and B) join the group mesh by pressing and holding the Multifunction button for 5 seconds while in Open Mesh. They do not need to be on the same Open Mesh channel to create a Group Mesh. Voice prompt: "Mesh grouping".
- After the mesh grouping is complete, it automatically switches from Open Mesh to Group Mesh. Voice prompt: "Group Mesh".
To cancel mesh grouping, press the Multifunction button once.
If mesh grouping is not successful within 30 seconds, you will hear the voice prompt "Grouping failed".
Joining an Existing Group Mesh
While in a Group Mesh, you can invite other users from an Open Mesh to join the group.
Users C and D are in Open Mesh, while you, A, and B are in a Group Mesh.
- You and other users (C and D) join the mesh grouping by pressing and holding the Multifunction button for 5 seconds. Voice prompt: "Mesh grouping".
- When mesh grouping is complete, other users C and D automatically join the Group Mesh, while the Open Mesh remains active. Voice prompt: "Group Mesh".
If mesh grouping is not successful within 30 seconds, the current user will hear two low beeps, and the new users (C and D) will hear the voice prompt "Grouping failed".
Switching Between Open Mesh and Group Mesh
You can switch between Open Mesh and Group Mesh without resetting the mesh.
Press and hold the Multifunction button for 3 seconds.
- To switch to Open Mesh: "Open Mesh"
- To switch to Group Mesh: "Group Mesh"
If you have never joined a Group Mesh, you cannot switch between Open Mesh and Group Mesh. You will hear the voice prompt "No group available".
Resetting Mesh
When the S1 resets the mesh, whether in Open Mesh or Group Mesh, it automatically returns to Open Mesh, Channel 1.
Press and hold the Multifunction button for 8 seconds. Voice prompt: "Mesh reset".
Using with a Smartphone
Phone Pairing
- When you turn on the S1 for the first time or restart it after a factory reset, it automatically enters "Phone Pairing" mode.
- Press any button to exit smartphone pairing. Voice prompt: "Phone pairing".

Making and Receiving Calls
- Answer Call: Press the M button once.
- End Call: Press and hold the M button for 2 seconds.
- Reject Call: Press and hold the M button for 2 seconds.
- Activate Voice Assistant: Press and hold the M button for 3 seconds.
Speed Dial
Assigning Speed Dial Presets
Speed dial presets are configured using the Sena Cycling app.
Using Speed Dial Numbers
- Access the speed dial menu by pressing the M button for 3 seconds.
- Navigate forward or backward through the speed dial presets by pressing the M button once. Options include:
- ① Redial
- ② Speed Dial (1→2→3)
- ③ Cancel
- Confirm by tapping the Multifunction button once. Voice prompt: "Speed dial (#)".
Music
Play/Pause Music
Press and hold the M button for 1 second.
Fast Forward/Rewind
Press and hold the M button for 1 second (or use the alternative method shown in the diagram).
Firmware Update
You can update the firmware Over-the-Air (OTA) directly through the settings in the Sena Cycling app.
Troubleshooting
Resetting
Simply use the corresponding function to reset the S1 to factory settings.
Press and hold the M button for 10 seconds. Voice prompt: "Headset reset, goodbye".
Resetting for Malfunctions
If the S1 is on but unresponsive, you can reset it to factory settings to restore normal functionality. Insert a paperclip into the reset pinhole located under the USB-C port for the charging cable. All settings remain unchanged.
